LightWerkz.net - First Ever s2000 Projector Retrofit?
Just wanted to show you guys/gals the project I finished over the weekend. No on car shots but I should have those in a day or so.

The following consists of 06 S2000 Projectors (*Color Modded) retrofitted into an 04/05 Impreza Headlamps. The reflectors and housings were painted Charcoal Metallic, and the 3" E46 Shroud was painted gloss black. The bulbs are OEM Philips 4300k, 15 LED amber turn signals, and amber 5 LED parking lamps.

Let me know if any has any questions.

Those are Sick!
steverx05 11-12-2006 09:02 PM

HOT! How would these compare to the other projectors you use for these retrofits?
HOT! How would these compare to the other projectors you use for these retrofits?
90% of people would agree that s2k projectors are the best single xenon projector. They carry a hefty price tag. But the beam is one of the sharpest and widest out there...
Handsdown 11-12-2006 09:12 PM

damn... s2k projectors are very hard to find but holy crap, they look great.

how's the spread on that LED turn signal? it looks like it wouldn't light up the reflectors at all...
LightWerkz 11-12-2006 09:14 PM

I havent tried the LED's just yet. They might look like they are on, but its just the flash. The LED turn signals have LED's on top and LED's on the sides...it should be good.

Now thats a seriously beautiful piece of lighting goodness. I was thinking at first, doesnt the s2000 come with projectors? Then when i saw the first picture everything became clear...
steverx05 11-12-2006 09:43 PM

Do the LED turn signals you use make your blinkers go crazy fast? I have some of those silver coated amber bulbs in mine right now but they don't light up very bright.
never_summer 11-12-2006 09:47 PM

thats one thing i like about my moms s2000 is the hid's

they did for me, it requires a special resistor in the circuit that tricks your electrical system to think there's still a functional bulb in the housing, instead of a low resistance LightEmittingDiode.
outferno 11-12-2006 09:50 PM

my God, I want that done for mine.
LightWerkz 11-12-2006 09:55 PM

Ahh no wonder why they blink faster (Ive tried these in the past)...

What resistors can I use?

Thanks...
Handsdown 11-12-2006 10:04 PM

no problem. i just swapped back to incandescents, so i can't give you firsthand experience but i seem to recall 330 ohm resistors being used in other's cars. you might want to do some further research on that though.

once again, great work on the retro! i have to say, your shrouds look awesome and i think you offer way more than most retrofitters i've seen online. thumbs up, keep up the good work! i hope to become a retrofitter myself once i have some time to spend. looking at these headlight guts, my spare headlights, and an empty banking account is so depressing:( senior year at college is really killing my car productivity:lol:
steverx05 11-12-2006 10:11 PM

Ok, I got bored and found a site that sells load resistor kits for LED turn signals to make them blink like normal. They are down near the bottom of the page. It says 6 ohm 50 watt resistors.

http://www.superbrightleds.com/tail-brake-turn.html

I'm sure you can make your own too for much cheaper. If someone knows how to or a site that shows how to they should speak up haha!
LightWerkz 11-12-2006 10:12 PM

Yeah Ill prob end up swapping them out in the case, I have plenty of bulbs here, im just playing around.

This setup is actually going in my car. I bought new WRX headlamps for this project just to use the new front lenses.

I try to offer as much as possible, I like doing the unthinkable, and its also great to have something as unique as this on a car.

Be sure when you work on your first retrofit you plan out alot of time and have your self a spare set of lamps to work on.
Handsdown 11-12-2006 10:21 PM

have the lamps, need the time;)
LightWerkz 11-12-2006 10:22 PM

Just work on it alittle bit at a time. If you need help PM me...

You're a lighting vendor.. and you don't know that LEDs blink faster because of less resistance on the line...

Kinda scary man..
LightWerkz 11-13-2006 12:12 AM

As you can see I don't deal bulbs, only offer headlamp services. I do offer bulbs for my packages though, none of which are LED blinkers as shown here.
ej25_TS 11-13-2006 02:03 AM

can't wait untill i do mine... looks sick!
Subi114 11-13-2006 03:53 AM

damn caesar is there an upgrade exchange program? those look sick as always... I like mine they're pretty sharp and wide output... if these are suppose to be better i can only imagine....
LightWerkz 11-13-2006 07:51 AM

Hehe, the TSX's are good enough for the majority of peoeple. Of course I had to take it a step higher for myself ;)
white-shadow 11-13-2006 08:30 AM

aren't the new s2000 lens different?... frensel lens or something?

LightWerkz this retrofit is nice...this one is very clean...actually looks oem...your tsx retrofits are a little iffy...just my opinion ... but well done :)
LightWerkz 11-13-2006 08:39 AM

Yes the new lens are fresnel. Quality is grea though....

Can you explain what you mean by iffy? I suppose its all personal preference as far as colors go....I just do want the customer wants, thats the whole point :)
white-shadow 11-13-2006 09:27 AM

iffy meaning like the projector and shroud was stuck in there... i guess the s2000 retrofit looks better because you painted the shroud -> it doesn't give away the gaps as easy because it's so dark in there... Hope you get what i mean... still good job :)

LightWerkz 11-13-2006 11:16 AM

Ohh gotcha. You just like the overall color options for the s2k retrofit better. I can do that with either projector setup, its mainly preference as mentioned before.

Could be worse, there could be no shroud ;)
jezzy 11-13-2006 11:52 AM

Great job ! Looks fantastic..! How's the S2k projector housing compared to a TSX one? larger? smaller?
LightWerkz 11-13-2006 11:59 AM

Thank you!

The actual lens is the same size. The new 06's have a fresnel lens, as seen on some of the new 06 models out there....

The tsx is easier to work with, since the s2000 projector needs ALOT of modifying to fit in the reflector.

I will post some pictures are night soon...

Nicely done! That looks sweet!! Maybe I shoulda gone with s2k's? :p
Mars_D 11-13-2006 07:45 PM

That's some great work, and possibly the first ever s2k retrofit for a Subaru.

Here is the first on a Saabaru...

tacomaprime 11-13-2006 07:46 PM

So after the retrofit, how do the lights plug into your stock harness?
blitzjza80 11-13-2006 09:03 PM

Genius...
Daishi00 11-13-2006 09:47 PM

See if you can find a thread in the electrical and lighting forum on PIAA turn signals. The one I'm thinking of is for japanese PIAA LED turn signals. The guy says what ohm resistor you need in it.

BTW...that is EXACTLY what I want to do to my WRX...S2K HID's are the ****

Can you PM me an approximate cost for the housings/bulbs/ballasts you'd use in this situation so I can start to budget for them and your work :)
LightWerkz 11-13-2006 11:20 PM
So after the retrofit, how do the lights plug into your stock harness?
Its fully plug and play. I use the OEM STi HID kits.
LightWerkz 11-13-2006 11:22 PM

Oh its been pouring around here so now on the car shots yet, but I hope tmrw night...

Blk_on_Blk_Wgn 11-14-2006 12:52 AM

Can you post some shots of the back of the housing??? looks great BTW
Its fully plug and play. I use the OEM STi HID kits.
But what about if you don't have an STI. I am still confused. Sorry.
sevendhappy 11-14-2006 03:48 AM

More pics please Caesar. :) S2k retro....freakin' shweet.
Bishop 11-14-2006 03:58 AM
But what about if you don't have an STI. I am still confused. Sorry.
No problem! I source out the STI HID kits so it all fits up like it would from the factory :)
That's some great work, and possibly the first ever s2k retrofit for a Subaru.
Nice.

A member here (andivic) did one for his GC and I ended up buying them from him. So I have a set but not my handiwork since I'm all thumbs.

Do you find that the fresnel lenses limit the amount of light output?
amukaoen 11-14-2006 05:40 PM

got to love the S2000 and their LAZER SHARP cutoff.

Nice work there Caeser
redrex2002 11-14-2006 06:12 PM

hey have you ever done anything with the bugeye headlights i didnt see anything on your site or can you do anythiing with them? hell if you would like to try, maybe after christmas ill send you a pair i buy off ebay.
LightWerkz 11-14-2006 06:43 PM

I dont think the fresnel lens' emit less light, the cutoff is different though. Lots of the "hid fanatics" go for the clear lenses....we'll see, I cant see it being worse...

No Bug-eyes just yet, give me some time!
vtecTHIS 11-14-2006 07:07 PM

sickness. the black on gunmetal is a little wierd, would of just kept it one color personally, but it's a nice little touch :D hey do you sell just the lens part of an 04/05 headlight(the clear front part) ? i need to replace my chipped up ones, but don't want to buy an entire headlight. pimp ass work as usual. as soon as i get my hands on some tsx projectors i'm hitting you up
LightWerkz 11-14-2006 08:22 PM

I wish subaru sold lens' seperatly....unfortunetly they dont.

FYI I can source out all the materials as I do for most people.

About the colors.....it is different...maybe weird to you? To me too! But hey....we can't all be the same ya know?

LightWerkz 11-14-2006 09:30 PM

Heres some output shots after I aimed them tonight...

Notice how intense and sharp it is? :)
