body kit vs. the subtle look part 1

body kit vs. the subtle look
whats your opinion on body kits for the wrx? i know when i first got my car i wanted to slap on some 18s and a cool kit. and i did so. now, 2 years later, i look back and regret it. i now have a oem car w/ a prodrive lip. i just think, IMO, that the whole body kit phase will most cars will pass. the v2 lip and any other oem kit will always be nice but im talking about the bigger companys in particular (chargespeed, JUN, ings, etc).

how do you like it? kitted or clean?

heres a before and after of mine.

i just think the subtle look will NEVER go out of style. plus theyre easier to drive daily :p
Subystud 11-24-2004 03:23 PM

I have the OEM kit and love it. Never wanted anything more.
migs76 11-24-2004 03:33 PM

never a fan of the snowplow look. me likey prodrive or oem front lips.
Blue Rabbit 02 11-24-2004 04:27 PM

the prodrive lip is my all-time favorite. stick with the prodrive man.... its awesome

somethign a lil more radical but not too showy-- STi V2 looks sick on silver... my .02 has been given
WingNut 11-24-2004 05:00 PM

subtle is always good. your initial body kit is a bit much...
djcttb 11-24-2004 06:01 PM

i agree.
imo- body kits, conversions, etc. will all get played out over time. a clean car will NEVER go out of style.

:)

but i know there are some kit lovers out there!

Ociari kit is subtle especially with painted oem skirts

I like the before but I own an Ociari kit....

personally i like the first one better. i think the now picture looks too plain jane, but it's really up to you. you can always switch back and forth from summer - winter and get the best of both worlds :D
Nytmare 11-24-2004 09:20 PM

Yeah, all of my cars have always really stood out. That's what I aim for, I don't really like having a car that blends into the crowd/looks stock.

Just my .02 though.

Car manufacturers spend millions $$$$ on car design.
Owners often spend a few thousand $ ruining the ballance of the original design  IMHO. Not always I know but the majority, Yes.
Original designs often become 'classics'. The same cannot be said for most after market body kitted cars.

I always though Subaru did a really good job on the lines for Imprezas 99+.

+1 for the clean, subtle OEM front
MikalsWRX 11-25-2004 12:01 AM

I lke the first pics alot better. Was one of my fav subies :D Mikal

My vote definitely goes with the OEM look. It's much more practical and cleaner than any bodykit.
darknightohio 11-25-2004 01:07 AM

Looks good both ways. Genuine STI Version 2 lip spoiler maybe? IMO that one looks the best.

2nd that suggestion, the before looks too much like a snow plow. Then again you could use your car in the winter to ear some extra cash, you could even call yourself Mr. Plow!
squeech 11-25-2004 03:03 AM

Oh Mr. Plow
That is my name
That name again
is Mr. Plow
:D

old front lip was a bit too much, cwest side skirts a tad bit to loud (even though i have em too, i just switched back to stock w/aeroguards), prodrive lip good (glad i never sold mine). ver1/2 lips probably the best ones out there for us bug eye dudes. (jdm/edm's are a must for bug eyes imo). you've got an awesome car there buddy.
GoRacerXGo 11-25-2004 06:57 AM

i personally liked your griffin lip with the whole c-west sides and rear, i thought it looked hot. but hey, i love how people always change and evolve their car. good look none the less.

I kinda like it and I usualy hate kits...I think it goes good with the color of the car.....Hmmm wonder if it'd look good in black..
wrxtreme2 11-25-2004 10:14 PM

i liked the griffin more also.
ronan1975 11-26-2004 08:32 PM

Are you a ricer or racer
kennethw 11-26-2004 10:42 PM

Hmmm....it all depends on whether it is for functionality or for aesthetic....a good body kit what might look a little too much for the road should actually work in racing applications....I go for functionality....therefore, I must be a ricey racer....hahahahaha
darioc 11-27-2004 02:47 PM

i think it looks good both ways but i like the subtle look because you can go lower!!
Nytmare 11-27-2004 03:34 PM

Diabolical1 CC 11-27-2004 08:54 PM

is that a honda?

Normally I would say the Subtle look. Although on a WRX nothing is ever really Subtle. So go all out and make it look mean. But otherwise, keep it looking subtle and nobody will ever know. Just the way it should be.
