Bumper & Light Mod

[IMG]http://www.i-club.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=1783886[/IMG]

This pic was made by Jakester. Thanks.

Is it possible to mount lights here?

Is there sufficient steel to mount them?

Would it restrict too much airflow to the radiator?

Would they have to be covered, if my true fogs have mesh screens over them?

What lights could fit in this area?
jasona 04-16-2002 12:42 AM

i dont know about that, but i put 4 foglights about that size behind my grill, 2 to each side of the emblem, theres another option. plus it kinda disguises it behind the grill so u dont really notice them till theyre on, theyre really bright too, the grill doesnt block hardly any light.
aspera 04-16-2002 12:48 AM

Can you post a pic of the foglights behind the grille?

Do you have any problems running hot?

What type of lights did you install?

Pics would be great!

i am sure that they could be mounted there depending on what type they are.....i have a set of hella 500's that i am going to mount in front of my grill...but they are pretty heavy, relatiively speaking......i need to fabricate some sort of mount..

if you are getting 4 fog lights, why not use a light bar?

I am not doing any rallying, only occasional trips to the mountains for hunting and fishing.

Make sure you get some clear covers or Stonegard or something to protect them if you are planning on mounting them that low. Rocks will break those babies as quick as a subies paint chips. :)
SAW 04-16-2002 04:52 PM

The lights down low was just a starting point.

Actually, I really like the way jasona did the lights.

I am going to look into that setup.
speedbuggy67 04-16-2002 06:49 PM

I am actually looking into lights in the air dam too. I found that the Hella 300 driving Freeform will fit and are 7in wide and 4in high. They produce a ton of light. Hella lights can be upgraded to 100watt bulbs too. Cheap lights are great but their reflectors can't compare to a quality light. I too go to the mountains and dark places often and just want to know if I will have problems with overheating before I do this. The hella's come with covers and full wire harness for easy install. I plan on buying another factory switch for them. You should look into these.

I guess nobody has any overheating problems. This idea can't block much more air than a big light bar.

I'd love to have a pro's opinion.....Subie Gal Where are you!!

they dont really add much light straight ahead when the high beams are on, but i have so much more peripheral area its amazing. it would be even better with higher quality lights.

theyve already saved 2 possums and 1 deer from a 75 mph death. the possums wouldnt have hurt my car, but if not for the lights that deer woulda messed me up!

That is hilarious

I really can't stop laughing. Good one Frederf!

They look good jasona.

Actually my car has mesh covers so the factory fogs are still operational.
Frederf 04-17-2002 12:09 AM

Got your AIM message, was in other room retrieving ketchup (Dorm life, don't ask).

Didn't notice the mesh covers before.
jasona 04-17-2002 12:47 AM

I know it was unintentional but jasona you sure managed to jack this thread.
I really like the lights behind the grill though think i might have to go get some how did you mount them?

umm and for the stoneguard because in the original pic your lights would be mounted low???? where are the factory fogs located same height???? i am:confused:
WRXBjlevy 04-17-2002 01:48 PM

How exactly did you mount those behind the grill like that? And second, do you have any problem with overheating with that much of the radiator blocked?
jasona 04-17-2002 03:54 PM

the lighs came with little mounting kit i just screwed them into the top piece of the grill. they were too tight clearance on the outside 2 lights, so i had to grind down the mounting kit about 1/4 inch or less.

it doesnt overheat or anything, it seems to stay at the same temperature as always. but we havent had a really hot day since i did it.
mattjb 04-17-2002 06:04 PM

What lights are those?

Do you have any head on pics?

From this angle, it looks a bit like the old Aston Martin Vantage

(and that's not a bad thing!)
mattjb 04-17-2002 11:47 PM

Ya, i got the info and I can take a pic but my camera is at work. I'll grab the info for you tomorrow.

OK, heres the skinny.

I picked up these lights at Shucks (local car parts store around here) for like $60.00.

These are "Blazer" Diamond Blue driving lamps 3200. Sorry, dont have a part number or anything like that.

Heres a pic too. Enjoy!
ATX25RS 04-18-2002 12:46 PM

here are mine at night...

They're the Hella 4000's, btw. The Eurobeam pattern which is a focused driving beam, but not super super focused like their pencil beam. According to Hella, mine will put light on an object (like a deer) up to 2500 feet away. Also have the Morettes obviously, and those are super bright!!! Especially high beams... they're killers. Can't forget the factory fogs or the additional little round driving lights on the bottom either.... hehehe. Anybody need a tan?... 600 watts worth of lights on the front of the car could do the trick.... :D
smp291 04-29-2002 03:32 PM

Those lights behind the grille look sweet and VERY Functional!!
