Possible Chargespeed Vortex Generator / Roof Fin GB part 1

typer_126 08-29-2005 04:02 PM

Possible Chargespeed Vortex Generator / Roof Fin GB
Hey Folks,

Adam from Z1 has mentioned that he is willing to work up some GB pricing for us on the new Chargespeed CF Vortex Generator. He already has a shipment inbound, so here's a chance to get a good deal if you're interested.

He's asked me start getting a list together, so final pricing will be determined by how many people we can get to commit. I'll add more detail to this thread as I can, but for now I'd just like to get some names to see what the intereste level is.

Thanks,
Mike

typer_126 08-29-2005 04:17 PM

I'll see if Adam has an idea of what the standard pricing is going to be and then we can work down from there. :D

FWIW, the Yen pricing on the Chargespeed site is 38,000. That's $344 at today's rate.

I would really like to see more pics of this. More of a full shot from the back, both straight back and from a bit of an angle. Of course on a silver STi if possible ;)

I wonder how much the ABS version on eBay weighs compared to the wet CF one...
Davenow 08-29-2005 04:58 PM

no way in hell am I paying anywhere near $350 for that

$350 to add useless weight to my car.. Yeah thats gonna happen

:D, Unfortunately I don't think these are anywhere in the States right now. All I have are the images I've stolen from the Chargspeed site. ;)

Here's another borrowed pic from the UK. This is not the same piece, but it gives you an idea of how a similar piece looks from a farther distance.

bfarm 08-29-2005 06:33 PM

How does it attach to the roof? I also wonder if I could pack an XM antennae into one of the fins, would be a nice alternative to the scratchy magnetic antennae XM provides.
How does it attach to the roof? I also wonder if I could pack an XM antennae into one of the fins, would be a nice alternative to the scratchy magnetic antennae XM provides.
This it total speculation on my part, but I'd be very surprised if it weren't a double sided tape affair. Some good 3M tape would be more than enough secure it indefinitely.

Hiding an XM antennae in there is a great idea!
watch out for mods u need to ba a venndor
Z1 Performance is a NASIOC vendor. Adam asked me if I could do the legwork on this for him. I'm sure it will be moved to the Vendor forum once things start to come together with pricing. Right now I'm just trying to get a feel for the level of interest so he can give us feedback on what the pricing tiers will look like.

Davenow 08-30-2005 02:07 AM

Show me where Chargespeed did wind tunneling to test that it actually works and I am in. Otherwise forget it.

If it does actually work, I think I could be down for this, but not at 380 bucks.
02Toyowrx 08-30-2005 02:21 AM

How about I buy one and you all can by re-makes from me... same quality and 100% carbon
HAHA
you know someone will start producing the remakes like the Mines rear lip.
So you guys can pay $300+ have fun
02Toyowrx 08-30-2005 02:23 AM

Does the chargespeed vortex gen raise at higher speeds like the spoiler deal on the VW Turbo bug?

 I think you'll be waiting a long time if you want wind tunnel results! In all honesty, I would personally think of this as more of an appearance mod than anything else. I fully believe that they do break up the boundry layer, just like on the Evo, but I doubt I'll ever really notice. I also bought a V-limited lip (which does have documented aero improvements), but I'll be damned I've noticed any more high speed stability. I just thought it made the front of the car look that much better.
engineerx 08-30-2005 04:12 PM

ADD ME! ( >$350 SHIPPED)
I would buy one too - *for the looks* and 1-pound of downforce more @ 100 mph !

I emailed the British shop that's on that website - they quoted 450 Brit pounds + shipping for their piece = $804 (Brit Isles economy sucks !!) (which I have to admit looks even better - Fins are bigger - more aggresive)

i think id be in depending on price.

How does it install??
typer_126 08-30-2005 06:42 PM

Latest word from Adam is that they don't have a time frame on shipping the CF version, although the FRP one is available right now. For those who would want to go ahead and order the FRP now (about $100 cheaper), please respond again to this thread. I'll be breaking out the list into those who want to wait for the CF and those who want FRP.

Thanks,
Mike
jmanrex 08-30-2005 07:38 PM

hey mike you can take me off the list i am getting an abs version from the company that is selling them on ebay

got mine for $100.00   :disco:

they have a ton forsale but the price keeps going up everyday

but thank you and adam for finally getting something together on this -- i would have went with this group buy but the price was too good to pass up
STi-MAN 08-30-2005 08:50 PM

Alizarin 08-30-2005 10:56 PM

I'd be interested in an FRP version. Probably would look just at good painted to match the car
itjustWoRX 08-31-2005 01:03 AM

i'm really interested in the CF one for my PSM wrx, however i'd really like to see an actual full-car shot of the VG.

any such pic?

megaben300 08-31-2005 03:34 AM

I personally think these things look like azz unless it's on a modified rally car. Not to mention that carbon fiber (A) Isn't going to save you hardly any weight on a part this size. (B) is ruined once it is damaged. (C) also looks like azz IMHO. CF has become the fart can muffler and primered bodykit of today.

But anyways, since I know that none of you care what I think about this crap, check out THIS LINK I know it's not real CF, but you'll look just as bad and pay less for it. :)
advanracing62 08-31-2005 07:06 AM
...looks like azz IMHO. CF has become the fart can muffler and primered bodykit of today.
actually- I agree that naked CF on a factory car is very unappealing. Not only that but it entices thieves- I paint my CF so as not to draw attention- thanks for caring though ;)
rsracer2005 08-31-2005 10:21 AM

how do you install it??
STi-MAN 08-31-2005 11:19 AM

maybe adam should actually post on this thread with some answer to general pricing.
typer_126 08-31-2005 02:11 PM
i'm really interested in the CF one for my PSM wrx, however i'd really like to see an actual full-car shot of the VG.
Please keep in mind that I don't have any super secret info or images about this product other than what everyone with a browser can see at the Chargespeed website. :D I'm just trying to help put together this list for Adam to help myself, and anyone else who wants one, to get a good deal on the pricing.

The esitmated prices I've given are simple conversions of the Yen pricing listed by Chargespeed. Actual pricing is yet to be determined, but given the bulk order and surface shipping, I it should be fairly close. Putting your name on the list at this time is not any sort of requirment to fully commit to a purchase.
might b interested depending on price and if it will fit a 2002
Chargespeed lists this part as fitting all the GD series bodies.
I personally think these things look like azz unless it's on a modified rally car. Not to mention that carbon fiber (A) Isn't going to save you hardly any weight on a part this size. And I personally think carbon "look" looks like azz. ;) :p

That just screams I want to look cool, but can't afford to buy the real thing. Raw carbon finished pieces are entirely a matter of preference and for me (A) I'm not concerned about saving weight on a piece that weighs no more than a couple pounds to begin with. (B) I don't plan on running the shiny side down anytime soon, so I'm not concerned with damage to anything on my roof! (C) I think blends in rather nicely on a black car (which is what I have), not to mention saves a lot of hassle and extra expense in getting something match painted, especially in a metallic color. YMMV :disco:
maybe adam should actually post on this thread with some answer to general pricing.
Feel free to PM or call Adam directly. I get the impression that he really doesn't want to have much to do getting people lined up after the aweful response he got on the HKS diffuser. If we can demostrate enough real demand though that always helps. Please keep in mind though he has to communicate with the folks in Japan that are in a much different time zone. Even a simple question takes at least 24 hours to get a response to.
engineerx 09-01-2005 01:24 PM

That's 26 interested people on the CF part
TYPER_126 , maybe you can ask Z1 about pricing and then have those on the list say if they REALLY want this part...

Exactly. It's easy for people to say they want something when there's no price on it!
typer_126 09-01-2005 06:33 PM

I've got another PM into him, so we'll see what he has for us. I'm hoping that if enough people are willing to put down a deposit we can get Chargespeed to ramp up production of the CF version.
proletariandan 09-01-2005 07:06 PM

would this fit on the back of the wagon? like right before the spoiler?
