Denver ProSolo
So what happened, Josh? I take it you couldn't compete in the SuperChallenge? Did you have to leave for home or something?

Anyone know why Motonishi was back in his Civic?
j-rho 07-24-2006 12:56 PM

Ken's been running a Camaro in ESP, but that car wasn't available for that Pro and he had an itching to drive. Being the cheap guy he is, instead of getting new tires, he ran on some MXs first run on 2 years ago...
trhoppe 07-24-2006 01:02 PM

Results no worky....
AndrewSS 07-24-2006 01:10 PM

They changed them to PDF. Why did they do that?

I have them as HTML if anyone wants them.

All tour and pro results have now disappeared. Looks like I may be hosting them tonight when I get home. I D/L them all this morning in HTML format... so I *know* they were there.

Aaaaah, no wonder Karl Asseily was in Denver.

Too bad Bill's car (Which Karl was co-driving) broke after just one run. Apparently the bolt on the ball joint sheared off leaving the wheel a little "floppy".

Blew up 1st gear on my last competition run..... fun time..... :(
Draken 07-25-2006 12:16 AM

Bummer Josh. Sorry to hear about it. At least you got the win!

Congrats on that.

Ironically enough, I was in Denver too, but I didn't see Karl, nor the Auto-X.

I just know Karl is in CO because I used to work with him.

Seems to be a bad luck year for both of us Josh. You blew the diff and now a tranny and we started with a tranny before blowing our diff. I don't know if you are planning to replace or rebuild but if you're replacing PM me, our local dealer might be able to get you a price cheaper than elsewhere even after shipping.
jcroy66 07-25-2006 08:30 AM

Ah Josh, that SUCKS. :(:(:( I'll give you the same advice everyone gave me - your best bet is a new tranny. Seems like everyone who went reman had their trannies blow again in fairly short order. Although I admit I am seriously considering rebuilding our blown one so that we have a spare in case we lose a tranny at a big event.
You didn't let a woman drive did you? :p
:p:p:p I'll have you know that I let a boy (i.e. Phil) drive my car and he blew up my second gear.
KC 07-25-2006 09:00 AM

All results are back on-line.
trhoppe 07-25-2006 09:36 AM

So I wasn't the *only* one to break stuff. My car just started autoxing *way* before any of your guys' cars did and then until I replaced the tranny with new, I kept on breaking the rebuilds very quickly.

Well third place wasn't what I was hoping for in STU but it is better than a stick in the eye. Unfortunately it doesn't help me for the Finale. =/ Denver is by far the grippiest surface I have ever run on. Between the high grip concrete and the downhill start it was giving me fits trying to launch the car. I had one 1.9s 60' but more often then not I had 2.1s-2.3s 60', they were awful. I could not manage to do the ebrake and be smooth on the clutch at the same time, kept bogging almost every time. My co-driver on the other hand launched with consistent 1.8s 60s (he got second place).

The winner of STU was Mark Sipe in his very well prepared RX-8. He managed to run fast Sunday morning and take the lead and eventually the win. His co-driver, Debbie Kerswill drove in L2 and actually had a class winning time (STU) on the right side of 33.566.

we broke a gear in the formula ford this weekend too. knocked a tooth off of 3rd gear. fortunately we had a spare that was close (picked up 5mph in 3rd gear) and some gear oil. i've officially popped my hewland gearbox rebuild cherry. w00t!

nate - really liked being able to replace the gear without even removing the tranny from the car but wished the car were a little higher off the ground while working on it. (usually you'd find 3 other guys, pick the car up, and place it on saw horses or a workbench)

So you're saying that in high-altitude, an underpowered/undertorqued N/A motored RWD car beat Turbocharged AWD cars with over 2x the torque and about 100 more HP?
His co-driver, Debbie Kerswill drove in L2 and actually had a class winning time (STU) on the right side of 33.566.
Nice job Debbie!! Woot!

As for launching on a hill, what has worked for me at the 2 hill starts (05 Atlanta and 06 DC) is to put the e-brake down on the first yellow. At both locations, I didn't roll enough in that brief time to cause any problems and it avoided the issue of trying to launch at the same time as putting the e-brake down.

Only time it caused me problems was my 2nd Saturday morning run on the left side at DC. With the weather forecast, there were no guarantees we'd get another crack at dry runs. Since I was sitting on a +2 run on that side (which was actually called in as a +3), I knew I needed to not red-light. So I thought "OK, I'll give it a little extra time". But then the second light was already on, and I thought "oh crap, I didn't put the e-brake down yet!!!", panicked, put the e-brake down, and WENT. Oops. 0.416 RT. :furious: So I really lucked out that Saturday afternoon was dry. Whew!

I lost to Wilcox and Barclay at the tour, I didn't do the pro, but I'm sure the result would have been similar. Isley just likes to give us local Subie hacks a hard time.

The course ran like this, start, turn, offsets, sweeper, slolom, sweeper, slolom, finish. Not a power course at all, it was a grip course that rewarded drivers that pushed the edge.

So yes, the 500lb lighter, 1" wider tired, lower CG'ed car won.
