Anyone seen this brushed aluminum kit?
Does anyone have this dash kit

Someone had bought a carbon fiber kit from their and said it was real carbon fiber

Im kinda skeptical on it though cause its so cheap for so many parts
designfate 08-22-2006 05:16 AM

a real carbon fiber kit that large would probably be around 400

seems cheap
ekw 08-22-2006 07:51 AM

i wonder what the * means where it says "Classic Series (Real Materials*)
seems like there should be a footnote for that.
another section says:
"You can choose from genuine woods, real carbon fibers, simulated graphics and factory matches."

you do understand that these are not actual trim pieces, but covers (veneers, basically) for the pieces, right?
"We also feature 3M adhesive that stretches to absorb thermal expansion and contraction, OEM Approved, Extreme temperature resistant and Ease of application ( Peel and stick). "
that's why the 'CF' is ~$200, not $400+
Keif 08-22-2006 10:31 AM

damn i knew something had to be wrong with that price

These adhere to the parts in the car, they are real carbon fiber in a clear somewhat flexible resin (to adhere to curves) about 1/8th thick with 3m tape on it. The edges are rounded off for a smooth fit. I really like my kit it looks exactly like hard carbon fiber and I should know since I have $2500 in carbon fiber on my car. It is way better looking than the factory kit for sure. Just my 2 cents...again.

yeah they are stick on - epoxy covered nasty kits.....

stay away. stay very far away.

^^^^^ Wrong Jamie!

The stick on kits are very nice if you get one from a quality manufacturer like B&I. Granted some of the pieces (console and radio trim) are kind of cheesy, but the other pieces fit well and don't look like stick-ons.

I emphatically disagree.

I've yet to see a stick on kit look "good"
Doesn't matter who it comes from.

Cheesy.... yes. I will agree. that's a great description

designfate 08-23-2006 05:07 PM

the stock trim (for 02-03 atleast) looks like brushed aluminum anyways. It would look the same but....be metal.

I'll post pics of mine. I get nothing but compliments. I did not use the console and radio trim pieces.

I have mine since 02, in every meet or track day. I too have nothing but compliments. There are very easy to clean, after 4 years now, they look like the day I install them. Mine is made by 3M. Will post pics later.

they already make brushed aluminum kits..
JBravo920 10-04-2006 07:49 PM

yeah, so as expected, both of the stick on ones look terrible. Not to be rude to anyone who has one, but it doesnt look good, both of those are very obvious that its stick on. The one on the glovebox doesnt even meet at the ends of the glovebox, it just stops. I hate to tell you, but Im guessing all the people youve gotten compliments from, were probably just being nice, then when you walked away, they started laughing. If none of the people complimenting you have gone and bought their own kit yet, especially for that cheap of a price, then they didnt really like it. Just my .02
Ghosthound 10-04-2006 08:19 PM

yea, get a real cf dash... or the whole car...

Like the entire trim pieces made out of brushed aluminum or just the stick ons?
I have tried to find the entire pieces but can only find stick ons, If they exist link me please.
LathanM 10-04-2006 10:49 PM

I haven't seen a good looking brushed metal kit yet, something about the plastic film they put on top of them...

Anyway, I piked up some of this stuff for a computer mod:
http://www.mnpctech.com/BrushedChromeFilm.html

I don't know how well it would work out on an '02-04 but it would be perfect for an '05+. The material has a little flex to it so you could probly shape it around the radio.
STIStalker 10-09-2006 09:18 PM

I sell kits on ebay that are made of real brushed aluminum, here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Impreza-WRX-Real-Aluminum-Dash-Kit-02-04-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQihZ005QQitemZ150004198003QQtcZphoto

(I'm not supposed to be selling them for any less than $106.00) I haven't even actually seen one of these yet but I think I might go ahead and get one just to see how it looks. I have sold a few and they all said they were happy with them so it might not be to bad.

Here is another kit for the 02-04 WRX: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&item=150044906577&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Must be nicer because it does cost quite a bit more. I can also get kits for the STI, kits with different kinds of wood (not on a WRX though) Solid White, Red, Blue, and Yellow Kits, Satin Aluminum Kits, Red Vinyl Kits, one kit says REAL Carbon Fiber, and a Simulated Silver Carbon Fiber Kit. If anybody is interested just PM me. I will be listing some of these on ebay soon.
Keif 10-09-2006 09:50 PM

dont get it, you say its vinyl in the listing but the link "aluminum dash kit says its real aluminum

Yea I need to end that listing and relist it. It is the default description and I forgot to change it before I sold one and once you sell one you can't go back and change anything.
