sti badges? part 1

Butt Dyno 04-13-2002 05:10 PM

sti badges?

just wondering people's opinions on the little sti badges for the front of the car. they look nice, but is it really all that different than the type-R badges on non-type-R cars? after all, your car isn't really an sti... just kickin ideas around.

random thought :)

I kind of agree with that. But I suppose that if you have some genuine STi parts, its legitimate.
neurotic 04-13-2002 06:30 PM

Indeed.
MattDell 04-13-2002 07:25 PM

As long as it isn't an STI Type RA badge then it's fine, especially since it stands for Subaru Technica International and doesn't stand for a certain type of vehicle.
KwanDDS 04-13-2002 07:46 PM

Hmm, interesting point.
:D
Astrocreep2000 04-13-2002 07:57 PM

Yeah since STi Makes parts then I think it's ok to put the badges on, it's just like putting an AEM or Stromung Decal on your car if you use their parts.
Bauhaus 04-13-2002 08:51 PM

this was going around in OT not too long ago.

I think its kinda weak. I mean if you have STi parts and stuff i can see having somthing that says STi...but the front grill badge is a little much if you ask me. And I'm always right so....
2yLiTe 04-14-2002 08:22 PM

I've got a pair of the STI side badges sitting on a shelf in my room... I just haven't gotten around to putting them on the car...

So someone's got badges, big deal! When I was in Japan, I picked up a genuine GC8 WRX trunk sticker... I'll eventually put it on when the weather gets nice. Who cares? I know I don't have a WRX, I just like the way the sticker looks on my car. :)

it seems whenever the summer season starts, this topic comes out of the woodwork. sheesh.. aren't there other things worth posting about?
2yLiTe 04-14-2002 08:32 PM

oh..and if you want to get technical...

The STI badges really only appear on one type of Impreza... the 22B.

oooh... are those people that sport the titanium badges trying to say that their cars are 22B's?????????

Last year, I showed my car at a couple major shows.. and it was decked out with a full 555 livery sticker package. Is my car an authentic SWRT car? c'mon... a 2.5 RS?? let's get real. But I figured that most people will never ever see a car done up like that... so I did it. What happened?

Pictures of the car showed up in the Toronto Star, National Post, and a few other import magazines... it was all done in fun. I usually sit by my car at these shows... and everyone was taking pictures of it... I would guess that it was because it looked kinda neat.

Let's put this one to rest shall we? everyone knows that stickers don't do squat to enhance the performance of a vehicle.. not to mention that we've been over this several hundred times..
Butt Dyno 04-14-2002 08:58 PM

the search function is back... yay!

i only asked because i thought they were nice touches. i'm not really sure that it's on the same magnitude as the type-R thing, as long as you actually have some sti stuff in your car. but i'm not judging anyone or anything, i was just curious what folk thought and at the time i couldn't search...

*thinking blue badge on front of black car*

thanks for the feedback

how i see it is...

type r = is a model... rs, ls, gs, gsr, type-r

there is no tuning conpany called type-r

sti = a tuning conpany designed for subaru...

sti is kinda like mugen...

i mean, if you had a integra and had a mugen parts, its not wrong to put a mugen sticker there is it?
dRu888 04-15-2002 12:18 AM

this has beened argued quite a lot of times

Now what about people sticking type-r conversions(like the bumper, skirts.etc..) on their integ LS...would you call that "rice"?

if thats so...what do you call V5 lips, spats, and wings on our 2.5RSs? hmm? Or the Sti grill/fog light covers/lights/spoiler people stick on their WRXz?

Who cares, if it looks nice then knock urself out, just don't plaster giant stickers of who makes your car or fake emblems saying your car is something that it isnt

basically it comes down with what YOU feel looks best for your car.

I have a pink STI emblem and 22b vents, shoot me.;)
M E R C U R Y 04-15-2002 12:24 AM

if having the part justifies putting a sticker then all stock rs can put calsonic on the car cuz it the radiator IIRC.

then you can also put clarion.

SammyDFG 04-15-2002 03:50 AM

if you have spent a good amount of money on STi parts, then a badge would be ok
INeedWRX 04-15-2002 05:15 AM

So what???

Ok??? Ask yourself a question. Does your car look better with the sti Badge on it or not? If it does, put it on. If it doesnt, dont. After all it is your car isnt it. For all anybody cares you can smash your windscreen in and drive around without one if you think it looks better ( i dont think the cops would like that though).

Pink Badges Look Like Crap *doesn't care he just alienated 76% of I-Club*
2yLiTe 04-15-2002 07:46 AM

All this talk about decals, badges, etc...

I've got quite a few STI goodies in my car, but to be honest with you, even if I didn't I'd probably still put the badges on. I think that it's pointless to harbour that "I wonder if he's got any STI parts on that car!" attitude.. suddenly there's a moral issue with dressing up your car?!?!?!

And if you did see a car with "unjustified" decals or badging, it could be worse!! if you feel that it's wrong... imagine if it was your car!!... the point is, it's NOT your car. So instead, just worry about whether or not your spring rates are ok, if your intercooler is getting enough air, if the ground wire mod really works, or if you're gonna sell your 17"s for 18"s.

c'mon fellow members, let's stop this bickering. I guess the next stop is the grocery line reading tabloid papers.... ("not that there's anything wrong with that") sheesh!

Next topic: "I don't like gold rims on blue cars!"

Is there a moderator in the house??????

is that why you're rolling in a mazda?
Frederf 04-15-2002 10:25 PM

I'm not "rolling" in my Mazda... but it is rather pretty now *claybar, wax, etc). The reason I don't have a WRX yet is a slight (read: 5K) gap between what the Mazda is worth and what a WRX would cost w/ tax. I will have it soon, and it won't have a pink badge.

Saying a pink badge looks good is like saying the Japanese have good taste.

I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to express my opinion strongly.
