CF hood for WRX

does anyone know where i can find a carbon fiber hood for a 02 WRX, and i also have a few questions, what is the best blow off valve, waste gate, boost controler, and intake for the car, i'm going for the turbo back BMP exhaust with the gt muffler, is going for about 1200 if you know a better exhaust set up please tell me, money is not a problem thanks. :)

Yeah I'd like a cf hood too, but I also want my hood scoop to be cf. Anyone know? I like this one I saw in the gallery :):

 That must be a very expensive aero-kit... imagive if you don't park very well...

not to be a dick, but whats the point of a CF hood for a wrx? Our hoods are light enough...I don't think cf is gonna be lighter.

Well not to be a dick but i think a CF hood would look doper and it would still be ligther than stock.
Keith 06-11-2001 08:39 AM

depends, what color car do u have?
as for ur other questions, the Best boost controler is up to the person. I have the apex avc- and I like it, some ppl like the HKS evc4 other like the blitz, its all up to u. What are you lookin at doing with this car?
Also, there is no offical intake yet, so far rallispec has made one...but just a few. If you want a good upgrade, take out the silencer and drop a k&n in there, that adds about 5-8hp (dynoed)
good luck with ur car

sedona red pearl, i'm going for speed so i'm looking to get the best parts i can get my hands on, but i would like a loud blow off valve do they all sound the same?
Conduit 06-11-2001 10:12 AM

1. If you want dope and speed, get a CF trunk lid. Syms has already shown one, because the stock trunk is damn heavy. All the pics you are showing are Syms, as far as I know. None of their CF gear is for sale.

2. The Syms CF hood was the _same_ weight as the stock aluminum one.

3. A loud blowoff valve? The new blitz and the Apexi dual chamber are pretty sweet. The HKS is also pretty nice.

4. You don't need to buy an aftermarket wastegate. Worry about that when you buy a nice fancy turbo.

5. You can almost take your pick of EBCs, but if it were my money, I would buy the new Blitz SBC-iD and Power Meter. That is, if you can't wait to just buy a chip that properly tunes fuel and timing at the same time.

6. If money is no object, investigate a TecII or Haltech. They are complete aftermarket engine management systems, and boost control is just one of their _many_ features.

7. Needless or not, I'd still love a one piece CF front end with some struts :D
MichiganRS 06-11-2001 06:13 PM

CF race skin hood is 5 lbs and a street version would be around 7-10 lbs whats the weight of teh stock unit?
SolidRhino 06-12-2001 05:45 PM

That cf WRX hood would look sweet on my MBP MY02 RS!! If someone finds out where to get one tell me please!
Michael 06-12-2001 06:49 PM

i will have them shortly... most likely around the end of july.
will keep everyone posted

SK00Impreza 06-12-2001 10:22 PM

Hey Michael. I'd definitely love to see pics soon! Does it include a carbon fiber hood scoop as well? eh eh, wink wink?
Michael 06-13-2001 01:05 AM

well right now we are debating if it will be worth it to make the scoop in cf.
if so should we make the whole thing one peice or two seprate peices..
as in the hood and scoop is not one whole peice.
most like we want to see how much would it cost to make the scoop in cf..
if it cost too much we might not make it.
we don't want to sell a cf hood scoop that cost 500 to make it...or 500 to sell to customers.. to me i think that is just too much for a scoop.
well i will work some thing out...
soon my friends soon...
will keep everyone posted...

I wouldn't put a hood scoop in so the price will be less. Plus, it gives us a reason to install a nifty lookin' front mount intercooler. :)
Leonardo 06-13-2001 01:00 PM

That grill is made by Subaru!

And here is a link to the thread as where to get them! http://www.i-club.com/cgi-bin/ubb6/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=32&t=000184

I think it makes a lot more sense to make the hood in two pieces. And make the scoop like the STi ones and make a reverse scoop for those planning on a front mount intercooler or RS guys.

I beleive stever (the guy making the 22B kits) is planning on making these parts.
SK00Impreza 06-13-2001 11:13 PM

Well I personally hate the looks of carbon fiber hoods without hood scoops on light colored cars. Any color other that blue ridge pearl or black is too light for it to blend in atleast with the cf. I have a WR Blue WRX and in my opinion would look bad with a cf hood with the stock hood scope. But as you said, 500 bucks is certainly too much for a hood scoop if it will cost that much. And yes, if you do end up making one, STi size would be the smartest decision.

Someone said this before on here... but just an FYI that CF hood on the pic is Subbies and they don't plan on making it any time soon....

Second why the hell would you want to buy a waste gate when you have a good BoV? Waste Gates act the same as BoV's just do it in a different way, it's all preference...

Thrid.... the point of a CF hood on a rice boy's car is NOT to blend ib, it's to look as chico put it... "dope" He could give less of a crap if it weights less he's just trying to impress his "boyz."

Obviously if he wanted to do it solely for weight reduction he would do that last and work on tearing the guts out first...

It's the same reason he said "but i would like a loud blow off valve" he could careless about preformance

(hehe chico a lot of the peeps on this board aren't honduh ricers... so they don't understand the concept of show, *cough* keith *cough* they think if it has no purpose for racing it shouldn't exist... these are also the same people who drive the speed limit and don't condone street racing... why did they tweak their car out then? beyond me...)

I said a lot not all.. chill... you all know where you stand :p

Lastly, a carbon hood needs a carbon duct and if you took that duct off it'd not only be expensive and a pain in the ass to make a FMIC it'd also make your car look like a newage RS... but if you left the TMIC duct aluminum, that'd look silly.... so find a away to make it all carbon... if they can't afford it.... to bad! :D

Might I suggest a few things?

1. Perhaps make the hood scoop the same size as the one in the J-spec STI. It's larger, and might justify it's cost a bit, since noone can seem to find a place to get those scoops.
2. Have you considered making a hood similar to the rally car? I personally think the WRX needs heat extractors. Zero sports appears to be working on a hood with vents for this very purpose.
123 wrx 4 me 06-14-2001 12:23 AM

What kind of grill is that? and those side vents beside the grill looks sweet, what company make those??

Also, how much does a Tech2 ecu cost??
ruf 06-14-2001 08:25 AM

Here's my vote for NO SCOOP (waiting for that front-mount IC), and WITH extraction vent. :D
Conduit 06-14-2001 03:48 PM

Yes, you are right, Wastegates and BOVs work on similar principles. HOWEVER, a good BOV will NOT take the place of a wastegate. Period. The wastegate is connected directly to the output of the turbo and vents more than a predetermined amount of pressure to atmosphere. A good BOV will _not_ vent extra pressure, that's why it's a good one =). It's going to vent the spike in the induction path. You need a wastegate, period, unless you have a VATN turbo that can regulate its own boost. If you don't believe me, disconnect your wastegate, plug the hole, and see what happens =).

whtstr 06-28-2001 04:46 PM

it need to have the scoop to be looking good.... like the original hood, otherwise, it will be looking ugly....
Conduit 07-17-2001 02:26 AM

ttt, any news on your work yet, Michael?
SuBart 07-17-2001 02:41 AM

I think that CF hood on a WRX looks wacked. the car already has beauty problems, no need to add to that problem.
Conduit 07-17-2001 02:59 PM

My car is black, and personally, I think black carbon fiber on a black car looks damn cool. Combined with some nice Jun eyelids and front bumper, it should look pretty darn good.
WillSan 07-17-2001 05:09 PM

MY Scooby is Silver and I think it would look evil w/ CF hood...and CF mirrors and CF wing and...Opps! Got carried away:D   :D
