Rally de France!! (corsica) - talk about it here!
so? who's gonna win it?

i dont think anyone is gonna catch him....

Cheering for Petter
Come on Petter, I can't take a cubs loss and Petter going off in the same week. :(

Jeff
AndyRoo 10-17-2003 02:31 PM

im thinking markko might be able to catch up...
AndyRoo 10-17-2003 02:33 PM

also, looks like a lot of rain tomorrow so...GO PETTER GO!!!
C-daleRidr 10-17-2003 03:07 PM

Nice thread title, Jamie. The cyclist in me is proud.

Edit: I know Jamie didn't name it that, but I still like it.
nKoan 10-17-2003 03:13 PM

I think Francios Duval might be the man to watch this rally. Malcolm Wilson tipped Corsica as being Duvals first win in the new Focus (first win ever IIRC). Duval is currently in Second behind Loeb, so its definitely possible.

Well, I'm just happy that Petter can pick up some points here.
X1_SRT 10-17-2003 04:30 PM

Well i am very happy to see Petter back in it, after that go around during shakedown. having the B-Sox robbed (again!!!!!!) and petter out all in one week would have killed me! But as far as winning i think ford star Marko Martin has a shot. but hes got some serious competition to beat.

Loeb top 3
Gronholm will dnf in some sort of way
King Carlos could pull it off
Burns top 5
Petter top 5
i think i will say if martin keeps up his pace, he'll take it
duval top 5
T Mak will make it back into the top 10 after his jump start penalty
McCrash top 10
good rally! good mix of top, and young drivers doing well.

p.s. THE YANKEES SUCK!!!
Jfrankon 10-17-2003 07:20 PM

I'm thinking Martin....but if it rains on day 2, then look for Subaru to move up quick.

One question: do I constantly go to WRC.com for updates this weekend or hold out till Sunday to be surprised by SPEEDTV's coverage? What do you guys do?

PS- If the Yankees suck, then why are they playing on Saturday, while the B-sox will be watching re-runs of Cheers?

 ;)

Go Yanks! Beat the fish..

I'm there listening to WRR and the Live Event Dashboard every night. I also read the news articles for the stages that I missed while sleeping.

Then to top it all off, I watch the Speed coverage on Sunday :)

P.S. Yankees suck!
Kostamojen 10-18-2003 02:46 AM

Yankees will loose. Its the curse of the Giambi. This post season is full of curses as we know, its just the newest one. (How do I know? I cursed them myself! MUAHAHAHAHAHA)

Anyway, the Fish are this years Angels/Diamondbacks. Their great clutch play and style of play is unstopable right now. Ive said from the start of the post season to everyone I know personally the fish will win it all, they just have that aura about them.
X1_SRT 10-18-2003 09:21 AM

DO NOT read if you are waiting to watch SpeedTV
Well when i went to bed, Petter was sitting in 8th, and i have to say i was a little depressed (again, the whole Red Sox and Solberg crash thing), but when i got up and checked wrc.com, i9 first noticed that Martin was all the way back to 13th! how did that happen, he wona stage and finished 2nd in another. but then i noticed that some other people were FLYING!!! and one happens to be Subaru's very own Petter Solberg!!! hes in third!! and as long as none of the grp. n cars set a better time, in line for SS10 stage win! a full 13 secs. ahead of Martin! wooohoooo
T mak is up to 9
Gronholm down to 5th
1.Duval (wow)
2.King Carlos (hes still got it)
3.Solberg (uh huh)
thats the top 3 going into ss11, which... yeah has just started.
off to watch the live event dashboard!!

-PJ

p.s. just found out what happened to Martin. he smashed a wheel on stage 2 this morning. and lost over 5 mins in the process of fixing it.

Petter is on the WRC radio right now.

EVERYBODY PRAY FOR RAIN!!!!!!!!!
That's what Petter needs, from what he said.
HomerJay 10-18-2003 01:06 PM

WOW! There's a good chance Subaru will have the #1 & #2 drivers from 2003 on their team! Can you say manufacturers championship!
nKoan 10-18-2003 01:16 PM

Wow. Even more amazing then Petter is that Tommi set really good stage times (behind Petter, even getting a 2nd) and moving up 2 slots by the end of the day.

Tommi was back on form, if only for a few stages.
X1_SRT 10-18-2003 01:31 PM

well it seems that the Subarus do exceptional well on wet tarmac. the pirellis have a great record on the wet. rally radio said that if petter wins this one, it will be the first time in 5 years that a co. other than michelin won a tarmac event. wow! can't wait for tomorrow!

-PJ
AndyRoo 10-18-2003 04:25 PM

kick some ass petter!!!

edit: and Tommit!!!

Sainz could take over the championship lead by the end of the rally, not bad for a guy that everyone's been expecting to be forced into retirment for the last two years.

Hmm...isn't Monte Carlo primarily a tarmac event in which Tommi won in 2002? Although it could be labeled as a ice, bits of rock, and some snow rally. Its still mainly tarmac. Anyways, Pirelli still has a lot of improvement to do when it comes to dry tarmac. But dry tarmac is boring, lets hope for rain!

PETTER WINS!

How does someone get WRC radio? Is the event broadcast live?

~Anthony.
shrieden 10-19-2003 10:03 AM

The event is broadcast live, and you can get WRC radio from the website www.wrc.com

Oh, and Tommi's last win, the Monte, in his first event for Subaru was most definatley on Pirellis
X1_SRT 10-19-2003 10:38 AM

"Petter comes across as a carefree, happy-go-lucky soul but he was really shaken by his crash and has been pretty much living on adrenaline - and caffeine - since. "I've been so nervous," he admitted. "I haven't slept for two days, just been drinking a lot of coffee to keep awake."" -wrc.com

haha, i love it!!

WOOHOO!!!!

The championship is going to be very interesting.

Remember who won Rally GB last year? :)

Now on to Catalunya.
HomerJay 10-19-2003 11:21 AM

Congrats out to Petter!

I wish Pirelli would give him a better tyre for the tarmac. I think the driver is more than capable, or pray for some rain at the next rally.
Smelli Bugatti 10-19-2003 11:23 AM

I am shocked... gave the soobs and pirellis no chance to do well here.
LimeyWRX 10-19-2003 01:27 PM

Congrats for Petter, third win this season, can't wait to see the speed coverage tonight. Must congrat McRae (5th) as well for a great charge with Gronholm (4th), atleast he is still motivated for someone still with out a ride next year.
nKoan 10-19-2003 01:45 PM

The Inmarsat Star of the Rally award was presented to the Subaru Technicians. And well deserved at that!

For their award, they got two magnums of champagne (one more then usual :D) and $5,000 to donate to the charity of their choice. They chose an education fund for the children of Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman.

Did you hear Petter and Phil in the car after the finish line after the last stage? He's so happy and I'm so happy for him. And he thanked his mechanics so many times. Only one word for it. Fantastic.
grimlock 10-19-2003 11:02 PM

Yeah, Markko braked a bit late for a tight right-hander and rolled a few times down the hill through trees. They were both ok.

Did you also hear when the reporter asked Petter what tires he was going with?

"Pirellis."

Did I mention I love that guy?
Brad Pittiful 10-19-2003 11:04 PM

Observations after watching the broadcast.

1. Penny has teh HORRIBLE teef
2. Were they joking when Luis went over to Citroen to advise Carlos on tire choice?
3. Man, I know Corsica is politically upheaved state, but there were a lot of lead on the traffic signs.
4. Pirelli's rule
5. Petter musta ate his wheaties
6. No VS??(comparos)
7. Not that I care anymore, but where did the WRC.com forums go?
8. Markko is lucky
9. Burns whining about pacenotes? Whats next?
10. I didnt remember Cosica being that rough.
11. Kinda lame coverage without Mitsu and Hyundai out there mixing it up.
12. I would ride shotgun with Carlos in a Nuclear Holocaust and still feel safe.
nKoan 10-20-2003 12:12 AM

1. Yes
2. Probably :D
3-5. Hehe, yeah
6. Yeah, that sucked.
7. I was bummed that I didn't get a chance to read thousands of posts why Markko Martin was going to win.
8. Yeah
9. Co-driver's fault. The last resort is always to blame on the co-driver
10-11. Hehe, yeah
12. Hell yeah. Carlos is easily one of the bestest rally drivers evAr (if not the bestest evAr outright).
