That's the guy giving Phil a couple of achers.
I meant the guy on the hood. It looks like he might be Masaru Katsurada - president of STi!

Just finished watching. Great result Petter! I guess I will have to stop raggin' on Pirelli as they definitely were key to the victory in wet conditions.

i think petter would have congratulated loeb regardless, but i also am under the impression they are something of friends.

Is it just me or is the quality of Speed's WRC coverage getting better?

I imagine Loeb had mercy on Petter, since Sebastian will probably win the next three events, and the Championship.
Congrats, Petter!

Absolutely. I think its due to Nicky, what a difference he makes to the coverage. I was cracking up during the interviews at the end of day 2 and during day 3, Petter and Sebastian were trading jabs but the jabs were funny as hell and seemed to be in good fun (to paraphrase):
Nicky: "Sebastian, Petter says he's going to turn it up a notch tomorrow...think you can take him?"
Seb: "Yeah, I think so. I don't think he's got anything left. If he does, it will be tough but I think he's already pushing at 100%"
 OK, it doesn't seem as funny but Loeb is like the anti-petter... he's funny as hell but in a dry humor. Petter's just a trip to listen to... and his congratulatory comments at the finish to Seb were a class act.

Great Race! Great Coverage! (both WRC Radio & Speed TV). My wife was even getting into it.
| Rattler | 09-08-2003 11:54 AM |
Speed also claimed they will have sameday coverage for the next one. They meant that they are airing a 2 hr. show the same weekend at least. :disco:
Keep it up Speed!
I found this in the post race meeting notes too:
Petter Solberg: "Can I just say something? As a Subaru man I would like to give a little bit to Possum Bourne. Like everyone I have good memories of him. This victory for me and the team should go to Possum Bourne."

Absolutely a great show. Especially since our team won. Overall Speed's coverage was great and it has gotten better over time.
BUT! How many times do you have to mention that Tommi is retiring and McCrae still doesn't have a sure ride for next year. We know! We Know already from the first several times you mentioned it!
You could make a good drinking game out of watching for every time Ralph repeated himself. Its like he was talking just to talk. Hey Ralph, it would totally be OK to let the roar of the engines, the grumble of the tires clawing for traction, and the whoot of the blow off valves do the talking once in a while!
And then there's the occasional comment on what the driver's motivation on a stage is. "He's gonna push very hard because he really wants this win." that type of stuff. DUH! All of the drivers are doing that. That's why they're there!
I wish the commentary was on a separate channel so you could shut Ralph up and just enjoy the sounds of the cars.

Even a little extra on the cable bill for such an option.
They would have to get rid of the mosaics on the Howard Stern Show as part of the deal too. :D

Not Burns , he was just cruising, apparently :D
It was funny at one of the interviews at the end, Petter just sort of forgot who the other guy he was racing against was, after a few seconds of silence, he finally uttered ... Loeb
I hope Petter goes all out from now on. He needs a Driver's Championship, not another second place. Do or die time!

I love that interview of Loeb... 2 stages before the end..
They ask Loeb "what are you going to do now that Solberg has the lead?"
Loeb said " he was very fast, I couldn't do anything.."

Hmmm....I guess I wouldn't mind being a goober if it meant I was the top Subaru WRC driver, second in the WRC points, great athletic shape (from my dancing background), girls drooling all over me (not that they don't already), etc.

It's great to see Petter doing so well this year. I wonder if Burns will take the same approach with Subaru that he has this year with Peugot, consistent rallies without podium finishes, or if he'll truly go for it each and every time.
I don't think there's any question that we'll get a retirement announcement from McRae by the next two rallies.
Bill

I am with Idjiit, Loeb is gonna win the whole thing. When they mentioned that the next three rounds were Tarmac, i figured he could do it. And, he is obviously getting pretty flippin good on the gravel events as well.
Petter winning this one was killer, the back and forth with Loeb was very exciting. Petter was shooting it straight when he said that he had a little more speed to give on the last day.
Go Subaru! I kinda hope that Petter can show Burnsie who's boss next year. He's just more fun anyway.

is this going to be shown on speed tv again anytime soon? ( i really need to get a tivo or something :p )

ok nm, i found it (even though it looks like the short version...they really should replay the entire rally's instead of the 20hrs a day of nascar they show..)
oh well...better than nothing i guess :)

After being on the road for a few days I finally got home and watched Speed's coverage of Rally OZ on the Tivo. What a great day for Petter and Subaru. I have been a fan of Solberg since he rolled out of Rally Finland in the Focus in, I think, 2000 or 2001 sending trees three rows deep shaking as he went through and still tried to drive out of the forest. This boy has heart.
But, the whole time I was watching this rally I was thinking, "Don't crash out Petter, please don't crash out". It is good to see that he seems to have matured a great deal this year. And mentioning Possum was a class thing to do.
BTW did anyone else notice that while calling split times back to the team on Banister North Citroen boss Freckland (sp?) was standing in front of a blue WRX?
Now, where do I get one of the black and blue hats that Tommi and Petter wear? I have the all blue driver autograph hat from Prodrive but I really want the ones they wear on the actual events.
BTW Adiliyo....you must get Tivo. I have it set to automaticly record anything with "World Rally" in the title and it never skips a beat. Seriously, I have talked people I know who aren't huge couch potatoes like me into getting Tivo and they say it changed their lives as far as TV is concerned. In fact, I sold my first Tivo to a friend at work, telling him he could try it out and just give it back if he didn't like it. I had a check in my hands two days later.
Anybody know why Petter's win isn't mentioned on the homepage? I avoided the site for three days just so it wouldn't be a spoiler.
Cheers-
Tom

I went to Pirelli's website to see if I could find anything on those hats too but didn't have any luck.
Petter's website has a cool t-shirt and a hat.
