Clear bulbs that blink amber part 1

Clear bulbs that blink amber

I want to do the headlight mod and remove the damn condom over my bulb because it annoys the piss outta me, but that's a whole other story. I know of the Philips Silvervision but are there any other alternatives? I don't wanna pay $45 bucks for a bulb.. unless that's the going rate for bulbs.

Couldn't that condom have been put to better use?;)

This is an easy one man, I have tried about 10 diffrent paints and stuff... Use the same style bulb with the nubs on the side, take SILVER paint, I tried puter (sp) and everything else... SILVER works the best by far, just shoot them real lightly. I taped mine to a straw, one on each end. then sprayed them, I held them up to the light you should still be able to see the tint of orange. They work awsome people don't belive me that they are orange till I turn them on, I haven't gotten pulled over at all for them.
Have fun ...

I agree with scoobyvroom, just get orange blinker bulbs and some silver spray paint. Its alot cheaper and it works just fine. They blink orange.
IndyRacer 09-03-2002 04:29 PM

I must admit I really questioned the painted bulb idea. But, against my better judgement, I did the silver paint trick to my side marker bulbs. I used a high temp "aluminum" color engine paint. The color looks good (hardly noticeable - you have to look hard to see the bulb) and the bulbs still shine bright orange. The high temp paint makes me feel a little better about the long term. I figure even if it doesn't work that great over the long haul, I can afford to do this a lot of times before it equals the cost of a pair of Silvervisions.

Or don't be a cheap bastard and do it the legal way :D

Raybrig makes some, but they're $40 a set for mirrored / chrome lights that flash amber

APC makes some for like $3 each , look in the terrible terrible clear taillight and Neon section in Pep Boys, Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts, you can't miss it.

Or order them online at http://www.procarparts.com/store/displaydetails.cfm?pid=1157-VISIONWHITE

Silvervision

I ended up buying the Philips Silvervision and I thought they were fairly cheap. I bought them online here:

http://www.powerbulbs.com/svoffer.htm

I got two sets and some free blue bulbs too!

The shipping was very fast and the bulbs work great!
I havent figured out what to do with the extra pair yet, but I figure I will either use them for the tail lights or just save them for back ups!

I think they were only like $15 a pair.

PY21W SilverVision 12 volt 21 watt - $23.50USD (per pair) ... you get 3 in a pack

I second what jajogega suggests. Autolamps-online.com is where I got mine. They threw in an extra bulb, so I ordered two, but received three.

They look great installed. The perfect finishing touch for the headlight mod.

I simply bought amber bulbs and masked off the socket portion. I then spray painted the bulbs themselves with silver 'accessory' spray paint. These look great and you'll spend about $7!

You do realize that white turn signals are not legal in most US states?
TreyS 03-07-2005 11:51 AM

Silvervision is the only one to get, those rainbow ones look like crap in the housing.

Leagal shmegal.... who gives a ****....It's all about the aesthetics but thanks for that insightful information, and by the way thanks Trey S - I'll go with the silvervision bulbs they should do the trick. Do i just need to swap them with the rear bulbs to get that beautiful white look?

to achieve a white light, you'd probably have to go with one of those blue bulbs. try painting it silver as suggested.

Look at the date of my original posting. I went with the silvervisions years ago.

i just went with amber bulbs...
Uncle Scotty 03-07-2005 02:05 PM

I put a little tape 'dot' on the part of the bulb that will face 'down' when installed....and painted the regular amber bulb silver....removed the tape 'dot' and installed them and done.....works great.
TreyS 03-07-2005 02:19 PM

lol, man this is an old a$$ thread.

Yea, Silvervisions blink amber, like they are suppose to but look clear when they are off.
03yellowworx 03-08-2005 06:52 PM

IIRC white is legal in the front but not in the rear, at least in CA.
