Burn-Up body kit now available at Taka Kaira
Look HERE :D Very cool kit, although mighty spendy (as is everything on Taka Kaira)
NeoGeo 09-15-2003 11:27 PM

Dammit! And I thought I'll keep that as a secret....

Burn-up kits are so popular in Japan Japanparts gave me a two month waiting period, not to mention 500 bucks to ship it over. TK's price is "cheap" compared to Japanparts. But then TK isn't very trustworthy according to some ppl on this board.

Burn-up's WRC replica is the best though, hands down. Makes Subaru Giken's kit look like Wings West

That front bumper is a one piece design that extends into the engine bay serving as a radiator cover

edit: oh yeah, let's not forget about the 2100 dollar dry carbon wrc lights replica.

it definitely calls for a widebody kit!

anyone have access to better pics or can find pics of them installed on other WRXs?

That's real dry carbon...

EDIT: that last pic was taken with the subaru giken kit, which is multi piece, very poor compared to the burn up single piece, shown in the first three pics.

i have bought from takakaira in the past and had no problems with the order or the shipping time - the part was back ordered and shipped the day they promised it and was at my door a few days later - actually quicker than most parts i order from US shops.

i didnt get any big body kit/massive packages though.
au112 09-17-2003 01:53 AM

The headlights have to go with that bumper, right? Otherwise it will lose the signals:confused:

Andy
omega 09-17-2003 02:10 AM

that wide front fender can it fit the stock bumper?
NeoGeo 09-17-2003 09:39 AM

I think so. The burn-up front bumper can fit to stock body.

Yes the turn signals are made by hella and works with that headlight. But if you buy the cc-b's headlight, that comes with a turn signal already so you'll have two :)

Maybe we should get a group buy.....you should see the number of GD's with that kit in Japan...
NeoGeo 09-17-2003 09:48 AM

More pics...56k don't even try.

Burn-up full WRC conversion...right down to the antennas!

Is it me or does that wrc wrx front fender is flared out more?

Mike
ForceFed4 09-17-2003 01:42 PM

It looks like that would certainly require a lightweight front bumper beam to fit, correct?

Any idea if it could be installed without the little round turnsignal? (without the dry carbon light kit it's not needed)
NeoGeo 09-17-2003 02:34 PM

Blue: it's a wide fender, but it can be fitted to a normal WRX, or the other way around: normal WRX can use all other parts and skip the fender.

Force: not sure about the beam...usually the J-spec one is needed if you want a FMIC, but bumpers might work with the USDM one. The turn signal is there for authenticity, if you don't install it it'll just be a blank hole. A lot of JDM ppl use JDM headlights and simply don't connect the turn signal.
blueribbon 09-17-2003 02:38 PM

If I get the fenders can I use a different front bumper?

Do you want '97 WRC or '00 WRC? The replicas are specific for each year ;)

How is this bumper compared to the Prodrive?

And what if I don't want the radiator cover part?

Vostok 7
02R6 09-17-2003 11:06 PM

I'm already part of the way there
I have one piece in common with this car:

The side visors:

Do you happen to know where to buy these? Those sideskirt look COOL

I WANT IT !
NeoGeo 09-18-2003 09:29 AM

Vos: by prodrive bumper are you talking about the prodrive UK type? That's just a regular WRX OE bumper with two very big fog light covers that say STi :) If you don't want the radiator part, you can always chop it off

02R6: you're almost there! :)

Fry: you can get that from burn-up, but no one in the US carries them. Japanparts and TakaKaira can get them to you, although at double the Japanese price.

That sideskirt actually works b/c it's an exact replica of the WRC car. Unlike others on the market, it's very wide, extends out beyond the wheels to control airflow.

Funny thing is, Burn-up kits are very reasonably priced (well other than the headlights), but to get it here takes the price up by two folds.

OK, does anyone have a link to where you can get that??? I look on the TakaKaira site with no luck... That look awesome though... I love the full conversion street car.. I would crap my pants if I saw that on the street.. Very cool to go all the way... The second picture above is just a roof scoop on a STI though...

Ben
Maicca 09-18-2003 10:08 AM

That kit is

What would they cost on the street in Japan? I can't find a price....
NeoGeo 09-18-2003 11:06 AM

Well the Japan street price is shown by Ikonosian on the very first post link. It's via TaikaKaira and it's a close conversion from Japanese Yen. Burn up price is very reasonable (900 dollars for the full 1 piece bumper), it's cheaper than Subaru Giken (which is a POS compared to the Burn up quality), yet we Americans can get Subaru Giken from anywhere (vivid? :)) but no one carries the better yet cheaper one, Burn up.

Here's the Burn up link with all their customer's rides:
http://burn-up.vis.ne.jp/nai_ru/cgi-bin/users/clip.cgi

It's all in Japanese, but I trust you can read the chassis code and go from there :)

Just FYI: Japanparts gave me a quote of 2000 dollars for that one piece bumper, painted and shipped to my door. In Japan that's more like 1200 dollars painted. TaikaKaira has better pricing, and sea-shipping but I never bought from them before, and I'm hesitant to give them a "1500 dollar" try.

The prodrive I am talking about is the one that looks exactly like that without the blinkers.

But I like the idea of having four blinkers since I want EDMs... And I figure the body shop who paints can lop the radiator cover off..

Vostok 7
Vostok 7 09-18-2003 11:39 AM

One more question... Do you need to mess with the bumper beam to fit the Burn-up kit?

Vostok 7
NeoGeo 09-18-2003 12:22 PM

Hmmm...it sounded like you guys think I already have the kit installed! Well I don't and AFAIK no one in the US has that kit...so I don't know, sorry. I wish someone can find the means/money to buy one and post a response. I'm still searching for ways to get it myself. :(

p.s. I don't know the prodrive one w/o the blinkers...if you can show me a pic that'll be great. I do know that Burn-up replicate the bumper from a specific year's WRC car. So on swrt.com it's corresponding to the 2001 car, which has blinkers..

There's the Prodrive.

I really like this kit. I recently had a little runin with a hit and run driver... here's to hoping my insurance will poney up $900 for a new bumper...

Yeah that's the "Prodrive UK" one I was talking about. If you look at it closely, you'll see that it's just the WRX OE bumper but with a slight modification to accept the wrap-around fog light covers. You'll see that the middle bumper is exactly the same as OE, and you can even see the little cover of the front tow eye.

In addition, that's only the bumper, you'll still need to buy that grill to get the WRC look. It's far from a "replica" of the WRC bumper, which is one piece, not to mention numerous other details.

It's a nice piece, but IMO not worth the price: Rallispec charges 1700 painted, other places charges 1500 or so.

I have been looking at the "Type III" spoiler for some time. Gimmie Gears has a replica, and MRT, too. MRT's is a bit more $$ but they reuse stock holes, have a tail light, and can use extra mounting holes....

NeoGeo 09-22-2003 02:33 PM

okay I'm going to bring this thread up again: it's POSSIBLE (no garantee what's so ever) that I can get this Burn-Up bumper through some vendors here. Would there be any interest in Burn-Up's WRC conversion products? Maybe (I say maybe) it'll be a bit cheaper if we bring a number of their products over from Japan.

No promises on anything, just gauging interests.

I can provide more links/info if there's enough interest.
jacobsen1_ 09-22-2003 02:58 PM

I'm very interested in the burn up kit for the 04... but not until next summer as I have more important things to spend my mod money on now (stage 2 and wheels). I would love to see this thing avaliable around here.

NeoGeo 09-23-2003 04:00 PM

Okay I'll put you down for a bumper :)

Suppose this thing does come through, it'll probably go by sea due to the size of the order. So it'll take a while.

Also all parts will come in fiberglass with white gel-coat, just FYI.

Here's a link of a Japanese dude who installed the kit. He gave subaru giken 3 stars, Burn-up 5. Yes he had enough $$ to "shop and compare" ;)

BOFslime 09-24-2003 12:08 PM

wow... thats crazy.
that would explain why they're so popular over there.

I'm unsure why the company that makes them doesn't market them over in the US and acutally distribute them. I'm sure there would be enough market for that, along with the rest of there lineup. it would also bring down the cost of shipping drastically.
Maicca 09-24-2003 01:56 PM

If they truly are THAT easy to pick up in Japan, I will make that my "mission imperative" when I go there later this year. :D

Argh ... kit still needs the WRC wide rear fenders + bumper.
