floor jacks

not sure if this is supposed to be here but it is part of care i guess for the car so please move its in the wrong place.
on with the question.
well its time for a new floor jack. i am looking into the aluminum version. i what im looking for is the best and most reliable floor jack that has low starting point for lowered cars. also i prefer the wide and large version not the little types that are out there, the ones you would trust your life with.
non aluminum is ok too.
can you guys give me some sites, pics, or names of some of the ones you personally would like to use or do use.
thanks.

I just bought my dad a 2 1/2 ton MAC jack. Its really nice. 1 pump to load. Really heavy duty and well constructed. Its a jack that i would trust my life with. I use jack stands anyways tho. I think it goes for 239. Its alittle heavy, but really good.

You couls also purchase a pair of low profile ramps to use with your standard
floor jack. http://www.bmw325i.net/rhino_ramps.shtml
Pep boys also carries a set.

no ramps. wont have any use for ramps. i cant lift parts of the car nor is there really any space to store them.
i was looking into the heavy duty low profile 3 ton jacks. they seem like they can go pretty far under a lowered car

That is a pretty good writeup on jacks, althought I believe (at least the pricing) is a little dated.
The HF aluminum racing jack is not the most incredible jack in existance, but starts nice and low (3"), is cheap at $79 (pre online coupons ;)), and relatively light.. Both my brother and I have been abusing them for a few years now at lots of track events / spec miata races, and both of ours have held up just fine.. He uses a nicer jack when at home, but this is my only one and it works like a champ..

for some reason i always think that harborfreight stuff is a one or two use type of tools. they just dont hold up very well. so as i read all this im kinda worried that the jacks might drop one day on me, but you guys are saying that they are good?!?!?

I just used a cheapo Power Built (Schuck's) jack and jackstands. I think for a 3,000 pound jack and 2 jack stands it was like 99 dollars. Use your jackstands and your car should never fall.

yeah i know its a good idea but im get sooo lazy sometimes.

I have been EXTREMELY happy with my Craftsman 1.5 Ton Aluminum/Steel jack. $114 from Sears. Fast-jacking, relatively light, very stable, magnetic tray...

i like this version. is there a store or supplier that is located in the OC in socal?
this one is a super low heavy duty floor jack. its not aluminum but the long low reach is awesome for lowered cars.
This is a 2 ton low profile jack, comes with a minimum height of 2 1/2 in. Extra long frame.

I've had the 2 ton Craftsman aluminum one for about two years- it's a nice jack, fit/finish is very good, pump is very smooth and fast. While aluminum it's not what I would call extra light ~ 40 lbs.
My vehicle is just a smidge too low for the jack in the front (~ 35mm lower than stock-WRX)- I use Takata-like ramps (about half the cost and I can't tell a difference) and then I'm fine :)
