A long shot on a double din cover
A while back say a year or so. There was a for sale on this guys headunit and he made/bought a carbon fiber double din cover and it had STI written in it. I have spent the last half and hour searching...using key terms. Hell i even searched all my sent pms to see if i sent him a pm. Anyway if anyone can remember his name that would be great. Or even if anyone has any that they made or bought. Basically anything is helpfull. Thanks also i have a double din radio so it has to be double din cover.

Ive been thinking about the same kinda thing. only a dummy/fake double din cover made outta plastic so it looks like theres two forrester dinpockets or something like that. this way i could get a mattjk screen and not feel nervous if I parked my car somewhere. Just pop on the dummy cover and lock the car.

bump, I want to know too
gamewave 04-04-2006 01:47 AM

yeah
You know, I was thinking about that today. I might make one to cover my dvd player out of fiberglass. If it works out, I guess I could make more.
richy_21 04-04-2006 10:34 AM

hmm let me know what you guys do..
littlewhitewagon 04-04-2006 10:47 AM

you can buy sheets of flat carbon fiber from many different places, then cut it down and make it fit
o2sys 04-04-2006 11:05 AM

hmmm for once you post something interesting....lol jk i wanna know as well
richy_21 04-04-2006 11:13 AM

clbd39 04-04-2006 02:24 PM

i'd be very interested as well to see what ya'll come up with, i may try to make one outta fiberglass of CF
whoever gets one done first though post quickly because i'm also going to be getting a double din dvd navi and i want it to stay in the car lol
also a lotcking device would be frickin bad a$$ to have on it but that could be difficult lol
o2sys 04-04-2006 02:34 PM

i've seen people customize CF sheets and cover the double din to add gauges and switches and give it that extra rally look
clbd39 04-04-2006 02:59 PM

where might we see these at o2?
natoli4 04-04-2006 04:21 PM

I have an idea...if you don't want your old stock stereo take the faceplate off and glue all the knobs in place and use that!!! Not sure how it would attach but just a idea. good luck.
littlewhitewagon 04-05-2006 10:53 AM

^^^ that is done a lot with older cars...only problem with the subaru radio is that the front face is very thick...and you would need to find a way to attach it to your bezel.

get a security system for your car, and change all the radio chassis fasteners to roberts drive or tamper proof torx...that will mess the theif up for a while...then come out with a 14 inch dildo and wack the fool over the top of his head...
IIdiceII 04-05-2006 11:19 AM

yea id do that^^ but last time my car was stolen they just flatbedded the thing. so if my cars worth it to em, theyll just take it
clbd39 04-05-2006 12:18 PM

/\ /\ /\ omg that would suck, you put all the effort to security and they just flat out take the whole damn thing lol i'm sorry dude!

has anyone done anything for this project yet? i'm going to be talking to some friends who do lots of formula car carbon fiber work tomorrow and see if they can help me out on this, if we get a cover together would anyone be interested in buying one? not really for profit just for all us cool people who want one though? so i would assume we'd sell them for their time and shipping and material is all which i'm sure if we'd get enough people interested they'd be a lot cheaper since deisgn is the biggy

i go to school at one of america's top engineering schools so it shouldn't be a problem ;)

As ghetto as it sounds my buddy took a lid from a plastic container he had laying around, covered it in black hockey tape and painted STi on it with a stencil. If just sits on his double din DVD. He can't drive with it, but when the cars parked it hides everything quite nicely and looks good.

I plan on buying a sheet of the precured carbon fiber when I get my Z1 in the summer. Don't know yet, but i'm pretty sure carbon fiber can be cut easily with a dremel. I figured the stereo bracket can be modified a bit to mount the double din unit a bit further into the dash, and then clips can be added to the cover to have it snap into the double din opening. When I get around to it i'll definitly post up here, but that won't be till after graduation  . (late May)
richy_21 04-06-2006 04:58 PM

booo i dont want to buy entire sheet :( anyone else want to chip in and get a sheet?
natoli4 04-07-2006 10:39 AM

I'll split it with you...how much? I'll paypal you.
richy_21 04-08-2006 09:34 AM
