Is anybody Hungary? part 1

grandpa rex 08-19-2003 02:25 PM

Is anybody Hungary?
My favorite race there was when Damon Hill almost won in an Arrows.

Anyway, here's my pix:

1. MS
2. JPM
3. Raikkonen
4. Ralfie
5. Barichello
6. Fernando
7. Trulli
8. Weber
gtguy 08-19-2003 07:24 PM

This is going to be a weird race...I can sense it. With that:

1. Alonso
2. JPM
3. KR
4. MS
5. DC
6. Trulli
7. Barrichello
8. Da Matta

I know...insanity. Qualifying is SO important at the Hungaroring, and the weather is supposed to be hot, which means Michelin time. M. Schumacher will pull out some voodoo to get as high as fourth. Alonso will fly, thrilled to find a track that suits his Renault.

Kimi will have a good race, also.

I don't think that Ralf is going to win his appeal, which means 10 places back on the grid, which means he's hosed, unless he tries something radical, like a one-stop race. Hungary is smooth, so he could run the hard Michelins and maybe pull it off.

Ah, the possibilities.

My favorite race there was definitely 1989 when Mansell came from 13th on the grid to win, including an amazing pass on Senna.

Hopefully this year's will be even half as good.

It should be hot since it always is and EU is still in that monster heat wave. This will not be good for Bridgestone so I predict a Michelin field day. But Kimi's bad luck is due for a change, conversely JPM's run of good fortunes can't last forever.

1> Kimi
2> Ralf
3> MS
4> DC
5> JT
6> CD
7> JB
8> MW
rupertberr 08-20-2003 10:25 AM

1. Trulli
2. Alonso
3. JPM
4. MS
5. KR
6. RB
7. Ralf
8. DC

Top 5 covered by 2 seconds.:D
Trulli will have the best pit stop.;)
gtguy 08-20-2003 12:00 PM

Oh, crap. Ralf won his appeal. Uh, put him where Raikkonen is, and move everybody below back one place.

1. JPM
2. Trulli
3. Ralfie
4. Kimi
5. Schumi
6. DC
7. Alonso
8. Webber
ArtGecko 08-21-2003 08:00 PM

better get this in before qualifying!

1. KR
2. FA
3. JPM
4. RB
5. JT
6. MS
7. RS
8. DC

best as I can figure it. I don't think the top teams will break or crash.

I didn't see this thread and posted in the other one...

In late, just more fun than anything...

Predictions, eh?

It's flashback time! :D

1) Kimi - His AISS (*** itch supression system) will work flawlessly, and have a trouble free run. He'll qualify second and take first before the first corner.
2) Woobins - He will be asked to move over for MS, but he will cross the finish line while flipping the bird to Jean Todt... This will be his last race for Ferrari.
3) MS - Woobins won't move over for him and he'll throw his trophy at RB while they are walking to the interview room. He'll miss and hit Ron Dennis in the back of the head instead.
4) DC - He'll be in second starting the final lap, but he'll choke like he almost always does and go off at one corner... RB and MS will pass him.
5) JPM - After going on a strict vegan diet imposed by Sir Frank, he's lost a few pounds, helping him go faster. However all the extra fiber will make him constipated, and he'll be slower because of it.
6) Alfonso - He'll make some jack-assed move and in the process take a few people out in the first lap... probably a brake-check. He'll get a drivethrough penalty, but while he's in there serving his penalty, a rogue mechanic will install a N2O system on his renault. He'll make a few places up and end up in 6th.

Ok, I can't think of anything else witty to say. I'll stop at 6...

Go Freddo! Let's just hope they have more than a couple gallons of fuel in there for the race.
AndyRoo 08-23-2003 03:09 PM

Good job Alonso, and Mark Webber continues to impress. Also, good job by Fisichella getting the hell out of Jordan for next year.
Leonardo 08-23-2003 07:19 PM

I'l just say what I've said in the past, Montoya will podium!:p

That statement has worked out for him in the last races so I'll just keep it up:banana:
AndyRoo 08-24-2003 02:15 AM

i hope he does

Alonso is starting the race...like a bat out of hell!!!

GO Alonso GO!!!!!!! wooooooohoooooooooo!!

What have Renault done their car......hopefully it will be nothing illegal.
rupertberr 08-24-2003 12:19 PM

Well done!

This championship is going down to the wire. 3 points seperate the top three.
AndyRoo 08-24-2003 12:59 PM

Wow...schumi got LAPPPED?!?!?
gtguy 08-24-2003 02:03 PM

Well, that was a pretty boring race, but Hungary usually is.

Excellent drive by Alonso. That kid...what a talent. Props to Montoya, too, for overcoming a rotten start, and getting the job done. Raikkonen pulled in a very stylish second place, and R. Schumacher...man, what a drive. From last to fourth, and you got the feeling he could have gotten past Montoya, too.

Coulthard snookered 'em all with a two-stop strategy, too. Nice.

Meanwhile, Ferrari continues to go backwards. It ain't all the Bridgestone tires, kids. Sure, Michelin gained more than a second per lap in the off season, with with the advantage that Ferrari had, and with the new car being faster than the old, they should still be at least on the pace. They aren't. Montoya almost lapped M. Schumacher at Germany, Alonso DID lap him at Hungary.

I think that the driver's championship is now between Montoya and Raikkonen. I just can't see Ferrari righting the ship in the remaining three races. They're just too far gone. Something serious is wrong with that car, because it's slow. When you look at lap times, M. Schumacher's best lap was about 1.5s slower than Montoya's best lap. Whee, doggies!

I wouldn't sign Ferrari's death certificate just yet. This team is at its best with their backs to the wall.
ArtGecko 08-25-2003 10:38 AM

Holy Smoke! I got all eight guys, but not a single one in the correct spot. Still, I got 47th out of 3900 "guesses"

Plus they love Monza, and as far as I know, think of it as their home track. Let's not forget MS still has the most victories of any driver this year. I wouldn't count them out.
Dr. WOT 08-26-2003 08:25 AM

Worse comes to worse they will devour Suzuka... cold and damp track... bridgestones... exciting title clencher. I can't wait!!! :)
gtguy 08-26-2003 12:34 PM

Believe me, I would love to see M. Schu get title no. 6, so that he can retire with a clear conscience. But given the performance disparity that is increasing, rather than decreasing, it's a difficult thing to hope for, realistically.

This, coupled with the fact that Schumacher is usually .3-.5 faster than Barrichello, but this has been reversed in recent races, means something more unsettling. Usually in the cases of a speed disparity, Schumacher will just copy Barrichello's setup, and off he goes.

Pundits suspect that the new car really favors Barrichello, with its less twitchy, longer wheelbase, than the F2002's shorter wheelbase setup.

The other thing is that if the European heat wave continues, advantage Michelin. Monza's more open specification will help Ferrari get closer to the others, to be certain. Bridgestone would be fools if they didn't have separate Monza, USGP and Suzuka-spec tyre already, particularly Suzuka, which is their test track.

But Monza really favors Williams. The USGP will be neutral ground, because the Ferrari is a aerodynamic whiz, which will negate the Williams grunt on the straightaway.

I think the title, barring any driver hoseoffs, will come down to Suzuka, which will rock. But if it comes down to Suzuka, given the fact that that track always allows the best overall package to dominate, you have to like Ferrari's chances.

Everybody right now is hoping for no DNFs these next three races. I have the same hope. I want the title to be decided on the track, rather than on the sidelines.

As an aside, I would love to see a spec tire for F1, to negate the tire manufacturer nonsense. I know that Ferrari and the other Bridgestone runners made their choice freely, and are happy to live with it (it worked so well last year, after all), but with everybody on the same tire, we see the cars and the drivers, rather than tires. Of course were that the case, who knows how different the season would have been if, say, Ferrari had been on Michelins like everyone else?

All interesting speculation, indeed.

IMO technical diversity is the name of the game. Equivlency formulas have their time and place, but its contrary to the purpose of F1. Even though my routing interests are on the downside of the right now, I love the fact that we have a tire war. It would be nice if Bridgestone could get off a shot though. :furious:

Either way the end of the season is stacking up the be a real thriller, like Bernie said: the last corner of the last lap of the last race.

When was the last time more than two drivers were in real contention with three races remaining?

Oh, I don't mean mandated tire equivalency, but my comment was more a reference to the days of one tire manufacturer.

I can't remember a season where there have been three drivers with a shot at the crown, but I don't think my memory goes back as far as that of others'.

What's even cooler is that all three are racers...that is, if a pass has to be made, they will all find a way.

AndyRoo 08-26-2003 09:17 PM

Last corner of the last lap of the last race...sounds awesome.

Of course i hate how im gonna have to hear about it in the morning, seeing it would be cool too.

More importantly, I hope the F1 pick 6 comes down to the wire!
