Modified Morrettes
I did a search but could not describe it well enough for the smart
:rolleyes: computer.
There was a thread a while back about morrettes for the WRX, and someone photoshopped a pair that had the lines smoothed out. Does anyone know which thread that was? Or does the member who did that still have the pic?
I think I want the morrettes but I hate those lines in them.
Thanks,
Mal

I know there was a lot of photochopping going on in Imprezer's WRX Headlight battle.

Not exactly
I saw this thread in my search. But the thread I'm looking for, someone took this:
[IMG]http://www.i-club.com/imprezer/bugged.jpg[/IMG]
color matched it to the body and smoothed out all the lines. If no one can find the thread, can someone photochop this for me?
Thanks,
Mal

I did something like what you are talking about awhile ago. I didn't start with Morrettes though, I made them from scratch. They ended up looking a little like them.
It's probably not exactly what you are looking for but take a look at them and let me know if they are close that maybe I can modify to your specs. If not I'll take a shot at it with the Morrettes.

Close....But
gmaki,
That's almost it. Could you modify the Morrettes for me? The thread I saw had the Morrette lights in their current location. The lines above, below, and between them were smoothed out to flow into the lines of the hood and the fender. If you could replicate that I would be grateful.
Thanks,
Mal

yet another request for gmaki ...
Gmaki,
Only been cruising the board for a month, but you seem to be the PhotoShop king. Therefore, I have a request for you that's more or less inline with this thread:
Could you do a chop shot of a WRX with Morettes and the "sport grille" that is sold in the UK, Japan and Australia? A pic of what I'm talking about is attached below.
<IMG SRC="http://www.subaru.com.au/images/parts/J1010FE010xx.jpg">
Here's a pic of the same grille with the optional side pieces (picture is low quality so they don't show up too well, unfortunately):
<IMG SRC="http://www.racebreed.com/sti/new/bump.jpg">
I definitely want this grill, but am not certain if I will get the side pieces and install the JDM projector headlamps or go without the side pieces and get Morettes. Your handiwork would really help my decision. Thanks!

War Angel, It's kinda late so I did this really quick just to see if I was on the right track. Give me feedback.
Edit: rather than use up server space posting multiple iterations, I have simply replaced this image to reflect updates requested in later posts.

darrelltx,
Maybe the king of quantity, but not of quality. There are some damn good photochoppers on this board. Anyway, I'm off to bed but I'll try to get something to you tomorrow night. If someone hasn't already done it by then.

By George I think He's got it!!!!!
Gmaki,
You are the man! Thanks for the help. I wanted a pic so I could show the body shop if and when I got some Morrettes so they would know what I was talking about.
One other thing, could you smooth in those "fins" too? It's the part just outside the grill; between the grill and the curve of the inner light. Make it follow the line of the grill and the bumper and the morrettes.
Thanks,
Mal

haha ... I figured you might show yours. Only thing different I would have is the Subaru badge on the grill -- I'm not ashamed to have a Soobie! :)
Also, I hope to score some JDM headlamps if I don't go for Morettes ... just depends on how good the chop shot that gmaki makes looks.

Hi!
I'm waiting for that badge!
besides , it says Subaru on the fog covers.
I'm getting the non-HID projectors for $550 or so from TiChih in the classifieds.

Which badge are you getting? I actually think the pink star cluster one looks decent on the silver grille. As far as the fog covers, don't they say STi, not Subaru (no one reads the fine print!)?
Either way, you've got a sharp car ... pretty much exactly the way I plan on dressing mine up. I just want to see what the Morette/sport grille combo looks like first.
Cheers!

WarAngel,
I have replaced the picture in my original post to reflect the changes you requested. Let me know if that is what you were looking for. If not I'm happy to make more changes.

darrelltx,
Ok, here is something to get us started. I used the same picture and stole the grill from another one of Leonardos photos. I don't think this is the best angle to base your decision, but I haven't been able to find good photos to use yet from another angle.
If someone can find (and direct me to) a picture of morrettes at the same angle as Leonardo's car in this thread, I can photoswap them onto Leonardo's car.

Hey, that's not bad!
I'll look for another angle to assist you, but first: Is there any way you can color match the Morettes? They have a slate grey color rather than silver.
Thanks for your time and hard work, gmaki!

There are some good Morette pics in this thread:
http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71467&highlight=Morette+pics
Specifically, there are head-on silver Morette pics at the top and an angled WRB Morette pic toward the bottom. Hope this helps. I'll keep looking.

Yeah, that blue one might work with Leonardo's car. Yes I can probably do the color matching. As a matter of fact, I just realized WarAngel wanted them color matched too.
I'll work on it. I think I hear dinner being made downstairs so I might have to go away for an hour or so, but I'll be back later if so.

Instead of color-matching ... just rip the silver Morettes from the pic at the top of the thread I just linked. I think the shot is more or less from the same perspective (head-on), so it should work for you with li'l editing. Not sure, though. Definitely no expert!

Here is the one from the side angle, Ignore the left light, it wasn't worth the time to make it look right. I'll try the shot at the top of the thread you linked but it was taken form well above the car so I don't think it will look right. We'll see.

Hey, not bad! Thanks for all your work. Hmm, now I'm undecided all over again. Both options look cool, so I guess I'll wait until I'm ready to buy to make my final decision. The Morettes and sport grille would be a li'l cheaper than sport grille w/side pieces and JDM headlamps, so it has the early lead. :)
Cheers!

Gmaki,
Thanks for your help. It doesn't really matter about the color matching. the main thing was getting the look I wanted. Thanks again.

Well just for the fun of it, here is my creation. I don't like it so much anymore though.
| darrelltx | 08-09-2001 02:32 AM |
My version of Morettes
Well, I guess everyone has a version of how they would have liked the Morettes to look. I have two, both similar to the original and each other but slightly different. I'll explain:
By the way, I'm borrowing a pic of RBPWRX's fine WRB sedan with Morettes for demonstrational purposes. Hehe ... thanks, RBPWRX!
Basically, I don't like how the top crease on the Morettes looks outside of the headlamps. By that, I mean how the crease becomes a useless groove and leads to nothing as the Morettes meet the side panel, as indicated by #2 in the pic below.
<IMG SRC="http://home.swbell.net/beseen/Original.jpg">
Notice how the bottom crease (#1) connects nicely with the seam between the side body panel and the front bumper. Well, in the next picture, I eliminated the top crease (#2) after the outside headlamp. Already, I feel this is an improvement.
<IMG SRC="http://home.swbell.net/beseen/Without.jpg">
Finally, as best I could, I made the logical connection (#3) of the top crease to the existing seam between the body panel and the hood. I'm not an expert PhotoShopper (I actually use Paint Shop Pro ... hahaha!), but I think it's enough to demonstrate the point.
<IMG SRC="http://home.swbell.net/beseen/Groovy.jpg">
I'm curious to know what your thoughts are. I believe the existing Morettes could be rescuplted fairly easy, although I'm not sure what material would be adhesive to the plastic, yet sandable and would receive the paint well. It's something I've considered, though. Too much work? hehe ... probably.
Anyway, what do you guys think?
