11/08/06 TIME ATTACK Buttonwillow Raceway
I don't know if anyone in hear had a chance to make it up to Buttonwillow yesterday for the West Coast finals of the Super Street timeattack but it was pretty awesome! I went up there to grab photos for www.CARSTER.com and somehow took 400+ photos with out taking photos of all the cars... Sorry if I missed the cars you were looking for.

To see more of the photos I took, check out: http://www.carster.com/blogs/news/10536

And if there is any specific car you want to see more of... just let me know

id like to see where cobb, element, and dynocomp placed.
Dr_Holmes 11-09-2006 06:11 PM

nice pictures! I love the red hot rotors with the flame at the same time.
thechoochman28 11-09-2006 06:24 PM

Anyone know who was the top 3 in each class?
WgnWheel 11-09-2006 07:56 PM

Man, i wish i could've made it. My friend Brady was running his Full-Race 240sx. I heard he ran a few tenths faster than dyno-comps car! My buddy Jason was also there, running the Ksport rhd integra. I didn't hear all the results yet, but heard the competition was insane(high-powered, high dollar cars).
spazegun2213 11-09-2006 08:12 PM

WOW I LOVE that first picture! glowing rotors on an sti, now that would take some braking!

Just looked through the rest of the pics. All great.

Holy crap there was some serious machinery there! Looks like this Time Attack thing is really taking off.

You wouldn't happen to know who was driving the Element Tuning car (Silver with green graphics)?

Tim, the first picture you quotes is of the dynocomp sti, which is still a work of art!

Also I'm 90% phil was driving his car. He has in just about every other event so i suspect he did in this one.

I was talking about the zerosports car in the second pic.

At Summit Phil mentioned trying to get someone to drive the car for this Time Attack (*cough* Gary *cough*). I was just wondering if he did or not.

Actually Phil did not drive the car. A professional race car driver by the name of Matt Alhadeff drove the car.

I don't have any direct answers to how the car placed but know they were working on getting the car to stick as best as possible. The night before the race they strapped on some new rubber on and had to do some work on the fenders to make room... ;) 275s' I think they were also having the same problem as every other race team... their brakes were about toast after 5 laps...

Sounds like pretty everyone was boiling the brake fluids or destroying brake pads very quick.
mav1c 11-10-2006 09:54 AM

Well there ya go. Thanks for the info. :)
Devan M 11-10-2006 10:09 AM

The fastest car at the event was a GT3 that ran a 1:49 while most of the Subarus ran a 1:58 to 2:05 lap time. Subaru had a great showing at the event with many cars from around the states / world.
ibis 11-10-2006 10:26 AM

Saludos,
This was my first Time Attacks Finals and my first time @ buttonwillow "I'm the driver of EDO's STI". I want to congratulate all competitors because of the profesional atmosphiere in the track. There were a lot of good subies from good companies at the track. I got the chance to talk to Phil for a while, nice car!, also I met some of Cobb's car staff, very nice people!. In general all subaru's look great and did well.

From what I can recall the times were something like this for the Subies!
Zerosports JP 1.51:05
Crawford Performance WB STI 1.55:4x
EDO's Performance STI 1.56:43
Dyno Comp STI 1.57:5x
Cobb Tunning STI 1.58:xx
Element Tunning STI 1.59:xx

They were other two STI's, one white one with charge speed body but I don't recall there time and one black from a nice guy from LA.

From what I could see next year would be a good year for subie's, lots of good new teams that will keep developing there cars for this kinds of events.

Here's some pics of our car in action, hope you like them!

That's the transponder. With that they clock the lap times of the car.

Ahhh...OK. Just never saw it mounted up front in the open like that.
rc1320 11-10-2006 01:12 PM

Miguel, were these from the track photographer? I would have loved to be on the insides of these corners rather than a couple hundred feet off the side taking shots!

Also, I want to see more pics of your white STI!

alcrudojr #00 11-10-2006 01:25 PM

Yes, I bought a CD from a photographer from the track. I sure get you more pics of my car once I get back and do some adjustments for teh PR TT finals.
triguy 11-10-2006 01:34 PM

Miguel:

Congrats on the great track time. Looking at the size of your scoop are you running with a top mount intercooler?

What do you attribute the 4 second time gap between the Zerosports STI and the rest of the top STIs? Thats a big time gap at Buttonwillow. I think the Zerosports has a 2-liter engine, wide body kit, and some nice suspension bits include the ball-joint lowering kit.
ibis 11-10-2006 01:34 PM
.... also I met some of Cobb's car staff, very nice people!.
Good to hear...I was hoping the crew would behave themselves :D

Congrats to all the teams. Next year is going to be awesome! Who is going to make it out to the next GT Live event that is supposed to be at the Miller Motorsports Park?
STi-MAN 11-10-2006 01:48 PM

how did the evos do compared to the subies?
triguy 11-10-2006 02:47 PM

The Works EVO came in second in the limited class.

I just visited Crawford's shop and saw a print out of the results. The Crawford STI came in first in the limited class. The Zerosports STI, which had a faster track time than Crawford, was running in the unlimited class, which means a gutted interior and slicks.

Well one of the biggest diference on track time is weight, all this subies were close on power range from 400whp to 500whp but the big diference I beleive is most of it due to weight. For example the zerosports jp car weights around 2650lbs ours is 3250lbs. Also dont forget that this zerosports team have been developing this car for about 4 to 5 years, aerodynamics, suspension and brakes also a big factor is someone called Tarzan Yamada, his very professional and knows exactly what the car need to be fast, handling wise.
All this other cars (Cobb, Dyno comp, Element tunning, Edo's, etc.)are mostly the same weight +-150lbs. Crawford's I dont know since I couldn't the car on details. They all have diferent combinations on wheels/tires package wich from previous expirience the top limited cars vs unlimited cars there's not that much diference in grip. For example I choose 245's hankooks and I saw guys in limited running 315's NT-01. Also I looked on previous events and guys on limited were running same times on dot "racing tires" vs. there new "street tires option" Nitto's NT-01, Toyo's Ra-1. Remember that all depends on your suspencion setting to get the most out of a tire. Also I know for sure that there's a couple of new cars such as element tunning, Edo performance and Cobb's car that are basically new cars and the only way to develop a car is track events sor for next year I know they will be a lot faster!
At least for my teams car we still have lots to develop. Suspencion - we are still using street cusco coilovers, weight - we will try going on a diet!!!, Brakes - we are still using stocks with PF rotors and power wise we still on stock engine "only cosworth pistons" and bolt on turbo/ TMIC etc.

We are very positive and energetic for next years events!
jrerin 11-10-2006 07:13 PM

At Mid Ohio with me in the car we weighed in at 3388 after a run group. Time attack was a blast. I have never been to an event with so many Subaru's!!!!! Now if I can go on a diet and the car can loose some weight we can shave some more time off.:) Hope to see you all at the track.

kellygnsd 11-10-2006 07:26 PM

The Porsche GT3 is pretty much a full blown club level race car that you can drive on the street right out of the box. You can get the optional racing seats and harness, install a cage and go straight to racing in the GT3 cup. It also handles pretty good from what I've heard(and seen)

No, that car was just completed(also on the cover of the latest Modified Magazine), his 240 is a fairly basic sr20 swap, bigger turbo, running just under 300whp. His driving skill takes care of the rest.

Russ nice driving man you're one hell of a driver...at around 2:37 of your video you do an amazing job missing I think a inner fender from a car that went off while passing an M3 (I think that was the car) on the outside. AT 4:30 I think you then hit it on the next lap while on an evo's ass...lol Great vid

it IS a race car. Literally you buy it from the factory with a cage, motec and all that good stuff. They are called Gt3 cup cars, ~400 hp flywheel, and nice suspension all around. These days they are values from 80-120K, new they are well into the 200's.

While they were down on power to a lot of the cars out there I'm sure the tunesd sports car chassis, and all that engineering helped it. Still though it beat the subarus by 5+ seconds... i think that says something.

Yeah ahhhhh the rich mans race car...buy them from the Porsche factory as is ready to race...pay a team to do maintence, haul the cars, store, & fix them... The owners show up race day jump in and drive...well the majority...they have the money to pay to play. They all come one color white not sure what specific white. you pay to paint or put decals on or get sponsor to put their decals on.

Saw them race at Mid-O. Very competitive, but some are slow...hey they paid to be slow and look like an ass but they are still driving a GT3 Porsche.

I wonder how much the owners pay the teams to maintain, store, & haul their cars?????

wow thats cold. when it comes to race cars there is no "rich man" when you think about it 80-120K for one of the best off the shelf race cars is a steal! all the development and suspension is worth the price I think of what Zersports has spent on their sti? i bet a gt3 would be cheaper at this point in time. Also, while it may seem expensive to maintain, I know the engine can go at least 150 hours at 95+%. Thats AMAZING (although for the cost of a rebuild it better be:lol: )

Yes, they all come in that white.

Trust me these cars are FAST! but there is a "slow" car in every group. It's also true that a lot of fairly wealthy people own/race these cars. But when you are racing in a series in a gt3 you can get sponsors :D

Either way, if i had the keys to both a cup car and the zerosports sti, i would chose the porsche.
STi-MAN 11-11-2006 12:24 PM

I dont kno what your talking about there are poor men's race cars and rich peoples race cars, just go to your local track event and see all the civics, sti, and evos out there.
