Sti Headlight connectors part 1

jjunior887 01-19-2003 05:47 PM

Sti Headlight connectors
Has anyone been able to find a set of connectors for the low beam on the STi headlights(H1).

I Know they have to be made but i can't seem to find them anywhere.

I also need the 9007 connector to mate up to the stock harness.

I found the 9005(high beam) at my local auto parts store but the other two are impossible.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks-James

James,,what im gonna try is to take a 9007 bulb strip it,solder wires to it and turn it into a connector(ghetto harness lol). The 9007 connectors ARE hard to find.

james,
like rudy said, just make your own connectors. i made my 9007 connectors from bulbs and my h1 connectors from a fuel injection connector. requires some dremeling, soldering, glueing, and crimping. you can also wire the h1 bulb with spade connectors (easier) but it requires cutting the OE wires on the headlight. i chose to leave it pristine (future resell) and just make my own h1 connectors.

i don't think this link will work but i posted pictures and diagrams on the other forum at this link...

if the domain name is nasioc, then just change it to the other forum.

If you don't want to mess with that stuff, there's also www.jimhoyd.com You'll have to splice into two wires for the lowbeam, but everything else is taken care of.
kilyung 01-19-2003 09:33 PM

unfortunately, jim's out of stock until later this week (maybe). he'll run out VERY quickly. always does. i had to make mine earlier this month as a result. i've also heard that some people have had to "jiggle" the connectors slightly to get things working properly. just thought that i could take extra care/time to make sure mine would last forever.

Gotta give credit to kilyung fr the idea.
Thanks again,,

Thanks for all the replies guys, I thought of using the jim hoyd harness but like kilyung said you still have to tap the wires on the headlght itself, plus he's out of stock.

I think I'll try to find the connector you're talking about and see how it comes out.

I saw someone else did the bulb idea for the 9007 so I may have to try that as well.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out, might be a week or 2 before I get them working(the lights won't be here 'til then), I just wanted to get a head start. Thanks again-James

EDIT: Hey Kilyung, that link goes to a thread about CF sidemarkers on "the other forum" I'll do a search over there for it and post it here.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=5708 of course you have to change the NASIOC to i-club in the address bar when you click on it
kilyung 01-20-2003 02:12 PM

james,
thanks for the edit. let me know if you have any questions about making the harness. it's pretty self-explanatory after seeing the wiring diagram. let me know how you make out.
jjunior887 01-20-2003 05:08 PM

No problem kilyung, thanks for the help. Has anyone found connectors for the headlight levelers or is everyone just using molex connectors? Second where is the best place to get a 6 pin leveler switch? Thanks-James
kilyung 01-20-2003 06:39 PM

i'm in the process of trying to make the connectors myself as you need the exact same connectors on both the switch and headlights (molding it right now). as far as the switch, i've haven't looked for sources yet. let me know if you find anything. i'll post something when i've got things working. probably sometime next month.

I just saw this thread after I posted here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=303767 Maybe they can get the switch for us by itself w/o the wiring.

Let me know how the connectors come out, I may be interested in a set if you can get more. BTW i thought the headlights had a different connector than the switch, the one on the switch looks like THIS (this is the back of the 6 pin switch) and the one on the headlight looks like a 6 pin weather pack connector.

Back of headlight .

Here's another of the switch and connector . -

Edit: Found a little better pic of the connector on the headlight http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=2035318 -James
kilyung 01-20-2003 07:08 PM

hmm. looks like i'll be making two different types of connectors then :). gotta get me a switch now so that i can start molding a connector.

Just goto Pepboys, they sell them there for $4 each.

Keefe

I bought like 5 pairs of them. Frequent use of the hi wattage bulb until just recently, I have become an HID user now.

you want to know how I got these? There is a slight trick move you have to know about installing HIDs for a negative-switch electrical system. Grounding is very important.

Keefe,,the pepboys up here doesnt have em,,got a part #for the 9007connector?? 9005 connectors they have.
Rudy:D
kilyung 01-21-2003 01:10 PM

Ditto. I haven't had any luck at any of the pep boys that I've checked in RI, MA, or Baltimore(MD).
jagcars26 01-21-2003 03:30 PM

No luck at Autozone either..9007,,i picked up a coupla cheap bulbs.$6 bucks a pop.Im sure they'll be easy to take apart lol.
BTW this setup is tha same fr the JDM right hand projectors corrrect???
Rudy:D
jjunior887 01-21-2003 06:29 PM

They didn't have them at any of the 4 different stores in Manassas,Va I went to the other day. Any chance you might be willing to part with a pair of them xenonk? I'm guessing you are talking about the 9007 connector right? I saw plenty of the 9005's just none of the other two.-James

Rudy,
Exactly the same setup. Just make certain to check out the wiring in your car and the wiring diagram I made (as well as the 9007 connector orientation). Don't want to have your wires flipped around like my first set. You'll love the results. Fits perfectly and lights come up nice and bright with no connection issues.

By the way, I'd recommend buying an extra bulb. I ripped apart one bulb just to see how it was connected before modifying my other two. Wouldn't want to make another trip to the store.

jagcars26 01-21-2003 08:41 PM

kilyung,,,,,,I see what you mean about the extra bulb!!! Oh well,,this is either gonna be real good or real bad:lol: I'll keep ya posted. Thanks fr the diagram,,very helpfull.
Rudy:D

ps,plus i busted my last dremel cutting wheel,,off to the store!!!
pss. for others,,this really isnt that hard.
kilyung 01-22-2003 11:29 AM

it'll be worth it. after you've made one, the other side takes a third of the time. it only took me a total of 2 hours to assemble both harnesses. the key is to remove sections of the bulb one at a time. you want to try and pry off the cap (intact).
jjunior887 02-04-2003 04:12 PM

still can't find the H1 adapter, any ideas? -James

Hey mods, can you move this to the lighting forum. Please.:)
jagcars26 02-04-2003 04:34 PM

James,I never did find one,,i just hardwired mine and covered it with the wire loom,,very simple to do.On the H1,green is hot black is ground.
They are schweet lookin;) ,,,and the RHD JDM versions ar a snap to adjust, you wont blind people and the lite output of the Visionplus H1 bulbs(courtesy gtguy) is great.

jjunior887 02-04-2003 05:13 PM

great, Thanks for the reply, I was just starting to make some connectors and wanted to see if anyone had some at their local store they could pick up for me and I could pay them for. I'm still waiting on my LHD ones form the GB CC-B had going, they got held up a bit because of some shipping delay. Thanks-james
jimhoyd 02-04-2003 06:49 PM
