Which A-piller pod to get?
Hey guys,
About to order my EGT and A/F gauges (2 1/16) and I am wondering which pod to get. A while back I remember hearing about the lotek pod had some problems, are they still a prob?
Which pod would you recommend, I would rather one that either completely replaced or covers up the stock piller. Doesn't really matter if it has to be painted or not, just prefer it to be.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

PLEASE get the Autometer one. I tried to install the Lotek one for someone yesterday and it's going to take some serious dremmeling. Its fittament isn't nearly as good as my Autometer one which covers the stock a-pillar. But the Lotek one is pre-painted

I didn't know autometer has one, do you have a part number by chance or know where to look for one, also I am getting autometer gauges:). Thanks

Has anyone tried the autometer instrument cluster bezel pod?

get the lotek pod!
heres the problem it had: for some odd reason, the viewing angle of the gauges is abit off (ie they're not looking directly at the driver, they're faceing a little towards the left of the driver) now to me this is only an aesthetic problem (which you can't even notice unless you're sitting in the drivers seat) because it doesn't impair your vision of the gauges at all.
"serious dremmeling"???? all you have to do is take a 1/8 drill and drill 2 small holes into the a pillar so the pod will stay in place. no problem IMO
also, the lotek one costs a lil less compared to the autometer's.
now since you're getting only 2 gauges, you should probly keep in mind thatthe lotek pod is for 3 gauges, so you'll have an empty pod, wheras you can get the autometer in 2 or 3.

Get the autometer. The lotek one sucks IMO. I had one for my 2 1/16 greddy gauge and it didnt fit. It also didnt look right. It was facing too much to the left. Someone driving on the left of you can see what your gauges are reading. :p My autometer one fits great and it doesn't look bad considering it's black. I kept mine black and you really don't know/care unless you're really anal. :o I'll try and get some pix of it soon.

Well, I geuss I should mark out the instrument cluster. I mounted my boost gauge on the column and it would cover up the right gauge. I don't like having a hole with no gauge, I could put the boost guage in the extra hole, but I would have to buy a new column cover because I put the screw in it. Does the autometer one completely cover the stock one or is it a add on where some of the stock piece is still visible? I wonder if I got one of the 3 guage pods how much that column piece would be.
| Mr.WRX2002 | 08-23-2002 07:28 PM |
The autometer pod does cover the whole panel. I got mine for about 49 or so (2 guage) at summit. The 3 pod was 54 i think. I painted mine today it looks nice.

Does anyone have a autometer EGT gauge? I see a "pyrometer" gauge and then a EGT gauge, the pyrometer comes with a probe and the EGT doesn't, also Summit's website says they no longer carry the EGT gauge???? ALso, anyone have pics of the Autometer pod?
Thanks

hey, if you're thinking everyones against the lotek pod, think again - i've had mine in for several months and i like the looks of it more every time i see it. i think the best part about it for me was how it came painted ;) ( im too lazy to paint it myself :D )

Buy the pyrometer, it has the probe with the gauge and the EGT you have to pay more for a probe. I am running a sport comp setup with the green lens covers nicely fit into my LOTEK pods and I like. yes another A$$hole cough I mean opinion. :D

Is the LOTEK pillar pod for the WRX wagon available yet? Does the Auto Meter pod fit the wagon? I want to mount a boost guage, coolant temp and maybe an air/fuel or pyrometer on the pillar. Has anyone mounted a temp sensor on the coolant line from the turbo to the radiator? I'd like to see the temp of the coolant as it's cooling down at idle.

I don't know if all of them are like this, but the Lotek one I helped with didn't fit at all. It hit the windshield which left about an inch gap from where it should've sat. You also have to drill into your car rather that the stock a-pillar which is scary for me.

lotek pod
well, i just got a lotek a-pillar dual guage pod. it was on backorder for a bit as they were remolding it im told. guess they fixed all the problems you guys were having in the past, because mine fits nearly perfect and the angle is correct too. the reason i say it fits nearly perfect is because you will never have an aftermarket product that will fit like factory. ive done lots of interior mods on many cars, and nothing aftermarket is perfect. but the lotek pod i got comes damn close. the only problem with mine is that it cause 3 'wrinkles' in the weatherstripping. and the screws that lotek supplied me with were not long enough (go figure). so i just went to homedepot and bought the correct screws. ill take pics tonight.

my questions:
1. how did you route the wiring and tubing if you just covered the stock a-pillar with the Autometer 3 gauge pod?
2. if you did not remove the existing a-pillar to modify it to pass through the wiring and tubing, how did you mount the autometer pod and pass through all the wiring and tubing?
i have the autometer 3 gauge pod and i am going to install it as soon as i have an idea of how... pics would also be a great help :)
thanx,
justin

Pod Sizing?
I'm looking at the autometer a-pillar pod and at my VDO Boost gauge. My gauge seems like it's a lot longer than the pod allows to fit! Is it only made for autometer gauges, or shorter gauges? Mine will easily extend 3 inches if you include the prongs for the light and the nozzle I connect my tube to (with connection hardware)... can I be sure that this will fit in there (yes it is 52mm) or should I sell it and do all autometer to be safe?

Can it be mod to fit wagon?
I ahve my Defi gauge flush mount with the cup they supplied...
Look okay at first now I feel like I need a pod for it
Lotek has the pillar pod at their website but I don't think they actually have it made
Can the autometer one be modified to fit wagon?
Anyone got a pic?
And what need to be done?
Thanks!!!

Autometer WRX pods
Here's the part numbers for the Autometer pods:
22592 2-1/16" DUAL GAUGE full pillar cover ($49.95 @ Summit)
22593 2-1/16" TRIPLE GAUGE full pillar cover ($52.95 @ Summit)
20015 2-1/16" DUAL GAUGE instrument cluster bezel (Not Available)
I'm pretty excited about the instrument cluster bezel, so I email Autometer to find out when it's available, here's there reply:
The best ETA we have at this time on the WRX instrument cluster bezel is early 2003.
So I guess that's not out anytime soon. Perhaps I'll get a dual pillar pod for now, and then get the ICB in Jan / Feb when it comes out.
Does anyone have paint recommendations for the Autometer pillar pods? A specific brand and color would be wonderful info!

so are people cutting the stock a-pillar to route the hoses and wiring down under the dash??
i have already painted the autometer 3 gauge a-pillar pod. i used duplicolor "dove grey" and is almost an exact match, you cant tell looking when installed.
please help me, i am going to try and work on this this weekend.

I installed my 2 gauge Autometer a-pillar pod last night. I cut my a-pillar, but then again it was pretty scratched up from a previous blunder so I didn't care.
You can probably get away w/o cutting it, but you'll need some double sided tape and it might be hard to easily route hoses/wires out the bottom w/o pinching them.
I figure the worst case scenario w/ cutting is having to replace the stock a-pillar trim, which I'm sure Subaru charges $80 for... but it's only money, right.... I've spent way too much as it is, what's another 80 bucks. ;)

I painted mine myself... takes a few minutes...
I was recommended to use "SEM Light Gray #15183". I got mine from a local paint store. It's a pretty close match... the stock gray is just a tinge purpler, but since the pillar is not directly next to anthing else that's the stock color, you simply can't tell.
Follow the instructions regarding many light coats. The paint's really high quality... so good it looks like the plastic is actually that color, and not painted! I put 3 coats on... it could probably use another one or two. 5 light coats would look pro.
Pics tonight! :)

thanx sperry,
i cant wait to see your pics. i painted mine with duplicolor automotive paint "dove grey." about 4-5 coats with 2 coats of clear coat.
looks pretty close, like sperry said you cant tell because there is nothing around that color besides the passenger side a-pillar across the car.
i will also be taking many pics of my planned install on saturday. i have the 3 gauge Autometer a-pillar with Autometer 2-1/16" Ultralight Carbon Fiber gauges. boost/vac, oil temp., and oil pressure.
i got my stainless steal braided hose from ISrperformance for the main line for the oil pressure sender and oil temp.
good luck, cant wait to see the pics, and i will post mine as well after the install.

Hehe, gotta put the stockers somewhere!
The other wall has my snowtires (san rims) hanging up. I need to go get the snows put on the stock rims... and I'll prolly just toss the RE-92s... they suck, and their almost worn out (using them for autocrosses occationally... they're awesome for sliding around... which is *why* they suck.)
I was looking at SubiGal's pods, and I don't think it'd fit under the lower gauge in the autometer pod w/o some modification. I think she sells a right hand side pod tho... so you could put a pod out there, as long as you don't need to look at it a lot.

I guess I'll just have to live with 6  .. not that I need that many in the first place.. After boost, oil pres, feul pres, oil temp, water temp, and EGT there is just the tach left that I could use anyway! Unless I went with another brand, then it would just look bad :( I could monitor things that have no business being monitored, like IC waterspray pressure.. hehe.

It's easiest if you take off the stock A-Pillar, cut it (if you want, not toally necessary, but makes a cleaner end result IMO), and install the new pillar over the stock. The Autometer pillar instructions explain it well enough.
I'm under the impression that with some creative use of double-stick tape, you can get away w/o cutting anything, but I think it's easier, stronger, and cleaner if you just go ahead and cut the stock pillar. Remember, measure twice cut once... I measured zero times and had to cut twice.... oops!

Sperry,
The Autometer replaces the entire pillar right? So you pull off the factory plastic one and install the Autometer? Was it a tight fit to get the hose for the boost gauge routed?
Thanks

Oops, I just read your post above. The guy at Summit told me it replaces the factory pillar.
I don't want to install this over the factory and have to cut.

General directions for most parts in the cabin of the impreza. lol
Anyone know a way better than that to get the inside door panel off? Is there a trick to it so I'm not breaking bits just to run a few wires and a harness?

The Autometer pod fits perfectly. Grey primer from Home Depot is also a good color match. We have the pods in stock. $59.99

Hey Jason, does it totally replace the stock pillar or does it fit over the stock plastic one?

It fits over the stock one. Take your time and it'll fit perfectly.

Do I have to cut the stock one?
Does the Autometer cover the entire pillar?
