Summit Point Redline: Time Attack

Hey all,
The Summit Point Redline: Time Attack is now open for registration!
This will be the battle for the fastest car east of the Mississippi.
Several teams and racers are geared up for this one.
All info can be found here: http://redlinetimeattack.com/index-ap.html
Most of the teams that competed at the BeaveRun Time Attack are returning to defend there standing, and a many new contenders have already told me they plan to come out and take the fastest lap. This will be a great event! The fastest cars are headed out to Summit Point on August 5 & 6 2006.
The Redline: Time Attack has several classes so even if you don't have a built up Unlimited class car, you can still take the honors in our Street or Modified class. We have classes from street car to race car. For more info, please visit www.timeattack.com.
See you at the track track.

Is there an entry list yet? Also, is a stock STi in street or modified class? The classing doc says "Subaru: all models" under both street and modified.
| XeviousR | 07-13-2006 01:31 PM |
A stock STi can run in Street. I think last year the rules said that a Stock STi had to run in Modified, but they changed the rule this year. I can confirm that a STi with light mods was running in Stock at the BeaveRun event.

I ran my STi in street at BeaveRun. I have a tull turbo back an EM.
Read the rules, its all about the tires you hav eon the car really. The 70's are JUST inside the street limit. So i could run in street :)
Guys, this is a great event, if i can get my porsche running I'll be there in that.
here is a pic from beaverun

Subaru STi is permitted in Street Class... so long as you use "street" tires.
| InfiniteMotorsports | 07-31-2006 03:19 AM |
What type of driving/cars are in the beginner and intermediate classes (saturday)? IE what would be best for a decent driver in a lightly modded 04 STi?

You can look at our entry list for Saturday:

Mark Daddio in an EVO looks cool. Maybe he'll beat Tarzan.
| XeviousR | 08-01-2006 09:31 AM |
There is a good chance that Daddio will beat Tarzan.. because Daddio is in an Unlimited car but Tarzan is in Modified. Don't count out the Buscher Racing Evo though. It is seriously fast! Busher vs. AMS will be a great shoot out for top honors.
| leecea | 08-01-2006 09:42 AM |
Yes, I noticed Tarzan wasn't driving the Skyline this time.

as much as I can say that Evo was fast, i HOPE he was holding back at beave run. He will need it if they are going to take FTD at Summit ;)
Oh and BIG props to XeviousR as he is driving BOTH the Cusco Evo and his Cusco STi :disco:

Except that Buschur doesn't have anyone driving his Evo 8 that is remotely of the same skill as Daddio ;)

To be a little more offical about this, my "PR" guy wrote this up
Tuesday August 1st:
The Crossroad/GTworx 944 cup car will make its debut appearance at the Redline Time Attack, August 5th and 6th! After many sleepless nights, and hours spent in, around, and under the old 944 the beast is finally running. However, the team found out this weekend the car has a small overheating issue. This problem is in the process of getting fixed so the car will be in order to run without issues this weekend. In addition to being a fun event the Redline Time Attack will be a great place to set the 944 up and track down any issues that the car is still having. The car and its driver, Ross Miller, will be there both days competing in the challenging Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Unlimited class. These are some of the fastest cars on track and with no real restrictions on power or setup the underpowered 944 will have to use everything it has to overcome the horsepower difference.
Ross competed in the last Redline Time Attack with the Crossroad team at the Beaverun Motorsports Complex May 13th and 14th. However, back then he was driving his GTworx Subaru STi, which is very different than the 944 race car. While the 944 is lighter, the Subaru has All Wheel Drive and 170 more horsepower. With the Redline Time Attack and several High Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) events later this year Ross should be in great shape for the 2007 944 Cup season.

Lots of talk of EVOs and STis, but heavy AWD cars with laggy turbos are going to be out of their element on the technical Shenandoah track.
A K20 Elise/Exige is the car to have on this track.

Alright.. i saw a ton of cool cars this weekend and i must admit I was sorry to hear that Dave, from DSG, lost compression in his motor. He was aiming for number 1 in the unlimited AWD class in his 04 sti. I'm sure he had more power than the evos, but he'll ge tthem next time!!

FTD (unlimited winner) was the JIC s15 (yea, he was very fast)
first Unlim AWD was the AMS evo, 2nd was the buscher evo, 3rd was dave!!!
Mod AWD it was something like DTM evo (driven by tom milner), AMS evo, DTM evo (also driven by milner), then 4th was James in the cosco Evo.
Street awd was DTM, James in his STi, and someone
haha, thats all i really remember. I think James did really well as he is no professional race car driver and was given two very different cars to drive. The Sti blew a tire and forced him into street. But the tires he had on for street (Eagle DS-G3's) are junk track tires, and he sill managed 2nd!!!!! Even in the Evo James was VERY fast!
Mad props to james for driving two cars and doing well in both of them.

My best was around a ~1.47.1
I had a blast, and enjoyed meeting a lot of new people. My WRX needs more power, but otherwise it worked flawlessly and I was happy with it.

eclip5e, you'll be up there with like 40 more hp. That event is weird, different but good in that you can run more power than other "street" classed events with other organizations. I think that everything's perfect including driving (fwiw) with your setup just less pwr. My car is knackered now btw.

+1 for having a HUGE team down there
-1 for spelling
Although, if you have another track like summit, your WRX could use diffs, and a well tuned suspension to be fast :)
My fastest time was a 1:49 in a 1984 944, the engine is BONE stock making all of 150hp (if that) and the only thing done is suspension, cage and no interior. Car with me weighs in at ~2800 (i think). And after driving that track without a diff, i added that to my whsh list :)
Still, Alex and gang, well done!!!!!

Some nice diffs would rock, and i'm very pleased with the suspension setup. I could do a bit of fine tuning on it however. There is also some weight loss I could do.

Seeing how I could neither afford the event on my meager salary nor actually drive down to the event in my 1997 Eclipse GSX, I decided to cover the "softer side" of the Redline Time attack. You may have seen me wandering around, but I'll get to personal images of my victory later....
Anyways, how do we sum this up. After an excruciatingly long Friday drive while going a whopping 55 miles per hour the entire way, I was quite looking forward to a good night's sleep. Onwards in the morning, I have to say, Saturday was a pretty medium day. I spent most of it absorbing the rays, relaxing, and occasionally going for a ride in a white EVO9 trying to make him go faster, but to no avail. No one gives a crap about that anyways. Given how I could've easily defeated that stupid JIC SILL BEER with a bone stock 1986 Cadillac Cimarron running on 3 cylinders, Uniroyal Tigerpaws (in 165/70/14), and two fat chicks in the back, if I had my Eurobeat/Para Para mix playing the whole time. It just wouldn't be fair to you poor folk to just be completely dominated by someone like me.
Luckily, there were other things to do in the wonderous place of West Virginia. Being from the North, things were peculiarly different than where I'm from. Like having your main shopping centers being Walmart. Now what's the most peculiar thing about Walmart? Well, the clientelle never changes. It's always the same. People who just love a bargain. Having decided to stay at the QUALITY INN, which is an okay hotel, for 5 dollars, three of the crew decided to buy matching Neon Orange bathing suits for the pool, all in Large (Interestingly enough, large means LARGE as in 36-40 inch waists. None of us had these specifications, but hey, they have draw strings). Unfortunately, due to the hours the pool opening, these remained unused. I left mine in the hotel room. I hope the cleaning crew liked it.
Onward to more coverage of Saturday, I was wearing my Yellow Fever shirt with the chick having her skirt blown up by the wind, for extra class, because everyone loves that, especially the JIC crew workers. I knew I was looking very awesome in my shades because everyone was like "Oh man, it's the world pro driver that I cannot mention due to the fact that this is the internet and everyone will look up his name and then he'll totally get swamped by e-mails and offers to take their daughters and all those exclusive world-class, super winning F1 teams wanting him to drive for them, like Super Aguri."
I walked around the pit area, scoping out the hot babe scene. Some were good, some were not so good, and I had a discrepancy with my roommate, Ron on whether or not this half-asian looking girl with the green shirt on Saturday was a hot babe or not. He was convinced that she was an 8, and I was more like she was a 6.5 to 7. I mean she was taggable but an 8 for her was being a little to generous without a few IPA's. The scale is sliding 2 points on drinking for me, as it probably is for you, if not more, but I never have to deal with ugly babes. He later admitted to the fact that she looked a lot like some taiwanese ex of his. I think it was the handbag she was carrying, you know those homey-made looking ones that are soft and made of that ugly suburban white SUV mom stuff. I hate those things. UGH!!!!!
As my wanderings continued, I found my way to the NOS energy drinks, with the tow of my roommate. I silently contemplated making a two big bottles joke, but that would just be completely purile. Suddenly, Ron starts going into convulsions as he lays eyes upon the booth. One of the workers in the booth is ASIAN!! Now Ron is much more deserving of my said previous t-shirt, but I bought it and tough titties for him. He immediately demands a drink. I have never seen a man's face drop so fast when he got a closer look, and realized that she wasn't actually Japanese. Certainly, his "J-dar" had picked up a false-positive signal. She was very bored looking, and was playing with a black Motorola Razr. I somewhat pitied her, but hey, she was probably getting paid (which I would later find out that she made 200 dollars the entire weekend). I make a half hearted joke about wanting Nitrous Oxide in a can without the sulfur, which would require you to know that medical grade nitrous and automotive nitrous only differ from each other by the fact that medical grade is slightly more consumable, and does not contain the sulfur that automotive nitrous oxide does. I get a polite laugh out of it, the kind where Stephen Hawkings tells you a joke about quantum mechanics and your eyes glaze over with his incredible knowledge, which is pretty much what I expected.
Being a somewhat half-assed fan of energy drinks. I took a sip. It was.... Eh. Mediocre. Certainly wouldn't be replacing my personal choices. Now Ron had a flat, warm, can in front of him, and he proceeded to try it for a "secondary kiss" off the girl. We, myself and the girl, began to goad Ron into drinking it. He does so, but slightly reluctantly. Once his lips touch the can, the girl, who I come later to find out is named Bo (or Beau, I don't know the particular spelling of her name), blurts out that she has Herpes simplex 1, and that Ron would be at risk. I immediately throw down my sunglasses, just to show that I meant business, and demand to know the truth about her terminal illnesses and sexual history. Ok, so I don't but it would've been so bad-ass, and still wanted to respect the rules of the wonderful facilities, as well as give her proper respect as a woman. Anyways, that was all well and good. We give our parting glances and Bo(Beau?) sighs as she knows that she will not be able to see me again until tomorrow possibly. How unfortunate.
A side note if I may, I will say that Summit Point has a more than reasonable priced drink selection and food prices, if the food was a bit bland and low selection. It was certainly better than NHIS's prices, I will tell you this much!
As the evening progressed, I tired and was not in the mood. Our crew agreed to go to the after-party, which was, eh, okay. We were too burnt out and had too much of an early morning on saturday. Luckily I could actually get a decent beer, and I quickly took down two Guinesses and proceeded to eat an okay sandwich before heading back to the hotel where we watched 16 Candles and I laughed because Duckie was such a loser in that movie.

She was a solid 8, pregnant, and i'm betting her mom was asian and dad white. She had freckles, and she wore the grey 1-piece dress on saturday, and green on sunday. She was with a friend and 2 guys one of which i'm sure was the father/husband.
She totally gave me a few looks of the type "I'm checking you out, and if i wasn't pregnant and married i'd totally hook up with you". She was especially eyeballing me when i pulled up in front of her in my GDB in the pits.

Ron and Tristian, what time did you get home? Ron, I've never driven your car hard or at the track but following you co-driving with Kip the car looked really well composed. It seems like gearing and power would help a lot. I say that only after driving Meghan's WRX hard a couple of times. The gears compared to my car are spread from 1-4 too much to keep the power on. I think that a lot of these "fast" unlimited class time trial cars could be faster with stock turbos and really good gearboxes than they are with GT30s. It's either that these guys haven't realized it or that they're dismissed as too expensive. I doubt it's the latter given the equipment I saw this weekend.

Regarding the pool and my/our northern perspective on life. I'm a bit of a food snob. To preface this rant, I shop at Whole Foods. If you hate me for that you shouldn't read on. If you don't know what that is, then you're from WV.
I've done a bit of traveling lately and I have to confess that while I thought that the New England population was averagely rotund, the midwest is undoubtedly the Sea World of this country. Food is regionally bad, porportions are too big, no one exercises. For example, Harper's Ferry WV: somehow a bar in Boston is named after this gem of a destination which is a digression but what is it? Marked only by fast food, Walmart and the "nice restaurant" Ruby Tuesday's with a Salad bar that's grazed upon by sea cows piling cold slaw and other mayonaise creations on high hoping to capture that last bacterial infection from the fatty child that sneezed on it a few minutes prior. I can't imagine why there isn't a Starbucks coffee, or why McDonalds doesn't have ice coffee there, or why there's not a privately owned restaurant or coffee shop in any town within 50 miles that would help to define local culture which is instead lost under the golden arches.
My disatisfaction continued throughout the weekend when on Saturday night we questioned the bouncer at the bar where the afterparty was held. Obviously biased, the bouncer informed me that the food was indeed "good" and that I'd be satisfied with what became a steak-um sandwich and Velveta Nachos. I ate one bite and eschewed the urge to vomit only because I thought that they would reserve it later as a northern delicacy.
I know this is terrible and it's only really a joke. I've been to MD and DC and that area is really nice which increases my confusion as to why the rest of the country isn't demanding choice beyond McDonalds and Wendys. It's more a statement of American culture, being overrun, laissez-faire, complacent and accepting of uncomfortable, unhealthy life, and please don't try to convince me that a 400lb couple with a 200lb child is either successful or happy.
This all ties into the above post about there being no hot girls out there, (or was that even a post, who cares) although I once dated a girl from WV that lived in Boston and she was really hot, probably why she left WV. Maybe they were going to burn her.. and consume

umm, i think your geography needs a little work ;) WV is not the midwest. As ghetto as it is, its still within the mid-atlantic limits. But i agree with your observation about the midwest being the seaworld of the US. There is some study that says 60% of people in the midwest are overweight and like 30% are actually obese.
meh, i went to school in IN, so I have little exposure to the Orca and whathot roaming the great plains :)

^^whoa... :)
I like your cool truck a lot - and the EVO 2 was STELLAR
Winchester and 'Sweet Carolines' was certainly interesting - we had the pleasure of walking from Hampton Inn to the par-tay.
Rule #7 - if a 'restaurant' has a cover charge don't expect much.
We were 'raced' by a big diesel pick up of some sort that was in fact towing a trailer at the time.

Anything beyond New England is either the Midwest or "Out West." Out West, as I learned in school includes Utah and Colorado and anywhere from where cowboys come save for gay '80s bands. It doesn't include CA because CA is a country in itself.
I guess WV isn't midwest but it's not New England, and it's a hell of a lot like Missouri and Ohio.
Since I'm digging myself a terrible hole I might as well go for it.
Sam, I think that the economy is based almost exclusively on the easy in easy out trucker lifestyle. Maybe the locals have adapted their own lives as a result of having a town that's designed to attract travelers for a quick, cheap expericence. Thanks for the compliment too. I thought the traction was a little greasy after one lap. There were problems with IC pipes blowing off on Sat.. all day long, then the fuel pump died on Sat afternoon. I'm happy that it turned around on Sunday.

I will admit that I was more than kind to the food selection, if only because I didn't want to step on any toes. The food was awful and I really wish I had stopped at a food lion, and maybe have tried to find something that wasn't delivered in giant food trucks.
I used to think Boston was colorless/losing what remained of its character compared to say, New York City, or maybe even Toronto if you wanted to stretch it, due to the absolutely bananas real estate condo market, but man oh man, I suppose I sure am spoiled. Ron, I think you need to get Eric to move down there. He'd be *home*.
I'll post the sunday experience in a few hours at work.
PS: Alex- we got home at around 3:30 AM after taking an hour nap off the side of the road. We left about 15 minutes after the award ceremony ended.

I'm from the town that you speak of (Harper's Ferry, WV) and found it a very nice place to grow up. Although I agree that a large proportion of the population are not highly educated or very healthy, I think it's pretty lame to pass judgement on an entire state/area. Maybe you were just grumpy after driving 12 hours from Boston, a city which I was not very impressed by. Also, Whole Foods is a scam. That is all.
In any event, I was upset to have missed this event, it looked like fun. I haven't decided what my thoughts are on the Shenandoah circuit, I've crewed for a few of the SPEC series races at the track but have not driven it yet.
My only complaints were with the stores, food and lack of local identity from an outsiders perspective. The area near the track was beautiful as were the fields and farms.
next time you all come down, let me know, I'm outside of DC (45min to an hour away) and you all can stay there :) WE have whole foods and weagmens, lol for all your snooty tastes
Naw, but really, next time you all come down, you are more than welcome to crash at my place.
I think maybe there is a market for a snooty grocery store. We shall call it "Food Liger". It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.
My absolute favorite part of the whole trip was the near constant challenges i got just driving around. Lets see the list of who revved their engines at me as a gesture of "lets race!"
