Why not just get an STi scoop?

well for one, that was my first try, so stop being a d1ck, and two it's now re-done (re glassed and painted the same color as my car) good lord, you'd think people would give positive thoughts and atleast suggestions, not be outright jerks
this also coming from some hillbilly that goes flying down a road that he doens't know and litereally ****s up his car by hitting a bump and ruining it, atleast my mistake was easily fixable and less than 10 dollars... woot way to go
and for why not get an STi scoop, this is just a fun project and a different custom job and a slightly different look for the fun of it
disaster999 yours looks awesome, my suggestion with paint prep is to do 100 grit, 200, some more lighter grits then wetsand with 800 and higher i did that with my wing risers and they are smooth and good looking! :) nice job!

innovate, not imitate. it's the innovators that are creative at trying their own thing that actually make it in life. good job on it dude.

this is a project for composites class. i get credit for my work, try my hands at molding, cost a fraction of the STi scoop, it looks cool, i could show it off, keep me off the streets and off the drugs at night...etc etc
i say why not?
i say why not?

There were only like 3 people that didnt like it, including me... chill out about it. I dont like the style of the bugeye, are you going to hate on me for that too?... people dont always have to agree on what looks good, as long as you like it who cares

Dragicon i don't mind if you hate how it looks or says it looks uneven but when someone says that i ****ed up my car and it looks horrible like p8baller07 that's just uncalled for, especially from a guy that just joined this month, maybe if it was from member number 1-2000 that would be ok, maybe even funny lol but no man i know it's uneven and that's why i redid mine since then, i'll take criticism, not BS and hating, i totally accept people's opinion when it's modest and helps me do better and create something to look good, just those people that only get on to hate and not have any respect
so now if anyone else has done this or been inspired let's see some other examples :) and no more complaining and being mean

I think all of you are good. I've homemade items before, not to save the money, but because I wanted to. Very nice!
| Blackboxracing | 05-23-2006 01:02 AM |
i plan on making a mini one over the intake and cutting a hole in the hood. I think this is a good idea, especialy since i have a Co2 ic cooler. I could make it by buying som1's old wrx scoop and cutting it to be very small, or complete fab if that wont wrk. what do you guys think
| clbd39 | 05-23-2006 11:02 AM |
that could also work, but i guess that would take away from a lot of air not only being sucked in but the flow of the air that circulates under the hood, i would be a little worried about that...
i read somewhere about how the hood of a WRX is made not only for looks but for functional air circulation, which is why some peole have probs with the reverse scoop hoods, maybe this is all just a bunch of hooey also but you do have the co2 spray so that could help a bunch also, just wondering about the heat disipation...
but then again some people with front mounts go scoopless... so maybe it does nothing ;) lol
post some pics when you're done though blackbox

+1 for doing it yourself. what matters is that you're learning something. even if it never goes on your car, you'll still have the knowledge that you can apply to other projects.
| disaster999 | 05-23-2006 05:11 PM |
definately learned a great deal!
1) it sucks major ass if fiber glass gets on you
2) its not as easy as it seams
3) undried epoxy and polyester resin dont go well. mine still havent cured, dont thing it ever will anytime soon

lol i've been fiberglassing for a little over a year so it DOES get easier :) keep trying, practice makes perfect with this!
a suggestion to help in the curing stage would be to place a heater about a foot away and get a nice even heat over it, heat helps cure the chemical reaction quicker

Here's a question - how do you get the fibreglass to stick to the base? Do you have to fold it over the underside? Does it just bond itself to the plastic?

you cant fold it over the edge cause it would make the edges to thick. you use like 60-80 grit on th parts you going to put the fiberglass on.

ya..i know it would cure faster, but i guess the resin is shot for me. the chemical compositing of the polyester is probably screwed by the epoxy.
ill make another one since i have the resources to do it now, just gotta take it slow this time.

Great fabrication skills.......

lol this is all a learning process, about getting it to stick.. the fiberglass and resin stick to plastic pretty well, just have to make sure you sand it well in the end and if you use bondo do a nice thin layer and it should come out nice ;)
