My ghetto gauge housing

Since I have no radio and had a bunch of empty space I figured I'd use it for my gauges. This is my first try. I'll prolly make a few more before I'm happy with it.
A few trips to Home Depot and Voila!

Not a track car but I do have a roll bar going in. I just don't listen to music when I drive. Traded away my stereo a couple years ago.

I just put them in the evo, and they look very good and for the 150 you can't go wrong. There is one complaint the boost gauge i received is a little on the big side and gets very tight when i put it in the gauge pod, but the other gauges fit perfectly.

I'll snap some pictures later today, one thing I want to point out if you do go along with the gauges, make sure you wire it so it illuminates white during the daytime, the red is very dim compared to the white, I couldn't see anything during the day when the gauges were red, so I now have them setup as white all the time and I love it.

im more so interested in how they read.. is it accurate? i have no problem ordering these as soon as today.. but i just dont want to get them and then hook em up and be disapointed.

Nice DIY. I think it would look less empty if you put 3 gauges in there. If they were staggered maybe they would fit nice. Good idea anyways. I have a custom setup for mine and it's always nice to have your own personality involved in the scheme of things.
| nate49509 | 05-12-2006 07:09 PM |
You might have been able to fit another gauge in there if you moved those two up and out.

I highly reccomend you don't put a rollbar in your car. Rollbars are designed for track use, and when you are on the track, you are wearing a helmet. So in a crash they can be more dangerous than a car w/o one. It can crack your head open. They can also interfere with seatbelt and airbag systems. since your chassis will be more rigid, in an accident the crumple zones won't function properly, and your body will absorb the impact instead of your car. This is more true with complete roll cages, but it applies to roll bars too. I'm not trying to be an a**hole, i'm just looking out for you. I'm kinda big on safety lol.
Don't even get me started on racing harnesses ;)

Don't worry, the roll bar isn't going in. Today I decided I'm bored with my car and kinda sick of Subarus so I think I'm gonna get rid of it and get a GTO or an RX-8:). Rear wheel drive is calling me. Trashed the gauge housing too, lol.

RX8 FTL...unless you like getting 10 mpg
