Bill,
In the turn around, did you come out in third gear and then down shift to 2nd after you exited the turn? Just curious, I botched that turn as far as shifting on the first run of the first day.

I need to get some camera going so I can learn some stuff about my habits.

You coming to Walnut Ridge and Huntsville? I need some BSP competition.

on the 2nd and 3rd runs I was in 3rd and downshifted to 2nd at the turnaround...then upshifted to to third again...

and yes...It looks like at least Huntsville..:)

Course looks to have been:
1. Pretty fast
2. Not really open to picking your own line, more drive the same line as everyone else as fast as you can.

Two questions arise after watching the video:
1. Could you have been faster if you had canards?
2. Why does it say IDP on your hoodscoop?

KC 03-06-2007 09:40 PM

Hey.... that turn around.. did you brake earlier in your 2nd two runs? Also, entering the chicago box, why did you slow down entering it and got on the gas really late?

Really fast..
I agree with your assessment...single line track

IDP is for all the the doubters..

Yes...braked a bit earlier...with a smoother turnaround...(cept the 2nd run...where I blew thru the bottom......as for the chicago box...it was a straight line pretty much...with that cone being a pivot..I didn't slow down...as much as it looked...I left footed to set the frontend....then proceded onto the slalom..:)...

Repeat after me: smooth hands... smooth hands... smooth hands...

ratt_finkel 03-06-2007 10:39 PM

Jeebus, that looks like the noobest course ever.

No offense to anyone.

Bill, your car looks stupid fast.

Its indertesting to watch in car vid of people. Hand placement, smothness of hands, etc. I can tell if me or Bill is driving the car just by how the hands are placed on the steering wheel in a turn.

I charged up the camera batteries last night, maybe I can get a few videos of me and Bill up from the event up.

I was going to comment along the same order, but not with the ultra-special Kevin Allen smart-ass style. ;)

Looks like a dull autox, but fun haul-ass course. Hate I missed it.
Crash477 03-07-2007 11:20 PM

Good run Bill. I wish I had a camera mount too.
crystalhelix 03-08-2007 07:10 AM

Nice run, car looks fast, so you have a bling bling Hazard button I see, it was the first thing I noticed.

Looking forward to some smack talking in Peru..

Thanks Kevin....One reason I got my "hands" into the picture...so I can evaluate my "driving"...and yes I agree I am to jerky ...on that run...subsequent runs have me smoothing out some....as this was the first run...and had absolutely NO heat in the tires...:D
Jeebus, that looks like the noobest course ever.

The course was designed by some HP guys...nuff said there...I'd prefer a bit more technical course...that exercises all the cars strengths and none of the weaknesses...:p ...Car is aiiiiiiiiiiright..;)

see above..;)..I did manage to take 1.2 seconds off my runs....with smoother imputs...and be knowledge of the course...which I coned...and was only .5 secs off Joel...until the dreaded cone...
Good run Bill. I wish I had a camera mount too.
Thanks....this was on day 1....and my first run....38.8 or something like that...

- Too harsh on the steering wheel
- Late on the gas and steering. Especially Chicago Box and slalom
- Too late on the brakes, not early enough on the gas in the turnaround
- Too "fast" on the throttle resulting in losing some time with the car getting a touch squirrly.

:)

Addressed above...I am usually not that choppy on the steering and pride myself on being smooth...but I guess you got me.......;)

Hmmmmm...First run...had some adjustments that I did ...and made better...and considering no heat in the tires.....;)
- Too late on the brakes, not early enough on the gas in the turnaround
Again....First run...compensated on later runs....:)

I'm a washed up old hack, but still know how things are "supposed" to be done ;)

Its funny though, I haven't autoxed since that double X in atlanta last year, but I noticed that after road racing, I was *too* smooth in my inputs and way late on everything during the autox. Maybe a track day or two could help with smoothing out a touch.

-Tom
trhoppe 03-08-2007 12:33 PM

I'm "Jonathan Roberts" taught

I took 1 autox school where I learned 99.9% of my autoxing in 30 mins by Jonathan doing a course walk with me and then sitting with me for like 3 runs. It was silly. He's my hero.

It has been established that class winners are awarded a lovely thong instead of the national champion jacket.
