02 Imprea Wrx JDM headlights?
I was curious if anyone knew where to find the JDM WRX headlights on the internet, or if they are even available, please let me know!! Thanks
| lnawrx1326 | 11-12-2001 03:52 AM |
are the headlights your looking for like the one's on every other new age impreza outside the U.S.?

You know that JDM headlights are designed for right hand drive cars driving on the left side of the road, right? I'm not sure how severe it is, but you'll probably blind oncoming traffic if your throw in a set of JDM lights.

Just like the headlights on the Scooby of the week? The black housing with somewhat of a half circle on the top and a projector and turn signal on the botom? Let me know if you know where to get them of at all. Also, I did not know they were for right hand drive, wuldn't you be able to adjust them so they don't blind on coming drivers. Thanks

isnt this forum for car part REVIEWS? but anyway, i think youre looking for the STi headlights. last i heard the non HID's were going for about $900-950. and awhile back i think i remember an i-club member by the name of taichi that was selling 'em. maybe try a search.

Morette Headlights
If these are the lights that you are looking for, then I can say for a fact that they are easy to order, and the non-HID version is costing me only $450 for the pair!
I contacted Z-1 Automotive in NY for that price, but you can shop around at the places listed here.

hypernoodle: those are Morettes, not STI projectors.

Thanks Rob, can you clarify whether or not the RHD really makes a difference to oncoming traffic? Is it noticeable...
| bsquare | 11-16-2001 08:19 PM |
Isn't there an IDENTICAL thread to this going on right now? Come on, jeez.
Yes, RHD lighting patterns are easily noticed. No clue if those lights can be adjusted to better focus for LHD.

Ben, no offense, but how do you know? You have an RS....I'm trying to get a final answer from ROB. :D

hm
If i remember my conversation with a guy at autofreaks in japantown, sf, there are STi projectors that are electronically aimed, so it should be able to be converted to LHD
| shawrf1 | 11-17-2001 01:03 AM |
There is no easy way to convert the beam projection to LHD. Go go go posted awhile back about the mechanism causing this -- a metal plate inside the projector itself that causes the beam pattern to flare to the left instead of to the right. I'm sure that if you took the headlamps apart and had a machine shop tweak it, you can get them to be LHD compliant...
But... take this with a grain of salt... I have yet to be high-beamed from nighttime driving on all types of roads w/all types of traffic. When I installed my HID kit in them, I made sure to aim them down and away from the eyes of oncoming traffic by parking it on the side of the street and using another car to simulate oncoming traffic. I've had no problems so far. I'll try to get fellow i-clubbers to confirm this.
Anyways, I'm not the only owner of a pair... what are other owner's experiences?

I've had some ppl high beam me. Although I suspect it's from me sometimes driving w/ my foglights on as well too. I have noticed that when I drive w/o the fogs on and just the HID's there is no high beaming.
Although you can see the beam pattern aiming slightly towards oncoming traffic it is just brighter and not blinding.
shawrf1: when you installed your HID's how were you able to adjust. I used the stock bulbs and there was no way to adjust them as they sit fairly snug w/ the clasp and screw. My units are motorized though so that they can be aimed. To my knowledge though the lights can only move in 3 settings. Something like high, middle, low via the switch in JDM cars.
I believe that Imprezer is working on a solution to this as well.
Here is a pic of my setup: [IMG]http://members.i-club.com/UserPics/7378/zt50448.jpg[/IMG]

COOL LIGHTS
Nice looking lights...I am from CA.. where can i get some of those around here?? how much they cost again?? Also anyone knows how to turn the daytime running lights off in the 02' WRX...
| MudBoogers | 11-20-2001 08:17 AM |
Thumbs up...
I also love the JDM lights, however, I can NOT imagine someone over here in the states NOT making these lights as aftermarket parts?!?! Especially by next summer or so, I would think some aftermarket company's gonna make a fairly good facsimile of the JDM lights at a price (hopefully) a whole lot less than 900-2grand. Whether they'll offer 'em as HID or not, is not important to me. Just make em look good and operate correctly (read aimed for US mkt) and keep the price below 750 for the pair, and they'll sell all they can make! Just do it as fast as possible...
Anyone hear of any US aftermarket companies planning to do this yet?

hmmm
EdKeung - yes you can install them yourself... its simple as unbolt and bolt.... As I said you can simply splice the wires or you can take apart the harness from the jdm and plug in the tabs into our stock harness.
jskho - I believe Taichih is only one right now with them but I think there is someone in SoCal that will be getting them, contact TAICHIH.
MudBoogers - I can't believe any producer in the states that would attempt to make these. As most knock offs are made in Taiwan or China. I think labor and tooling the price would actually be more.
Question for Grandmasterchan or Robert..... were you able to lower theright side a bit?
thanks,
alan

Yep. As you look down on the light assembly, there's a gearset directly below your point-of-view. Use a philips screwdriver and rotate CCW to lower and CW to raise the beam.

Well I just saw this in the December issue of Super Street, so if your still looking for a set to buy on line try here. www.fizzautosports.com
| TaiChih | 11-20-2001 01:02 PM |
 Fizz can get them for $2800 for the HID projectors, and $2400 without the HID. Makes $920 for a set look real good, doesn't it? THey can't even touch the non- HID projectors.

~continues to cry since he is too poor to buy JDM lamps even at $920~

The part that amazes me is that on Scooby.net all the new STi buyers are ditching their projectors and planning on Morettes. They are in love with those f-ing things over there.
And that is another possibility -- you guys looking for these light might want to put a WTB up on Scooby.net and see if you can catch a good deal.

For the people who have a aftermarket HID kit on their projectors.
Is there a kit for the STi projectors? In order to fit in the HID kit will any modification have to be done to be able to fit it in? If there is, is it hard?
