My Gosh Darned Dashboard! part 1

EagleRockWrex 09-27-2005 11:54 PM

My Gosh Darned Dashboard!
Is it only my car (05 WRX) that has a really really really really pesky dashboard. If i use a very clean cloth, it leaves white marks all over. If I get it a little wet, the marks go away............... till the water dries !! There is no way to keep it really nice it seems

Any secrets ??

p.s.- I'm trying to keep away from armorall/formula 2001 and such shining agents

New Wave - type of solution used on dashboards and most interior pieces at my detail shop

in sum, it rocks :)

Try using a microfiber cloth with warm dilute soapy water. Always does the trick for me!
Tada 09-28-2005 12:14 AM

Armorall.

try Quik Interior Detailer with a microfiber. It doesn't leave the surface shiny or greasy like AA. I've used it and it doesn't leave streaks.

anything from Meguiar's

that is all.

Here is the best interior cleaner and protectant in my opinion.

303 Aerospace Protectant. Search the site for it, you'll find tons of info on it. IMO the best all-purpose cleaner/protectant for your car.

Since everyone else is tossing out their product of choice. I use Zymol interior shine. It's not overly shining, leaves an adoring aroma, and was cheap as hell at Ollie's.

I used to have the same problem. Now, I use 2 clean 100% cotton washcloths on the dash. I wet one down with distilled water and wipe the dash. Then I immediately dry it with the other. Any lint or fuzzies I then remove with the California Dash Duster. Comes out perfect.

x2 ordered mine from autopia.org.

I know what you're talking about - it's like a very slightly tacky film on the dash. Do they have some sort of protective film on the dash for shipping that gets removed at PDI?

I've not really attacked it all, but had good luck with the Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer on a spot I hit. It just takes some elbow grease and a few hits to get it lifted up and clean and then it's not bad at all.

I'd have to disagree on using 303 to attack this particular problem - all that will do is cover it up, not clean it off, which is what you want to do FIRST. Then you can hit it with a protectant like 303. So, some sort of interior detailer/cleaner first, then protect.

i use the black magic cleaner on mine and it works just fine...but then again, mine's a 02 WRX. p.s. loved the title of your post... :)

i've got the sticky crap on my new 05 dash too. kinda scared to try and remove it lol. But the dust is piling up. Any new input on this?
jigga 10-14-2005 01:47 PM

i use Meguires NXT interior cleaner spray... Does not come out looking like crap after a while like i have noticed with Amourall, and smells good too... I'd recommend that..

Griot's Garage Interior Cleaner

Almost all their stuff rules, but this....this is awesome!

I don't know about the white marks, but this stuf is great. You can find it a marine/boat supply stores.
WRXVT 10-14-2005 03:59 PM

does meguires make your dash shiny? I hate shiny dashes... armor all does that.
scoobtothenoog 10-14-2005 04:02 PM

So its safe to say I'm not the only one thats car came new with that film crap on the dash
animes2k 10-14-2005 04:33 PM

Yes, if you rub your fingers on the dash of my 05 you get this film stuff rubbing up to white on there. Some sort of interior vinyl CLEANING product would be best. 303, Armor All, etc (like I said before) are only going to cover OVER it.

Clean first, THEN protect/treat/dress.

Virtually any diluted All Purpose Cleaner should do the trick. Meguiar's makes one in their pro line (by the gallon - it's great for just about anything, really), but Costco APC, Castrol APC maybe even Simple Green diluted to 10:1 or maybe 5:1 (pretty strong, still) should clean it up. Use a cotton rag, followed up by a car duster or dry microfiber to pick up the lint, then protect with 303, Sonus Total Eclipse, Vinylex, etc.
vwown3d 10-14-2005 04:53 PM

i use NXT

I have the same problem in my Saabaru 9-2X Aero too, drives me crazy.
garie 10-15-2005 12:32 AM

microfiber cloth and some rubber protectant
wrb2006sti 10-15-2005 02:32 AM

GM foaming window cleaner and a microfiber towel. spray the gereral motors (can be bought at any buick chevy ponitiac dealer etc.) on the towel and clean as usual with
the microfiber towel. its so easy to scratch that plastic and this is the best fix for me
and that window cleaner works great on windows and doesnt hurt your tint. I have used this stuff since 1993 its great guaranteed.
civilone 10-15-2005 04:10 PM

I always stay away from those shiny stuff. They glue dust to your dashboard.
