Canada is by far the best place to have it. Charlevoix is pretty much there, it just needs the WRC classification. The US is too lawyer/sue friendly for a WRC event.

I'd like to see a tarmac event personally, maybe somewhere in PA, New England (lots of cities/customers) or even around "The Dragon" in SC and Tennesee. For a American audience, a tarmac event might be more appealing considering even most SUV and truck owners panic at the thought of driving through a mud puddle.
For dirt or gravel, out west would provide more open territory as well as some spectacular scenery that would be uniquely American, give it that flavor so when you see the event on TV you know almost right away yeah thats the American WRC event.

Mmmm, mountains of NW Carolina (Dragon) & East Tennesse (Chattanooga), mix of tarmac & gravel, plus probably some of the most technical drives and great views in the U.S. Not very populated either...miles and miles af gravel forest roads!

I think you should re-name this the "geographic disperstion of motorsports folks" thread, since just about everyone's going to vote for the region closest to them :)

You could easily support a tarmac rally in the dragon area of NC/Tennessee, and you wouldn't have to run the same stage 5 times either. But they aren't going to start off with a brand new event as a WRC rally.
If there is a WRC event in NA, it's going to be in Mexico. The Corona rally has a huge international sponsor, has great organization, fits a WRC rally for format/length perfectly, etc. That and they had a top level WRC team run it last year who gave great reviews of it.

we arent ready for that yet....

Mainly, within driving distance for me :) Seriously, I have yet to hear anything bad about Canadian events, and plenty of good. Certainly all the NE guys rave about the Quebec events they compete in...

Actually, I've heard it argued that it's the only way they COULD have a WRC rally in the States; that is, to make it a brand new rally. Established rallies carry too much excess baggage which would get in the way of WRC politics.

I'd vote for the Dragon if tarmac, ROTW for gravel. Personally, I think it'd be cool to have a NA rally (-vs- USA, or Canada, or Mexico) that could span one of the borders... now that'd be a logistical nightmare but fun none the less.

A US-Mexico rally isn't too hard to organize. There are a lot of places along the border to host fast gravel stages, which will be a nice replacement for the Safari. The HQ can be based in cities like El Paso, or even San Diego.
I also like a all-tarmac stage in and around a rust-belt city. Where else would be better than Detroit? Motor city, home of Ford? All the potholes around downtown will be excellent; so is going around the big industrial plants in the outskirt of the city. And run one day over in Windsor, Ontario. They will get lots of audience in both the US and Canada.

Depends upon time of year. I'd like to see one in the Owens Valley in E. California (think Rim and travel 150 miles north). Easy access to both tarmac and gravel, snow if you want. Plenty of flat sections and mountain roads. Imagine a tarmac stage on Westgard Pass and up to the Bristlecones...WOW. Hairpins galore, narrow, and an 8000 foot climb all in less than 20 miles. How about a gravel stage around the Alabama Hills?

As of '04 FIA doesnt allow mixed surface(over a certain %) rallies any more.

No SCCA event is worthy.
Have done Dragon's Back numerous times. Cool for car clubs and such but not area not large enough or accessable enough for a WRC event.
Haven't been to a Mexican rally yet but Canada beats anything the US has in terms of spectators, workers, FIA rules, sponsors and organization.
Charlevoix got low ratings this year and deserved them. If Rallye de Quebec and Charlevoix were to combine their efforts, they'd have a chance.

WRC is looking at US ( Olympic actually ) and Mexico ( Peugeot loved Mexico and indorses it [ bear in mind they have no market influence to sway them to North American rally ] ). A new tarmac seems a stretch, with the recent addition of ADAC ( I was there, it is a sick tarmac rally ), but a snow course would be welcomed. US and canada were both 'gold' choices for 2003 but lost out to Turkey, despite the luke warm initial response from WRC and the impending war *@!#*$. Mexico seems to have the strongest hand, with peugeot and suby both rallying there right now, good reviews and an infrastructure built this year specifically to woo WRC. US, Ca, Mx? Who cares!? I travel half across this globe to be at the events right now, think how accessible any of those venus would be for all of us, relatively...
