Cover up for front license plate holes
I'm lucky to be in one of the states that doesn't require a front license plate. So what can I do to cover up those ugly Frankenstein holes in the front bumper? I've seen the front bumper trim at http://www.autospeedperformance.com but this looks like overkill and a bit flashy for my taste.
Anything subtle and easy?

Plastic plugs from a hardware store painted to match. I think the holes are like 3/8"

The front plate off a SRTUSA car would be nice.

not really homemade. I know those guys and from what I know that was the first one to test fit and every thing. They are machined on a cnc lathe and are beautiful in person. Thats my cars rear wheel in the one picture:D I love my B4 wheels. they make a few other parts to dress-up the car for now, but they make stuff for turbo audi's and the performance stuff that I saw for those cars was very impressive.

Tell your friend he should make a black one that has "IMPREZA" in white. That'd look rather well on a black GDA.
| Kwyjibo | 10-22-2002 08:06 PM |
I would buy a black one with WRX on it....but not if it has the company logo on it....
If I wanted to advertise for them I would expect it for free :)

You're forgetting about the GDA Impreza owners, Kwyjibo. All GDAs aren't WRXes.

Not forgotten :)
its just that I would rather have one that says WRX than one that says Impreza on it

I'm interested. Either plain or perhaps SUBARU on it.

MAD REX,
Thanks for the pics. That "front bumper trim" from Autospeed Performance really looks good!

I got one of those plate on my silver rex from ebay, looks sweet as hell since the aluminum plate match the body. The company logo on it looks kinda funny (one each on the left and right ) but I guess I would have to live with it. Anyway, I am glad that the four bigo holes is coverd up now:cool:

You can always just go to Homedepot or Lowes and get plastic plugs that fit in the holes. Just add a little paint and there ya go.
| CirrusWRX | 02-23-2003 06:58 PM |
Whoever said "chrome" is a moron  - it's aluminum, man!
Anyway, I just got one of these, and I love it on my silver sedan. Covers up the holes nicely, and while you can hardly notice it during the day, when the sun starts to go down, it looks very nice. Not tremendously "bling bling" IMO, as it's not very reflective, since it's brushed (IT'S NOT CHROME DAMMIT!! :D ). Install took all of 1.6 minutes (1.5 of them taking the time to find a damned screwdriver!)
fit perfectly and covered up the holes - works for me.

2 Options for this, since I live in NY I am in the same situation.
1. Put the aluminum plate over the license plate, it shouldn't reach down to the letters.
2. Go w/ no plate. You prolly won't get busted for it, my friend's GTi 337 doesn't even have holes for the front plate.
3. Do #2, but take a pic of your car with the front plate on it first. Then when you get a ticket, send in that pic. I know someone who has a front mount and no front plate and he get's lots of tickets for it. He has many copies of that pic, and just sends it in every time.

I have one of these bumber trims that are pictured above, that has never been installled. If anyone is interested in buying it, PM me. Thanks

Or! Hopefully if it's legal, just do what my friend did to his mustang. He got the Cobra R front bumper and therefore, didn't have the plate holes. So he decided to put his front license plate in between the interior dashboard and the inner windshield of the passenger side. So far, he said cops have looked at him funny but have never ticketed him for having his license plate over there instead of the front bumper. This is in California though and he does live in a small town. So I don't know if these laws may be suitable elsewhere in the U.S.
Btw, that WRX looks purplish to me! Maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks or maybe it's just the photo shot. Either way, purple ain't too bad on a WRX!

Gen III Acura Integras have the same problem. All Acura dealers carry plastic plugs for the holes in body colors. Check those guys out for a nice clean cover (my wagon is white, so it was an easy fit; WRB may be a problem).
My local Acura dealer gave them to me for free. It's clean and unobtrusive.
Pictures tomorrow if you're interested.
FWIW.

Here's my solution to the problem. I shaved everything

now THAT is the way the damned things should come from the factory!! awesome job dude - looks perfect.

you had to repaint the entire front bumper for that right? I have a white wrx, and I want to get rid of the front plate too, but I'd rather have a black spacer than the aluminum one....but the shaved look is the best :)

You do have to repaint the whole thing. Plus, the plastic is very thin, which makes it a bit of a pain. Worth every penny IMHO.

I think this bumper trim looks great! It's as subtle, as it gets and very easy to install. Incidentally, the guys at AutoSpeed are great and have an excellent line of Imprezza accessories.
Drive safe,
