AWD is STS is a GO! part 1

bvondran 08-23-2004 01:25 PM

Bye Bye AWD in STS
All that's required now is the Board Of Directors stamp of approval.

"The following previously-published items have been recommended to the BOD for implentation 1/1/2005.

From the July 2004 Fastrack:

Item 8 (Street Touring AWD vehicles)"

Nothing like a big f'you from the STAC!

retarded. me thinks all those letters didn't matter :(
KC 08-23-2004 01:40 PM

That's off the new fastrack?
Corey 08-23-2004 01:44 PM

I think this is new KC... read October FasTrack... My head is spinning, as I thought for sure it would be shot down.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh

I quit.
zzyzx 08-23-2004 01:48 PM

Odd. Truely odd.

I'm gonna post up on streettouring right now and ask for a response from those responsible.

The only thing I can think of if that the STAC is trying to pass the buck in making it seem that the BOD is the ones that are going to make a decision on this, and not them.

Seems like an RS is totally underpowered for that class. On our last regional (NWR) the STX guys that I normally have better times than, were a full second faster being a longer, faster course. Sure the RS is more agile than a WRX, but has much less horsepower. Just got porked by SCCA.
zzyzx 08-23-2004 01:57 PM

Well, given the history of typographical screw-ups by the STAC, it could very well just plain be wrong. We'll see.

ratt_finkel 08-23-2004 01:59 PM

I'm glad I plan to stay in GS.

I'm hoping for a typo too... but I doubt it. Also, I believe that this is a call for a vote from the SEB to the BOD... I think the STAC already recommended that the SEB leave AWD in STS... So the SEB decided not to listen? I want to know why.

DrBiggly 08-23-2004 02:05 PM

I can't believe they're actually going to do it. Good grief.
bvondran 08-23-2004 02:16 PM

at least they're maintaining "conceptual consistency!"
ChrisW 08-23-2004 02:24 PM

stupid move.... Next they will want to move the STI/EVO to STX so the pony cars will have a place to play in street touring

but at least you have your diff bushings :)
Corey 08-23-2004 02:42 PM

OK, we can calm down now... It was an error...

How many current STAC drivers drive Civic Si's?

How many got beat by a 2.5RS at a Pro this year?

hhhmmmm. Even though Pros aren't supposed to be used when classing a car.

I bet the "conceptual consistancy" crap will be the reasoning behind the judgement.

DrBiggly 08-23-2004 02:44 PM

Good to know that it won't be moved! :)

I just didn't want any more misinformation spread. Andy Hollis has clarified on SCCA Forums that the item in the October '04 Fastrack of items forwarded to the BoD for approval is in error. The RS will stay in STS, period.

Please get the word out that there is yet another error in Fastrack that needs to be debunked.

From Andy Hollis:
Not sure how that got printed, but its a mistake. Looking at SEB minutes, it clearly was supposed to be tabled until after Nats. And before anyone gets all excited, the tabling bit is to address a philosophical issue. Either way, it will not affect the eligibility of the 2.5RS. That car will saty in the class, regardless of how the final wording gets done.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Here is the thread on SCCA Forums:

Good to know.

I started a new thread so there's no confusion. Please spread the word because there will be a lot of people that still haven't seen this yet. Try to stop the snowball before it starts.

Mods, could you make this a sticky since this is a BIG issue and many many people have yet to find out about this?

Thanks,

assuming this is true. FasTrack is official. Andy Hollis posting on the internet is not. I hope he is correct, but i'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch.
zzyzx 08-23-2004 03:24 PM

I hear peep peep peeps. But maybe I'm just hearing things... ;)

Done
zzyzx 08-23-2004 07:49 PM

Thanks, South!

BTW, I talked to a BOD member about what's on the agenda and we went over the items. FWIW, everything that was listed in the Oct Fastrack was on the agenda with the exception of the AWD item. He couldn't find it at all on his list.

That was waaay too crazy to be true. I mean, come on! And where else does that car really have a place to play, outside of the mega-buck classes? Ack. Thank God.
AliBenn 08-29-2004 03:06 PM

well i just looked at the nationals STS entry list and there is only one RS.
wish me luck.
hopefully hollis will take mercy on the whole class.
