So i read the "how to clear the 04+ headlights" thread
i think i'm gonna go ahead and do the mod today.. however i havent located the si;ver coated amber bulbs. am i correct that the bulbs already in the oem headlights are orange? and the lights will still be "clear" with the exception of the one bulb? I just want to stay legal. let me know, i dotn wanna do the mod and then have it not be equipped with an orange flashing bulb, but getting rid of the reflectors would be nice.

sorry i didnt search it out more.. i tried to read the whole, how to clear my headlights thread, but it was 637 posts or something, didnt wanna read thru em all to see if someone asked. thanksin advance

All the ones in the front are clear unless you replace them.
VTSubieRS 07-10-2005 11:06 AM

how much of a pain is it to replace the flasher bulb after i do the clearing mod, and put the ligths back in? do i have to pull the headligths again?
Samirr76 07-10-2005 11:23 AM

no u dont
CGM_WRX 07-10-2005 11:34 AM

I did this on my old Civic. It's likely that you won't find an orange bulb listed for your car but all you have to do is go to the autoparts store and match the clear one up with an orange one making sure it is the same configuration and it should work just fine.
fireball_jones 07-10-2005 11:42 AM

The lights are easily replaceable without pulling the headlight assembly again. And I don't think he's looking for orange bulbs, but silver ones that flash orange. You'll also have to change out your parking light bulbs if you want them orange too. Oh, and you might as well order another set of silver coated orange blinkers for the rear bulbs while you're at it.

did you read post #631??
Burncycle 07-10-2005 04:40 PM

Not to hijack tthis threat or anything, but I noticed all the led lights on the websight linked from above. Looking through the myriad of size choices I was wondering, what the right ones are to replace all the amber colored lights? Also, is there anything special I should know about switching to leds? Thanks guys.
fireball_jones 07-10-2005 05:11 PM

The turn signals are 7443s, the parking lights are 194s. If you replace your blinkers with leds, they'll blink twice as fast.
Burncycle 07-10-2005 05:16 PM

Thats right... I do remember hearing something about that once... Did anyone find a fix for that?
fireball_jones 07-10-2005 07:15 PM

Yeah, search around, you can put some resistors in the wiring, but IMO it's not worth it... especially since the silver coated orange bulbs are half the price.

thanks everyone... i did the clearing my 04+ headlights mod today.. they turned out good. i'll post pics soon. thanks for the great writeup and info
VTSubieRS 07-10-2005 09:44 PM

okay.. here it is, before and after pix. everythign went well, we had a little confusion at one step but rereading and going back over everything we figure it all out. i took out the two larger reflectors from each headlight, but left the smaller conical, parking light reflector, which i should have taken out to go for ALL clear, but for now they look world's better, and i will probably take it out sometime, i just wanted to see it without the two larger. i kinda light the parking l;ight still lighting up orange anyways. the RS lights definately are different then the rex lights as well, not by much but a few little differences. let me know what you all think! thanks for the info, help and steps on this everyone!!

right now i'm running "illegal" turn signals, so i will order up the silver coated amber bulbs asap. i like the way it looks now!! hehe ;)

Nice job. I got an amber reflective sticker and did this so that I would still have a front reflector and be able to pass CA registration...

VTSubieRS 07-10-2005 09:54 PM

i could live with the amber reflector if it as that low profile inside the light.. although i really wanna pull em apart now and pull otut he last orange reflector, which is starting to bother me know, and then just have anything that si supposed to be orange, be silver coated, illuminating orange...

and obviously... the classic pic. from the orginal "how to clear your 04+ headlights thread"... my own version

Thought they were 7440's. AT least that's what I ordered and they fit. Did it yesterday :)

I think it's 7440s in the front 7443s in the rear, but IIRC, 7443s are universal fit, where as 7440s aren't, so if you order either, you get 7443s. I could have that completely backasswards, but it's something like that :p

You might be right about the rears but the box my fronts came in were definitely 7440. Oh well, as long as they work, right?
VTSubieRS 07-13-2005 01:02 AM

i know they make the blinker bulb in silver coated amber.. they are 7440s and people here have replaced them with sylvanias. i have seen other owners with cleared parking lights there too. i'm thinking about throwing the lights back in the oven and pulling that reflector as well, but i need to know fi they make that bulb (whatever it is???) in silver coated amber, before i go ahead and do this.. do they make them?
fireball_jones 07-13-2005 08:58 AM

You can get LEDs for the parking lights. There's no blinking issue there, and LEDs are always clear.

what i'm asking is, if i pull the reflectors from the parking lights... is there a way to make that illuminate amber? do they make those small bulbs in silver coated amber? or should i leave the ornage reflector in there the way it is, and not have fully clear headlights? a lot of people have clearted the whole light.. what have others done to make the little ornage parking lights still illuminate orange??
fireball_jones 07-14-2005 08:50 AM

LEDs come in any color/size you want. I have amber colored LEDs in my parking lights, and no plastic coverings in my headlights.
