All Season Floor Mats part 1

chaddeus 12-02-2004 06:38 PM

All Season Floor Mats
I once ordered the Subaru rubber floor mat for my STi but was very disappointed with the results because the floor mat keeps on moving around. I tried putting velco under the mat but it still keeps on moving around. I currently use the STi floor mat and satisfied with it but its not rubber and winter is coming!

So I was wondering if anyone of you actually got a rubber floor mat for your WRX that dont move around? Where did you get it and how much?\

Interesting... I just ordered a set of rubber floormats off of eBay. Anxious to see if they will slide around or not. If not, I'll recommend them! If they do, well, I don't see why it would be difficult to attach them to the little stock floormat holder post.

The Prodrive WRX/STi mats some with securing hardware

they are charcoal in color
embroidered with Prodrive
and have anchors to secure them

I've been using all weather mats from weathertech.com (you see a lot of their ads in many car magazines) for my my2002 impreza. In my case, the mats are wide enough that it doesn't move around. Well, it did the first few days until I figured out how to seat them such that they no longer move.

The rubber-like material isn't slippery when wet, and has a nice coating to reduce dried mud from sticking on the mat (for easy cleaning). The side lips are also very tall so they hold a lot of liquid if need be.

The downsides are they're heavier than the oem fabric mat, and probably cost more than the Subaru all weather mat. Functionwise, I have no complaints.

Here is a recent thread on the OEM Rubber Mats:

put em on top of the old ones?

Looks like everyone in that thread pretty much puts them over their carpet mats and the problem is solved. Looks like I'm gonna have to do that because they drove me crazy last winter.

I took the carpet mats out for the All weather mats. I took my trusty Dremel tool and drilled a small hole in the rear left corner, and then looped a black zip tie through. The zip tie loops around the mat anchor near the seat and keeps the mat in place. You can hardly tell any modifications were made. I could take pics if my descriptions are inadequate.

Adaquate but pics would be cool if you got some free time.

i think the first thing someone bought me for my car was for a Christmas gift a couple years ago i got a set of Scooby Doo rubber mats and they are amazing! Got love my Scooby in my Scooby!

I have the rubber mats on top of my carpet mats and they STILL slide around.

Sure, I'll try to post some in the next couple of days.

This is what Im afraid of..I got the mats when I first got the car and I feel like they dont adequately cover the whole floor. I still get dirt in between the door sill and the floormat. Maybe I should look at the weathertechs..
chaddeus 12-05-2004 07:17 PM

so to conclude, there aren't any all season floor mat for the WRX that will fit perfectly?

I really think whether the floor mat moves around is dependent on the individual and how they shift their feet while driving.

When my wife is in my car or her truck, she slides the mats all over the place (she tends to scrunch the mat up toward the firewall). Yet I, driving the same vehicles with the same mats, have no problems with the mats moving.

FWIW, I use the Subaru all-weather mats and have no problem with them sliding around. I take the regular mats out when I put the all-weather mats in.

Thats what I do. Even without the carpet floor mats below, I've never had a problem with them moving around.

I think I am in desperate need of a all season floor mat. Any recommendation those from Subaru?

Trunk_Monkey 12-10-2004 08:53 AM

They hold snow, slush and mud extremely well, the deep grooves just trap it. The only problem seems to come from it sliding around when you dont have the regular mat under it.
WR^2X 12-10-2004 09:51 AM

On Monday I got the mats that I ordered from eBay. No problems with them sliding around... Here is an auction for them.

Walmart sells rubber mats that you trim to fit . They cover WAY more than the tiny subaru mats and @ $15 is a great deal .
chaddeus 12-10-2004 03:46 PM

Have you guys seen those advertisement (weathertech.com) on car magazine where they say they have customized floor mats etc? Anyone buy from them before?

See post#7.

Unless things have changed, they only have a one-size-fits-all for the Subaru lineup. They will reccommend a size that is closest, and has lines on the outside edge to trim if necessary. I left them as is on my my2002 impreza without problems.
V6TurboTA 12-10-2004 04:24 PM

I have the a/w mats in my STi... they SUCK. They slide all over the place and get stuck under the pedals. I dont suggest you get them for an STi.
