Removing Subaru Logo on Trunk? part 1

American Zero 09-20-2001 01:44 PM

Trunk Subaru Logo ?

Is it possible to take the Subaru logo off the trunk by yourself, if it is possible how can it be done ?
JenisonWRX 09-20-2001 01:47 PM

Yes... i did it...

what you'll need

1. Hair dryer
2. Dential floss
3. GooGone (or something like it)

Just don't rush the process...or you'll scratch your trunk

post some pics man!

I found that fishing wire is better, dental floss breaks too easily. you will need to wax the area after too. I removed it all.

heat and remove...

clean goop off with nail polish removed, engine degreaser or lighter fluid...

good luck

park your car under sun, have your logo on the trunk heat up, use some mint wax dental floss (that's wat i use). remove logo and rub those double-sided tape off by fingers. a clean cloth with WD-40 to take rest of the goo off.

3M probably makes 50 different kinds of double-sided tape stuffs (though some of it they would call a "bonding system" instead of tape.)

seriously, give them a call. they should be able to point you to the right product and someone who sells it.

Wax on, wax off...

You should also wax the area once you get the letters & goo off. I used bug remover & creditcard to get the goo off.

Sounds like it is easy enough if I wanted to do it. I think that I will wait off on that one though.
BADWRX 09-21-2001 03:14 AM

Just to warn you...it is a beeeotch!!!

Give yourself a few hours!

Andy;)

I didn't use floss as it takes too long and it's possible you might scratch the paint if your not careful. I just pulled the letter with my fingernail and carefully pryed it off, worked for me. Then I used 3M adhesive remover. Washed the car and re-waxed the trunk.
SubaFastR 09-21-2001 02:15 PM

Use Meguires Gold wax to clean up the scratches. They will happen, no matter what. The wax makes it perfect again. Parking it in the sun for a while is best.

I used fishing line (actually it was line from my weed-wacker, but it's the same stuff) and lighter fluid, works like a charm! Just remember to re-wax the area, like everyone else has said.;)

I used a blow dryer, some fishing line and WD-40 with a student ID card to get rid if the residue

works nice! :D
bratmantlz 09-21-2001 05:39 PM

just finished debadging mine. looks great!
Vigorous 09-21-2001 07:22 PM

where can i get some goo-gone?
StarDogChampion 09-22-2001 03:02 PM

debadged

goo gone is available at wal-mart in the laundry detergent section...about $3....
128d 09-22-2001 03:07 PM

Piano wire is the way to go! That works great.
bratmantlz 09-22-2001 03:35 PM

i used wd40 it works great. goo gone sucked.
karl_hungus 09-22-2001 04:59 PM

I was thinking of doing this too but somebody said that scratches are unavoidable??? Is this true... not sure if I want any more scratches on the car. I swear that midnight black pearl paint can scratch if you look at it the wrong way!!!

(this is the first black car I've owned :( )
PsycloneWRX 10-02-2001 03:55 PM

Simple... Spray every letter with WD40. Pry the letters off with a old credit card/rental card. Scrap off the gunk that is left until there is no WD40 left on the gunk, then respray and keep scraping. After all (or almost all) gunk is gone use 3M fine cut on the rest of the area. After removing the fine cut, rewax the area and presto! No scratchs, no letters... :)

Why are you doing that? I'm proud of the SUBARU logo in the trunk. When I go to the gas station I like to say fill the tank to the White SUBARU. I found the debadging trunk to appear flat; It is to wide to be empty. Well, it's a question of likes or dislikes, but in my opinion, it doesn't make sense.

I did this mod myself and it came out wonderful. Now I can't wait to get my new body kit and 22B wing. :D
