that is where i got mine. they have them for pretty much any vehicle. the prices range from $150-700. they require some drilling which means you need an 18V drill or two.

and be careful with the drilling or this could happen:

those are pics from the aftermath when i got tired of drilling on the roll cage and decided to drill a hole in my finger.

Ouch!!!
lo-buck 03-08-2004 01:45 AM

cusco is an unsafe cage and is not legal for any on track events. go ahead and get autopower from ioport racing ( www.ioportracing.com ) or ( www.dgtrials.com )

Does anyone know how these fit in an STi? Do the full cages require cutting the dash (I know the Cusco doesn't...but apparently it isn't very highly respected)? Do the full cages, or even just the race roll bars, allow access to the back seat (I know there is an option for removable cross brace, but removing these seems to facilitate loading a 2 door car where the person entering does so through the front doors - the side bar in the rear remains)? Last, how much to these things weigh?

Any info, fotos, etc would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

I just talked to Autopower:
Full cage weights ~100lbs
Race roll bar weighs ~50lbs
Roll cage does not require cutting dash.
Rear supports bisect rear doors in either application, no remedy.
3 weeks fabrication time.
CageChicane 03-08-2004 07:21 PM

i removed my rear seats, but from what i can tell they could only be used as storage and not as a place to sit. the cage is custom fit so you dont have to remove the dash OR the door panels.

Sounds tempting...any chance you might post a pic or two of your setup? Would really help me out...

yeah sure, i just have to snag one of my friends' digital cameras. so give me a day or something.

it is in my '93 Eclipse tho, not my Subi. still want pics?
cdraayer 03-09-2004 12:56 AM

Yeah! Pics of the tubes along the dash and door panels, as well as of the rear section would be awesome. Thanks!

Adding a roll bar or cage to a street car requires you to consider some other things. Here's a thread you may want to read. I personally have no problem with using a roll bar in a street car, with proper precautions and an understanding of the potential negatives. Others in the referenced thread disagree. Read and make your own decision.
This also opens up and entire discussion on belts, seats, seat braces, etc when you elect to head down this road.
cdraayer 03-09-2004 01:25 PM

Yeah, there are some legitimate concerns there. However, since the rear support tubes effectively eliminate access to the rear seats, and I never have anyone back there anyway, the arguments regarding rear-seat occupants are fairly moot. As for me and whomever might be in the passenger seat, we've got 5pt belts (as well as the stockers) and Sparco seats - so if I go with the race roll bar there will be no danger of collision with any front tubing, but if I go with the full cage there will be that concern. Good info.;)

I saw the IO power 4 point one installed in a WRX this weekend.

For a bolt in it is nice. I don't like how far back from the B-pillar it is. I don't like how far down the strut tower it is. Just personal things - it is a very nice bolt in - but it convinced me I might have to go custom.
CageChicane 03-09-2004 10:06 PM

okay, here are the pics of it installed on my '93 Eclipse. it was windy so some of them are blurry.

the other pics are on the way, i am having trouble uploading them.

edt: nevermind i e-mailed them
cdraayer 03-09-2004 10:10 PM

BLUETURBOWRX 03-10-2004 01:34 AM

Hey guys thanks a lot for the info you have given me.. Does anyone know if the AUTOPOWER roll cages are 6pt and NHRA compliant? Let me know.. thanks, eric
CageChicane 03-10-2004 02:30 AM

from what i hear Autopower is used all the time for drag cars. go to the ioportracing.com website and look under the roll cages to see what sanctioning bodies they are certified for. i think it lists SCCA and NASA and one other. i am pretty sure it will be good for NHRA, at least as a starter kit.
