It looks like you might need the arms too...not sure. At least the new arms come un-splined, so they might work. Surely there's got to be a way of using the Subaru arms.
GMTarkin 09-02-2003 11:17 PM

Oh wow
Damn!, i didnt know someone made these, i know the new porsche cayannes come with them, and they are amazing wipers, the best part is, since they arent metal or hinged, in the winter, they wolnt ice over... they are really great wipers, now that i know you can buy em aftermarket, i minght get a set
aspera 09-03-2003 05:49 AM

Yeah, I'd like to do this right before winter and say goodbye to frozen wipers forever.:D
eastcoastbumps 09-03-2003 08:04 PM

Could these be the same as the VW Euro wipers seen on the W8 and Bora?

The VW guys were making quite the fuss. I thought it was just for looks.

Well, being a VW guy for 10 years before my WRX, I can attest that Bosch is no joke when it comes to superior products. I'd like to get some... gonna start looking for some and will post what I can find.

UPDATE
I called around and then made a trip to Baron Volkswagen today. The Mercedes parts guy made me almost choke. He wanted $75 for a wiper blade. The BMW guy was was just confused.:D The VW parts guy quoted me $38 for a Passat blade and $38 for a wiper arm. Only the blade was in stock.

The Toureg was the only VW that I saw that had these Aero wipers.

Now, I had to order the arm because of the way that the blade mounts. It mounts on a pin, but is held in place by a tab on the arm. If you lift the wiper from the glass you can remove the blade with one hand. It doesn't even snap on or off. I forsee lots of wiper theft due to the price of these.:(

I'm hoping that the arm works. It should come unsplined, but might not be long enough. If I'm lucky it will bolt right on. I'm hoping VW and Subaru use the same size of metric stud. The wiper blade itself is about the same length as the Subaru one, so that's good.

The part # for the Passat driver's blade is 3B1-955-425 WIPERBLADE
The part # for the Passat driver's wiper arm is 3B-955-409C WIPER ARM
Notice that the wiper arm ends in "C". There was also a "B" version listed. I don't know what the difference is between them.

I noticed that different wiper arms and blades were used on different sides of different vehicles. These things seem to be custom set up for each application. For instance, the passenger side Passat blade was longer on one side. The pivot wasn't in the center of the blade! Thanks Bosch! :furious

Now I have to find the exact combination of oddball parts instead of just asking for a 17",18", or 19" blade etc.
aspera 09-03-2003 10:45 PM

I just noticed that Aerotwin blades come in RHD and LHD versions too!

They are also mode in Belgium. I didn't know Belgium made anything.
west_aust 09-03-2003 10:47 PM

i must admit that these wipers works very well on my mom's cayenne

if it fits on the impreza, that could be a great addition
aspera 09-03-2003 10:50 PM

What US cars have these wipers?
Passat
Toureg
Cayenne
? some Mercedes
aspera 09-03-2003 11:00 PM

The Bosch website says that these models get tailor made blades:
Audi A3, Audi A4, VW Passat, VW Beetle, Mercedes S Class, BMW 5 Series

"Since its presentation in 1999, the new wiper has enjoyed great success. Meanwhile, cars of the brands Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Renault, Ford, Skoda and Seat have been fitted with the new wiper blade."

How about a universal adapter Bosch? Don't you want to offer your product to the entire US market? People replace wiper blades everyday in Walmart and K Mart parking lots.

Well, I guess. They both help you see better if that's what you mean.
GMTarkin 09-05-2003 10:41 AM

I really would like to know more about this, i want a pair really bad now, the regular wipers suck ASS.. =/
superg 09-05-2003 09:30 PM

Not so sure about these
I went to my local VW dealer and checked out the aerotwin blades. First issue is that the arms and blades are very different in size from the WRX, both the Passat and Touareg ones. I question whether the Passat will provide correct wiper coverage.

Second, when I went into the Parts dept., the Parts Manager said you DON'T want these. In addition to the expense of the wipers, he said they screech really badly. I guess they have had lots of complaints from Passat owners.

Still, the design looks good and they may function well in the winter. let us know how they are, guys.

I'm planning on putting this on my MR2 first, for practice. The MR2 wiper is old and rusted. I'm going to update it with the Bosch Aerotwin unit (single wiper).

It appears that the WRX has an unusually long driver's side wiper arm. I doubt that VW has any cars like this. WRX also has a much longer wiper for the driver. It looks like Bosch needs to start supporting this product in the U.S. The BoschUSA website doesn't even show the Aerotwin. Without support, getting adaptors and the proper length of blades will be a chore.

I bet the Passat owners screeched louder than the wipers.
mindchatter 09-22-2003 03:53 PM

I have an '02 Passat 4Motion - don't know if these are the wipers that came stock, but can say w/o a doubt that they work very, very well. Been thru two NE winters and are JUST starting to maybe need replacement (40k miles, 18mos.) I will say that the stock blades/wipers on my '04 STi just s*ck comparitively speaking. I'd like something quality, especially in the rain, as my STi will rarely, if ever, see snow. Anyone make any headway on this or have any other wiper options?

You make it sound like paradise. Now all it needs is a high ratio of hot, young women. Maybe they could lure some of the Swedish and French hotties with some diamonds. Chicks dig diamonds.:)

Well...I know what doesn't work. I ended up putting the wiper on my MR2 instead. Unless you could use the WRX bottom half of the wiper arm with the top half of the VW arm, I don't see how it would turn out very sano.

Has anybody ever removed the pin where the wiper arm pivots? If you could remove that pin...mate the two halves together (with luck, or washers)...and then put in a new pin (maybe a cheap clevis pin??), then it would look nearly factory.

Tell me how it turns out.
