Cusco stabilizer bar with diffuser... OMG PITA!!!! (*Pics)
So...
Spazegun and I decide to install my last and final defi gauge(EGT)... w00t w00t! and install the cusco rear stabilizer bar with diffuser...

Let me just tell you this right now.. WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS for the stabilzer bar!!! It took us 4 hours!!! FOUR HOURS..

THEN after we get the bar undernethe the car bolted up the damn diffuser would not fit.. the reason why it won't fit is because subaru designed the diffuser for people that have STRAIGHT exhaust... well since I have the TXS RFL... this posed just a little bit of a problem...?

So here are some pictures of us hacking it!..lol

And finally me looking high...at that point I very well could have been because it seemed like everything was going wrong..lol

Here are all the defi's... oil temp wasn't warmed up yet...

and the EFT closey

Ill post pics of the diffuser in the morning... honestly though if I didn't get that part for free I would have never purchased it... and going forward will never buy/recommend it from cusco..lol
Actually looking at it now you can hardly tell it has a diffuser unless you bend down and start looking...

I am tired and smelly and hungry... time for shower and food... :-o

Lol that sucks... I still think the part looks good though. Just tell yourself your chassis is now a few percent stiffer :p

Love my Defi's too

Why is it so hard to bolt the stabilizer bar up? I installed my rear sway bar by myself.. all i needed was two hands an my face... which ended up holding up that little box full of coal for emissions on the right side. I'd like to see those installed pics though from laying on the ground 5ft behind the car.

The stabilizer is a lot bigger, and mounts in a more difficult location than a sway bar my friend.

LOL you then never installed the rear stabilizer bar.... the sway bar is easy yes... with this stabilzer bar you have to unbolt everything.. and the mounts that hold the bar... then you put the stabilizer bar in between the brackets and then the sway bar, then you have the brackets that grip around the sway bar and they ALL have to line up... all doing this while trying to thread the one bolt that you don't have enough leverage or torque to spin the bolt...arg!
lol

But yeppers I'll get pics for ya of the diffuser... well see... it was kinda dark when I was looking at it so it might look more apealing in the morning..hahah

I told you you'd hate it. It's easier if you just let the charcoal canister hang by down by the tubing to give access to the passenger side bracket bolt. Pretty easy, it gets a little harder when you use a bigger sway bar like the Cobb though. Took me two hours once I figured out that I can just let the charcoal canister drop and move the filler tube aside.

nice gauges, has anyones else had issues fitting the Cusco bar? I was thinking of doing it myself once I can come up with some excuse like it improving gas mileage to convince my wife! Don't fancy spending 4 hours on my back to fit it though.
biba028 07-19-2006 06:50 AM

i'd definitely use a dremel with that instead of using an actual old style saw.
BakedCookies 07-19-2006 08:55 AM

wow, now i know what my legs look like to other people..
InfamousDX 07-19-2006 09:50 AM

damn you're diesel dude!!
thsiao 07-19-2006 10:31 AM

My DC Sports exhaust is straight so my diffuser fit in perfectly :)...

Some people pop that Cusco brace on with no problem, and some people have to be committed afterwards. Sorry you fell into the latter camp, but damn, those gauges look nice, at least! Looking forward to seeing some shots of the diffuser.

 "new style" saws don't look much different
ckanderson 07-19-2006 02:57 PM

lol.. it took me like 30 min...

That's what I would expect if no dremel is needed. Its all about jacking the car up to the correct height. When I did the sway bar I found that if you jacked the car up too high nothing lined up but if the car was on the ground it was too far the other way. If you get the right height you can unbolt the support for the swaybar on one side and losen the other without removing it. Then you can slide the new bar under and losely fasten the bolt just a little, repeat on the other side and once that is in tighten down both sides. Then I would jack the car up heigher and check everything out for clearance and install the plastic diffuser. With the sway bar I needed a swivel socket so it might be helpful here too.

LOL Jesus..!!..lhahaha

Yea yea, my legs are hairy...

But yea the diffuser wasn't the bad part, that was a 15 minute cut job with that little saw... we didn't have a dremel availble so that is what was used... did the job perfectly fine :-P

We had the car backed up on ramps... we unbolted the charcoal box but it wasn't dangling... it was still kinda in the way...

I thought about shaving the hair but... I have heard from MANY guys of mine that were swimmers and they are in hell right now everytime it grows back...eekkk..lol

I forgot to snap pictures today but I am definatly snapping them in the morning!

my helix exhaust is angled a little bit and it fits with the cusco diffuser with room to spare. and the install took only like an hour, cause that damned charcoal canister and i had to swap anti-roll bars, and search for my old bolts now that i think about it. but it was super easy.

btw, your gauges look really nice :)

Thanks :-)

Yea I kinda wish that it would have fit fine... but you can't even tell I hacked away at the one side..lol The RFL REALLY does angle out... I should have removed the stock heatshield undernethe the car for the stock exhaust because my RFL doesn't come ANYWHERE near it or under it...lol
