sorry...i just got my new camera...i will take a picture tomrrow and post it...mine fits like a glove...
the other thing you can also do, is get the cover like the wrc cars have...its almost a suede-ish material, it reduces the glare off the dash as well...
i cant remember the name of the guy on here that has that one, but mine will be up tomrrow

I saw the post already but it seems a lot of work to remove the dash. I would be interested in what the guy did though but I hope to find a better easier solution.

Very well fitted for its price. It's not as horrendous as I thought it would be.
| mosqito16 | 07-13-2004 02:20 AM |
Ya...I was against it at first too. But, I was convinced that it would better than having a cracked dash, so I went for it, and am glad that I did...
Although, that sueded one is mighty tempting.

yea..that's kinda gross

That isn't bad looking- not great, but not like shag carpeting. What happens if the passenger airbag goes off- is there a section fitted to break free?
| e28fixer | 07-13-2004 10:35 AM |
I expect the airbag would have zero difficulty deploying and pushing that piece of material out of the way. Keep in mind it pushes a hard plastic panel out of the way when it deploys from the dash. The units in the seats also tear through stitching that easily stands up to repeated ingress/egress by passengers. The velcro or double-sided tape used to secure this cover to the dash doesn't stand a chance.

But it could affect the angle that the airbag deploys.

Not a chance. There are cases of airbags decapitating occupants sitting too close to the dash. Considering that amount of force, there is absolutely no way a piece of material attached via velcro to the dash is going to deflect or inhibit the airbag in any way.

By "out of the way" do you mean "into the passenger's face" ?
I don't know for certain, but I would imagine that the passenger ABS panel is possibly hinged on the side closest to the windshield, and so it flips up and out of the way upon deployment of the airbag. In this situation, if the airbag still was able to deploy, it looks like from the way the carpet wraps around the entire front of the dash, it would throw the carpet right into the face of the passenger.
Also, for the side impact airbags, they actually use a different weight thread (lighter weight) that allows the side airbag to break through, not to mention, the side airbags are specifically designed to break through the seat, whereas the front airbags are designed for a different deployment scenario.
That said, it really looks like a quality dash cover, and $40 is an amazing price. I didn't think you could get a custom anything for that much. I'm not trying to be a party pooper, but to look out for ya. It might be something you might want to look into -- the consequences might be lethal. Also, it might be the target of insurance money denial should there be an accident with personal injury. If you must have the carpet, maybe you want to disable the airbag, which might be good for preventing any issues with the carpet flying at you, but still leaves open the insurance thing and a less crashworthy car.

Possibly. You make a good point though I doubt serious injury would result from a slap in the face by a piece of material.

Regardless of the thread weight and deployment design, the side bolsters take quite a bit of abuse without seam failure. Yet the airbags easily tear through them when deployed.

Good points again. Please don't disable your airbag though. Being slapped in the face with a piece of material is much better than your face slamming into the dash or windshield... regardless of the insurance issues.

The dash cover should have a cut out, so that there is a small slot for the air bag to push through.

I got it from a place called "The Dash Glove" in Rialto, Ca....PM me for further info...i would have to search for the address, phone number, etc.

Might want to try Dash Designs for another option. It looks like they offer essentially the same product for about the same money.
