Shaved handles part 1

Shaved handles

Anyone have a shaved door handle kit, just wondering how well they work. If anyone has any pictures or a link to some pictures i'd really appreciate it.
bratmantlz 02-27-2001 09:19 PM

Pinoy 02-27-2001 10:56 PM

thanks, new pics to come up as soon as tthe rain stops
WRXwannbe 02-27-2001 11:05 PM

lol, how do you get in! thats so weird looking and slick
ChosenWon 02-28-2001 12:51 AM

I vote that car as the most posted pic that has ever been on this board. You know your car is popular when other people post pics of your car (same pic too) more than you do!

BTW, love the car...
Revrend 02-28-2001 03:24 AM

I plan on shaving the handles on my wagon as soon as I can pick one up.
Bankheist 02-28-2001 05:06 AM

So how in the hell do you get into the car?
Safir 02-28-2001 05:19 AM

Bankheist - ther are actuators wired to the keyless entry so taht when it unlocks the doors it pulls the release as well, then springs push it open a little, like remote trunk releases.
Pinoy 02-28-2001 09:49 AM

Safir's got it right. Thats how I get in. Most posted pic LOL. Thanks. The handles are only noticeable when people are looking for it. Then when they realize they're not there, people are like dayammmnnn. heheheh. Its funny when I'll pop them open next to somebody getting into the car next to mine. It scares the ***** out of them. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img] I also open them so that they are more aware of not dinging my car. Man I hate that. I usually park next to a curb or towards a corner of the lot so that I can lean more towards one side. I hate when people take 2 spots. Its kinda asking for ding.

Waiting for the rain to stop, I am itching to show off the new front end.

From my research, if you are planning on painting the car anyways, as i suspect pinoy was, and are willing to do the actual install yourself, you can have a kit for under $300, plus a little for the bodywork to fill the hole where the handle was, so $400-$500 installed... plus paint if needed. am i in the ballpark P?
chuckles 02-28-2001 10:59 AM

I was quoted 1200 to do my coupe. I figure i'll wait till I can add a full paint job with it.
Marc Sawaya 02-28-2001 01:59 PM

Or you could just send me a pic of your car and I'll Photoshop the handles out and you can tell everyone you did it = ). Great color on that car, btw.

Yeah Safir is right about buying a kit and doing it yourself. There are kits made by autolock. If you have a 3CH alarm in your car you are already halfway there. All you need are the poppers and solenoids. Should be no more than $100.00. If you pay more than that you are getting jacked.

As far as body work goes, thats up to whomever you bring it too. Mine were done for $150.00 on top of a new paint job etc.etc. Make sure the body shope uses fiberglass over and underlays where the handle use to be or in time it will etch out.

Wow $1200.00 ??? Thats a whole lotta chips. Does that include a paint job for the whole car plus the shaving and the kit? If so good price. If not, use the money to buy something else. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
Bankheist 02-28-2001 06:40 PM

Like I said before... how in GOD'S name do you open the car???
ChosenWon 02-28-2001 07:16 PM

Um, dude, like he said. He hits the open/unlock key on his key fob, and the doors pop open an inch or two. I would love to see the looks on peoples faces when they go to get a ride from you and they reach for the handdle and realize it's not there. A look to the left, a look to the right, a step back, and finally a befuddled look to the now giggleing driver.

Or better yet, get in like normal, and when they are standing there dumbfounded, get out and say, "What?"
"Dude, you don't have any door handles!"
What?! You mean those bastards got me again?!" hehehe
Pinoy 02-28-2001 07:36 PM

yeah thats pretty much it. The look on their faces. especially when I take it to the car wash. gets em everytime.
Bankheist 02-28-2001 07:43 PM

ha ha ha .... chosenwon [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
chuckles 02-28-2001 08:24 PM

no pinoy, thats for all the work to do the handles alone. I'm in the North east, not a lot of body shops do that around here. I think i'll have to drop it off in jersey or somethin
Pinoy 02-28-2001 09:12 PM

Wow, sorry to hear that chuckles. Its probably better to go somewhere else as you said. Good luck to ya
Safir 03-01-2001 04:30 AM

Yeah pinoy, 100-ish for the kit from autoloc... i just couldnt remember autoloc's website for the life of me, so i priced a complete kit from dakota digital for that post. I assume you're happy with autoloc's product?
dada21 03-01-2001 07:24 AM

gotta listen to pinoy about using fiberglass where the old handles used to be. i had this done to my old pickup a few years back, and i added onto the contract that the shop would be held liable for up to 2 years if it would etch itself out. within 6 months it did, and when i went to the shop they tried to fight the contract change i made, until i showed them that the manager signed off on it. so they had to redo everything pretty much because it was an ugly mess. the guy who bought my truck in 1997 says that the handles still work great and haven't etched out at all, and this is probably 6 years after i had them installed.

it was around $1000 at the time, but i know i can get it done for less than $500 now for 2 doors. the only problem is i have a wagon, so that means 5 doors to shave, and i can be it would be closer to $1500 for that. i'd love to shave all 4 doors AND my trunk door, but its more work than i'd want to put into the car. i think it would look great, but the 5 channel remote i need would be a pain heh.
t.rod 03-01-2001 07:30 AM

Wow that look good.
I think I'm going to start by shaving the antanna.
Pinoy 03-01-2001 08:11 AM

I fortunately had an alarm system with all the required channels needed, so I din't get the autolock kit. Just got the required extras and took it to my buddies sound shop and he wired it all up.

Yeah, all doors shaved would look really nice. Theres an accord I see around town that has all 4 doors and the trunk shaved. Just looks that much cleaner on an already nice ride.
Otaku 03-02-2001 01:49 PM

The question I would have is: What if the battery dies, or you lose the fobs. Then what, how the hell do you get into your car?

Otaku
Pinoy 03-02-2001 01:58 PM

i click my heals 3 times and say "i wish i was in my car, i wish i was in my car." or break the window. heheheh.

j/k there is a safety built in the car so if the remote dies, car battery dies, i just connect it to 1.5 volt power source and butta bing, butta bang... the driver door pops open. didn't think i'd lock myself out now did ya?
