Dual Filament HID bulbs? part 1

Dual Filament HID bulbs?

Does anyone know if this is true that some 9007 HID kits come with dual filament bulb so you don't lose your high beams? I have seen may kits for 9007 HID lights, and all of them state that you will LOSE your high beams. Dan at VIVID RACING stated that the Philips kit he sells for the 9007 deos have dual filaments. Please let me know if you have any info on this. Thanks.

"This kit is made by Phillips and is the SAME exact kit used in the Audi cars, they make them for Audi.. The kit has both filaments in the bulb so you DO NOT lose your high beams. The kit is available in 2 models, one that looks like the Audi, BMW - Purple and the Mercedes - White. The prices are $550 and $500 respectively. Sizes available are:
H4
H7
9005
9006
9007"

I can't say for sure whether or not the Phillips HIDs that Vivid is selling are dual filaments. Unless the price of HID's dropped considerably within the last few months, $500 for a pair of dual filament HID's sounds like a steal. I could be wrong, though. I know one member of this board, CRAZY KEN, has an HID kit in his GT. I'm pretty sure they're the phillips HIDs but I know that he lost his high beams.

If you want, I know of a company, Bell of HID, that sells dual filament HIDs, that DO NOT lose the high beam. Here's the sight, but I warn you, the prices reflect the cost of a Dual filament lamp (read: paying for TWO sets of HIDs).

As an aside, I would still be skeptical of the dual "filament" HIDs because, if I'm not mistaken, the HIDs require a significant "charge time" before the xenon gas is ignited. Switching between high and low beams could pose a problem as the reaction time between changeover increases.

For example: you go from a crowded city street to a deserted country back road. You need extended light coverage so you flick on the highs. Ooops, no highs, you're gonna have to wait till the gas gets charged. By then you prolly hit the deer standing in front of the car. Eww, that would suck.

But that's just an independent thought. Don't quote me on that.

True!

What have you people been smoking? If the bulb has a filament, it ain't HID.

In the case of the Porsche 911 Turbo Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, a small cover in each single-bulb headlamp moves mechanically to switch between low and high beam. This allows a single bulb to produce either a low beam pattern or a high beam pattern, depending on the position of the small cover.

John's Right

Yeah - John's right, HIDs send a charge through a xenon filled chamber to create light - no filiment at all. An added bonus is they should never "burn" out like a halogen - they should last longer than the car...
CRAZY KEN 07-18-2001 05:22 PM

I don't have high beam no more!!!

...but trust me you dont need them...or at least I dont!!! :D:D:D

I also replaced my OEM foglights with 3" Round Cuzo foglights and replaced the 55 watts bulb with a 100 watts hyper white bulb...&&&&&...I installed another set of Cuzo Dual lamp Spot/Driving light in the front air dam & used 100watts hyper white bulbs as well!!!

So I could if I wanted to (which I do a lot) have all my lights on:

H.I.D. Headlights (leveled and centered, but still get high beamed BY ON COMING DRIVERS)

200 watts worth of foglight power that are angled out to the sides (so I can see on coming deers :) )

400 watts worth of spot&driving light that are angled higher than headlights and slightly off to the sides (acts as my high beams)

HERE TAKE A LOOK:

BBOOYY ... Do people move out of my WAY!!! :D:D:D

You guys can think what you want or believe what you might have mis read, these are HID kits that include everything in the picture. They include both High and low beams and are made by Philips. They are for sale and LOTS of people use them. Your options are to buy STI ones for $2000 + or get these for $550.
You say what are we smoking, I say quit being cheap and if you can buy them, then get them because they give you the feature and look that you want.

You complain to much about what you think the product really is, then buy, if it is not what you want return it.

Enough explaining on the product.

HIDs

Does anyone else have any info on this product, as VIVID does not seem to know anything about them other than what the box says. Thanks for your help and info.
TaiChih 07-19-2001 01:39 AM

If VIVID could explain how the high beam/ low beam works, or even describe what the bulb looks like then I would believe it. By the way, I have HID's and I know what high/low HID bulbs look like.:rolleyes:FLAME SUIT ON:cool:
Mumbles 07-25-2001 05:21 PM

Well vivid you got your group buy on... Did they get sent out yet? I would love to see these dual filament bulbs... Seriously.

Yeah, i'd like to see a picture of what the bulb for Low+high beam HID look like !

I've seen the Bellof(or could be some other brand) with the Low+high, it's actually a H4 socket/bracket with one D2S and H1 combined, and that costs a bundle(just for the design i guess)
vividracing 07-25-2001 07:27 PM

Hi Dan, I'm still tossing around trying these out. Just hesitant on being a guinea pig. :p They sound pretty sharp though!:D
vividracing 07-25-2001 08:07 PM

Any other guinea pigs interested. Long term hook ups for helping out the HID cause.
thanks
RBPWRX 07-26-2001 12:34 AM

I'm interested..Dan, please email me your "special price" for the HIDs..but I need them for my Morettes. Don't know if that will qualify me as a guinea pig. :D

I promise to take pics when I get them installed (got a digi-cam always by my side) and post a complete review.

Let me know what you think..
vividracing 07-26-2001 12:47 AM

I already have 1 REAL pig and they are going to do the job for me, however, for the rest of you if you contact me by tonight , 7/25/01, I will give you the similar price for the help and insight with your pictures and comments. I will give you recognition on our page ad future discounts. Email me if you want the set, price is under $500 for the test run, but that is all I can say, email me offline.

Thanks
Mumbles 08-05-2001 03:14 AM

Please forgive me for being a d!ck, but i just don't want anyone to think there is a twin HID kit out there for $500. when there isn't. You say yes, this kit has both low and high beams... Now you pot a kit on EBAY and it says it does lose High Beam.. I don't get it , which is it?

Hey D!ck:

Look at the date of the boost. Now that they have been tested, the real answers have come out. They indeed are a single filament. The dual filaments are available for about $850.

Thanks for digging up old info.
Mumbles 08-05-2001 03:25 AM

haha

Well this isn't an old thread really. Last posted on a week and half ago. I wanted to clear this up since you didn't, and if someone does a search later, they will now have an answer without having to post the question again.

Raybrig

I don't know about Philips but here's how RAYBRIG Hi/Lo HID works

The bulb moves back and forth slightly to give a different reflection angle.

jacobhorn 08-06-2001 12:27 AM

Finally, the truth comes out. Thank you for finally posting this. I am glad I did not buy them under the pretence that the lights were really dual beam. I would not have been a happy camper.
SKroWL 08-06-2001 10:02 AM

Hmmm...

Aren't there rules against vendors posting bunk product advertisements on I-club?

bump by the way.
