Sleeping with the enemy...

:D ... I am getting a chance to drive an evo tomorrow. Dave Bruner is in my region(national STU Champ in an STi). My first time driving anything that fast was a fun run after the event today...I ended up not too far behind and I think tomorrow I may have a shot to take him down after driving the car more then 100 seconds...I'm stoked, its such an awesome car...I like subi's but I think it is my duty to take him down!

Heh sorry Roy but he won't be there tommorrow, he was only doing the Sat. event. The STIs really layed the smack down today (and have been all year). Whose EVO are you driving?

Sorry I'm not there today. I had a great day yesterday. I've been struggling a bit this year but yesterday I had a couple of awesome runs.
The STU class is well attended here with good drivers and that motivates me to work hard and for me that is what competition is all about!
And when Phil co-drove my car and clobbered me, I knew it wasn't about the car, it was about me--Thanks Phil.

uggg, glad you wernt there...I got beat by Masuo by more then half a second. Luckily I was able to atleast take one of the scoobies down(Dale Bahr), yesterday on my fun run I thought I had enough time out there to make a challenge but today I was doing every thing I could and nada. Driving these cars is no easy task...my sides hurt, I dont know how you do it every weekend. If Tim ever trusts me again maybe I can give it another try...

it might just be that it is Tim's car. It's used to getting beat by numerous WRX's so it probably was more the car's fault than anything :D

Funny, I don't recall ever getting beat by you cooleyjb.
Plus, today, I think there was a Subaru fan on corner 3 that said I hit that cone on my fastest run. That mystery cone cost me second place. Even so, Masuo had a great run that I couldn't touch.
Not feeling so bad about my driving now that Roy, Jim Harn, Cashmore, and Colin have never blown away any of my runs by much more than a few tenths this season. Harn thinks it may be the tires. I'm beginning to think that they don't like the heat. Who knows?

Hey I never said the Evo wasn't well driven. I said it probably has a phobia of some sort involviing Subarus.
And you can't trust those Subaru drivers out on course.

interesting. from what I've heard they deal with the heat better the azenis 215's. maybe you should just give up and get some R-compounds and play in SM with Daddio and company  .
Jay and I are probably going to go to the kook's after the Azenis go flat, maybe we'll put them on my rims and run them back to back and see how they like the miller park surface comparatively

the azenis probably are worse, but we were running every three- five minutes...they were really hot!

Definitely not.
We won't tell Tim who missed picking up a cone, giving Masuo his STU-winning rerun in the morning. ;)
P.S. Chris Fenter is running the same tires, and his morning runs have been consistently faster than the afternoon runs the last few events. It could be the heat or it could be mental. Also, what pressures are you running? IIRC Chris is running pretty low pressures (high 30's).

We were having to spray the tires down a lot. Ran out of water once and used half a container the second time. Even with 5 minutes the water got the tires pretty cool between runs. We ran 39psi front and 37 rear the whole day. The Hankooks just don't seem to roll over much if at all and don't need much air. I think the Hankooks are just as bad as the Azenis as far as heat goes. The RE070s on Bruener's just seem to get better with more heat.
Chris ran within .2s of his morning time (with 1 cone) and I just about equalled his best morning time (with a couple cones). The car didn't feel any different to me between morning and afternoon, the tires still needed to be cooled down.
Tim what kind of camber/alignment settings are you using? Your car just seemed to understeer a lot on corner entry, it didn't seem to bite very well and I think that was the difference. Chris' car was very similar, just needed to be more patient with the turn-in with the Hankooks but the grip of them in those transitions and the slalom was very good.

Heh I didn't miss it I just couldn't get it put back up in time. I timed a few cars through that section and the difference between some cars was as little as 13 seconds.

Phil,
I kind of wish you could have driven my car in a fun run to verify what you just said. I agree with you about corner entry understeer. The car has no problem with understeer mid corner or under power out of a corner. In fact, it stays very well planted. I am going back to Big Bear to get some negative camber taken out of the rear. I have 1.5 negative rear right now with 2.7 negative front. Also, I might try some new tires. I will wait for GRM's report though. Rumor has it the 615's win.
So, did I hit a cone on my fastest run or not? I just want to know because I really don't think I did.

I'm out of town, and I saw you hit the cone Tim. :)
Tim I've had good luck going to -1 in the rear for camber, I think its loosened it up a bit without losing much grip. I'd like to try chris's car vs. mine - our suspension are identical other than he's got 6-7 degrees castor vs. my 3, and he's got the kooks vs my 215's.

I was thinking of making even more of a drastic change and going to -.5 in the rear. I miss my rear-wheel drive RX7, so I want some oversteer for a change dangit.

I wouldn't call them identical...he's not riding around on blown struts.
Seriously, I rode in his car and it didn't bounce at all, unlike yours where I feel bruised by the end of a run.

The car didn't bounce at all at the race in Toledo. Of course the surface was perfectly smooth.
Hey Tim. I saw that you are signed up for the Peru tour. From what a few people have told me they said to set up the WRX as loose as a I can, so maybe the .5 camber might be good for that round.
Also Phil, are you and Chris trailing his car down to peru??

Nah we are just going to drive seperate cars. His family lives in Indy so he is staying down there a few more days, so we'd just be trailering one way, which doesn't make much sense.
Chris' car is very smooth for the spring rates he's running.
Peru is bumpy and broken concrete but it has an incredible amount of grip.
