Is there such a thing as hidden hood pins?

I just got my Seibon hood and it has some wobbling to it under high speeds that I would like to have some insurance against. I started looking into hood pins. I found that most of them are really gaudy looking and way too noticable. I was wondering if there is anything that is hidden or maybe less noticable. The closest thing I could find was black hood locks. My only concearn about hood locks is that they have a big disc that sits on top of the hood. I don't know how that can really fit that well when the hood on my bugeye has a lot of contour there and it may be lifted around the edges. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Pics would be great too if anyone feels froggy. :)

get the CF ones that use a key to open, the CF would blend in, and the key hole only about 1/4 inch high above the hood

like these(just an example) they are about $20-30

I'd rather have flat black than a different weaved CF overlay. I would be better of getting Powder coated locks. Thanks for the help though. I already looked into those CF ones and they just seem cheesy to me.

i guess, they are low profile though, they dont stick out 2-3 inchs from the hood, and people cant open your hood with out the key, get the flat black ones then if they are that style.
i have a cf scoop and a few other little cf accents so these would look good on mine i think, lol
and my stock hood moves at higher speeds 80+ mostly around the scoop and rear of the hood though.

also, i thought it was a Seibon cf hood.

It is a Seibon hood. It doesn't require pins but it does have some wobble at high speeds near the rear. I wanted to be sure that nothing is going to happen. I was going to get some pins for peace of mind.

from personal experience, i strongly oppose these hood pins. going 90 on the interstate one of the bolts broke in half two months after they were drilled into the hood. not only that, but the disks around the lock scratched into the CF, and the overlays faded with the quickness.

I might be interested in getting the Top secret ones. I also need to look into those Sparco hidden ones that were listed as well. Does anyone have any pics of those?

I believe that the 'Top Secret' ones are made by this company:

Not cheap but you may want to check out w-w-w.hoodpins.c-o-m (sorry the forum won't let me post an actual URL yet - just remove the hyphens).
Hoodpins has a powder coated series.

Yes there are hidden hood pins they are called the hood latch... But if you are gonna get some hood pins get the sparcos. The only downside is they all rust over time atleast all the ones i have seen. Also some of your wobbling is because the hood latch is not adjusted right. I see this all the time in the bodyshop i work at people bring their cars in where they just bolted the hood on and let it rock. On one kids jetta it was too tight and i tcracked the hood cause he was slamming it to shut (and when i mean slamming i mean HARD). So you might also want to check into that too. Just my .02

.....velcro....
| digitalmethods | 04-17-2006 06:16 AM |
It's not my latches anyways. I used to work on cars myself and although I know what your reffering to I can assure you that the hood is on correctly. It wobbles because the thin underside isn't strong enough to support the weight of the scoop and has some flex near the scoop and not near the latch. Thanks for the input though.
......and as for the velcro.....hmmm....jk

It is recommended to run hood pins with a carbon fiber hood for safety reasons. It's not that the hood latch won't hold it, it is in case you get in a front end collision. The only thing holding your hood to the hinges are 4 small nuts in some fiber glass. In the event of a front end collision the hood pins should keep the carbon hood from shearing off of the hinges and coming through the windshield.
I have been told that by a couple stores and other people that have also heard it.

I saw an evo that was wrecked and the CF hood was destroyed just like an oem one would. No worries about it coming though the hood and such.
| coffinspire | 05-17-2006 12:13 PM |
imho, a latch held on by only fiberglass isn't secure enough. i'd rather have something physically bolted down. not saying that people who rely on just the latch will have a problem, just to me, i'd rather be safe than sorry.

I didn't say it would happen, only that it could happen.

I hear you on that. I don't want hood pins but I feel like I should get some. Either that or go back to the stock hood and forget about it.

Wait a tick, did you mean no worries about the pins coming through the hood or the hood through the windshield? You typed hood, but I thought it may have been a typo.
