Whats your opinion: the STI spoiler on the WRX
I know most people think the STI spoiler is sweet looking, I agree. But when you see a WRX with an STI spoiler.. what comes to your mind

do you think 'AHH POSER THAT ISNT EVEN AN STI! GET OFF THE ROAD  '

just figured id ask around here because i know 99% of you have good taste

never liked the high wing, even if it's functionable. reminds me of those crappy Kombat wings that I see on civics.

makes it worse when a non-STI has it. but to each their own :D
toadie 03-15-2006 08:45 PM

whatever your personal preference is. I really dont like the sti spoiler so i swaped trunks with a wrx.
subie freak 03-15-2006 08:51 PM

love the spoiler. looks good on the rex. but just don't put sti stickers on it if it doesn't have the performance of a sti.
KingOfSiam 03-15-2006 08:58 PM

As long as you get the scoop as well.

It also helps to debadge, lower it, and get better wheels, so you don't look like a poser.
DARKSTI 03-15-2006 08:58 PM

Rice..it should be on the STI's only
pitwipe 03-15-2006 09:01 PM

I don't like the STi wing, but I'd swap for an s204 wing in a heartbeat!
txl146 03-15-2006 09:02 PM

I wish STi wing is about 1/2 high. :(
-Kevlar- 03-15-2006 09:10 PM

oh god here we go again....

oh and i have, and love it.
antidote11 03-15-2006 09:14 PM

You asked for opinions, so I'll give mine.
I don't like the STI wing - never have, never will.
On a WRX, to me, it just looks even more silly.

I go wingless myself. :D
oh god here we go again....

Lmao... yuup

I think you can rule out functionality.. I think if either of them actually do anything its at like 90+ MPH, but I think the STi spoiler may have an edge as far as fuction is concerned over the WRX spoiler.

Looks wise, I like them both, but for my own car I'd either only have WRX spoiler or no spoiler, STi or not. Just my .2 :)
FWD WRX 03-15-2006 09:49 PM

i have one. i love it. my mudguards didn't look good with the wrx wing
-Kevlar- 03-15-2006 09:52 PM

i think the functionality is like ~70 pounds of downforce at 100 mph. not much, but i think its raised considerably with the rear window vortex thing.
MachinesWRX 03-15-2006 10:04 PM

eh..it looks Ok on STi's, looks bad on stock looking bugeyes. i prefer the WRC style wing, looks much better. other then that, the wrx wing is hot lava
nimblegimbal 03-15-2006 10:08 PM

So long as it isn't all badged up and what not... I still wouldn't do it...

IMO...

Wagon > s204 Wing > Raised WRX wing > Wingless > STi wing > WRX wing

oh, and 22b wing on a swapped rs >>>>> *.wing

I like the STi wing. Obviously, the guy who traded me trunks didn't love it so much.
*there are no STi badges on the wrx if that matters to anyone*

WRXXXual 03-15-2006 10:33 PM

I think the WRX doesn't have the visual gravitas, that extra "oompf" the STI does. You know what I mean, you could just look at the front end of a de-badged WRX & STI, side-by-side, and tell which one is swinging the bigger set. It's that front end that makes the STI specific spoiler look balanced on the back of an STI, and stupid on a WRX.

On the same token, I think an STI without the STI specific spoiler, or a WRX spoiler, looks visually imbalanced...therefore stupid as well.
Hondaslayer 03-15-2006 10:36 PM

No, no they shouldn't have.

The car is far too much for most people to handle now.
Smelli Bugatti 03-15-2006 10:43 PM

I put the wing on my WRX before the STI was even in USA. It bothered me when the STIs came and stole my look. I did think about getting one ( STI )but thought the headlights were fugly. So I de-badged,lowered,upgraded tires & did some cosmetics.
Who is a poser and who is old school and who is from the hood...Its all a matter of opinion. Mod your car and enjoy it. As long as it doesnt involve my money I dont care what you do to your soobe
Vashed 03-15-2006 11:33 PM

[sigh]

I've come to find that the Subaru community is far more tolerant of rice than other car enthusiasts. More than likely it's through ignorance of public opinion, as this is the way with 99% of all ricers: They don't realize it's ugly until it's too late.

Adding an STi wing to a WRX is rice. Deal with it.

can someone point me in the direction of a wingless trunk I have been looking for one for quite some time now
f4phantomii 03-16-2006 07:01 AM

Hehe...seems like the majority of STi owners here have gone to the WRX spoiler (like me) or wingless.

Guess there are more people trying to get rid of the wings than there are looking for them.

Go with whatever you like. Just remember, you'll be drilling more holes in your trunk to install the STi spoiler

OEM parts are rice?

I'm going for a Spec-C look...ish. No splitters, WRX wing, STi interior. I'm sure some people might confuse the two. But if you're a real Subaruista, you just look for the gold Brembos and six speed. Only a handful of crazy WRX owners are rocking those ;)
jimmerb 03-16-2006 09:55 AM

Not a fan of the wing. Not even on the STi. I am all about the stealth.
antidote11 03-16-2006 10:14 AM

I think the STI wing is grossly oversized and looks pretty much ridiculous on any car. Get the standard WRX spoiler or go wing nude. :D

+1 I couldn't agree more
brfatal 03-16-2006 12:42 PM

I'm debating a Primitive Racing "V7" spoiler. The stock WRX wing looks great on a stock rear end, but with my rear skirt, I dunno....

One problem is that I don't know how the fitment is.
daprez 03-16-2006 01:11 PM

I used to like them but they have kind of grown on me in reverse.

As far as appropriateness goes, if you are going to start worrying about that, just keep your car looking stock and be happy with it. Some people are always going to hate, whether its because you have a pink badge on a car with a stock EJ205 in it, or because you lack gold wheels.
SinisterSkube 03-16-2006 01:29 PM

i have it and i love it

I second this
sean10mm 03-16-2006 03:04 PM

This is just my opinion:

If you don't have the performance to back it up, and aren't driving fast enough for its aerodynamic benefits to show themselves, it is rice.

If, on the other hand, you use it on a track or otherwise haul ass with it, and can at least hang with a stock STI, then go for it.

Giant WRX wheelgap + STI wing + cheap rimz + stickahs =

Since this thread is about the STI wing....I was looking into removing the top 2/3 of mine at the seam. (Yes, I would need to cover the area that is exposed, I will figure that out before I actually pull it) Anyway when I removed the bottom panel to expose the 3 bolts....there is a cable or wire running up into the wing. Both sides. Anyone know what that is? There is no brake light on it. Is it easy to disconnect/pull out?
Thanks

Well technically STi is a tuning company, so just like people put HKS stickers on their car for their HKS exhaust, etc.... If you've spent the $$$ to by a STi part, I think its just fine to put an STi sticker on your plus. Plus, to each his own. If someone wants to cover their car in stickers they should, its their car, they're paying for it.

its stupid threads like this that clutter forums..evrything gets broken down to personal preference..and an sti wing is a functional piece..its completely different from someone putting an sti trunk badge on their wrx..and so if a someone puts an sti wing on their wrx..you make it seem like youre gonna do something abt it..worry abt your car and your car only

Actually, they like the big ones more, they say they're more satisfying. There's nothing worse than getting all excited over a Suby, then finding out it's packing small.

The one that say size doesn't matter, are just trying to not hurt your feelings. But honestly, size doesn't really affect performance all that much, your small unit can be perfectly functional. As long as you're satisfied.
