I can't think of any words to adequately describe it, so here's the picture:

That's CamaroFS34 (Karen) driving.
Oh, and ummm... Tom, how about keeping the elbow inside the car? Mmmkay? Thanks...

That front wheel is aaaaalmost off the ground :)
I still can't figure out why I have all that body roll with the 400lb front springs and 24mm swaybar.

Looking good Tom! So now are you going to sell it and get a Type-R? :D
Karen, how do you compare his car now to how mine was last year, now having driven both of them?
Tom, now do you 'see' why I'm going with my setup next year? ;)

It's suuperdooper top secret and for $24.95 I will share my thoughts. :D

My thoughts exactly (I'm no expert though).
Pretty cool. I want to see that tire off the ground next time!
Tom,
Have you had the car corner weighed? I don't know if that would help with body roll though.
Have you had the car corner weighed? I don't know if that would help with body roll though.
nope. It really shouldnt. I was going to wait for the corner weighing until february in florida. The SCCA has corner scales that they use to weight the MOD cars to make sure they meet weight. If you know the person working inpound, you can cornerweigh the car for free using those.
KC is going for the theory of balancing the car using high spring rates and almost eliminate the swaybars. I went for the lower spring rate and bigger bars to keep the ride sort of comfy. 400lbs is not soft though dammit! Car still shouldnt roll that much.
I wonder if I should get the whiteline front bar endlinks. The stock sedan front endlinks are pretty decent, but mine might have some "damage" front being taken on and off constantly last year. Also, the whiteline bar I have now is one of the ones they are redesigning because these "move back and forth". Would the bar moving back and forth a bit cause it not to work as well?

Tom,
With a swaybar isn't it's purpose to remain stiff and transfer weight from one side of the car to the other? If it is not remaining impartial to loads placed upon it (i.e. its moving under load) then I would think that it is not functioning entirely as it shoud.
edit: Have you asked whiteline just what specific advantages their new bar can offer over their old bar other than the "moving back and forth" problem?

Seriously though, I hadn't autocrossed since Nationals, and the day before that pic was taken, I was instructing in an F150 Lightning. So, my perspective may be a little skewed. :) I was talking to Tom about this, however, and your car definitely felt too soft with the setup I drove. I'm not sure, however, how much difference the fact that it's a wagon makes -- the other STX WRX I've driven (elgorey's) happens to be a sedan too, and so now I'm starting to wonder how much of a role the body style makes with the handling. I was starting to feel a little more confident with your car on the second day of the Pro Finale, and beginning to toss it around more, but just from what I'm remembering, it wasn't quite as responsive to the "tossing" as Tom's was (of course, after my first two runs, we needed to tone down some of the oversteer). I wasn't driving your car hard enough though, since I was still gunshy after Peru.
I'm guessing you're going to go to a stiffer setup with the shocks and maybe the springs too?
Karen

Two interesting (and very differnet) methods. I guess it really depends on your driving style. I wonder how the high spring rates with almost no sway bars will react to weight transfer (or the lack of). It will be cool to see how you both maintain "traction" under braking and turning with such different setups.

I can see driving to an event with the tires set at 15psi for a 'comfy' ride. :D Forget about a 'padded non-reclining seat'... I'll want an inflatable/waterfilled one.

Those guys don't need traction under braking and turning. Braking only slows you down. :)
PS- will be interesting to see how those aggressive setups work on true street rubber, ie KC's ultra-high springrates and Tom's current setup

Try loosing some weight off of the car, and loosing the passanger, and taking another pic :p

here's a pic of mine for comparison if you want.
I had about a 170 pound passenger in the car at the time and the car is on JIC coilovers. 8kg front 6 kg rear with all the Cusco bracing and stabi bars set at max. Running 225 Ecsta V700 on stock rims

It seems that 400lb springs on a 3200lb car are really not that stiff and I *should* be getting body roll.
I was thinking about lowering the car a bit, but realized that if I do lower it much more, I might be hitting the bumpstops, which would not be good at all. So my "fix" with this will be to use the ol' ziptie tie trick to see how far away I am from the bumpstops and lower the car half that distance.
