Great North Woods Rally of New Hampshire.

This was last week.

Was anyone there besides me?

We have to set up a meeting place next time. :D
AHadjiminas 11-01-2002 02:06 PM

Andrew

snicker. :D

Some of us NER-region folks were more interested in seeing the inaugural event succeed so it'll come back in future years.

We definitely NEED to support the local events! :) I can't wait until Maine Winter! :D
DCRallyDave 11-01-2002 03:38 PM

Work?

Work? Whats that?

Recee, snow, Buffum, thousands of spectators, the Casino welcoming party, cute Export cigarette promo girls, pace notes, La Pax stage, Bateram, scenery galore, wildlife (saw a whale in the Baie (French for bay), podium ceremonial start, televised, international teams with real GrA cars, FIA observers, real beer, .........
Besides in division ClubRally points, why would you go to NorthWoods?

NERegion Folk who prefers Canada
2001 NEDiv open class and PGT class codriver champion
Pinochle 11-01-2002 03:40 PM

Mmm... sounds yummy! But it's also in Hell ([email protected]@D@)!!! :(
DCRallyDave 11-01-2002 03:48 PM

Charlevoix

Did I mention real beer?
Pinochle 11-01-2002 03:51 PM

Bears are better! :alien:
DCRallyDave 11-01-2002 04:04 PM

Bears

Forgot to mention the bear. One walked down the road for 300 meters in front of a team during recee. (making pacenotes)

And Andrew Havas steaked down the final service area in only orange jockey shorts.
Pinochle 11-01-2002 04:08 PM

Whoa! Sounds like crazy awesome fun!

Hopefully there will be better scheduling next year. That way events won't conflict! :D

Like you even have to ask!

Snow, sleet, and freezing rain, of course!

Plus, we managed to figure out how to get Mark's chrono show thousandths at the SS8 finish control. :)

Pinochle 11-01-2002 04:15 PM

Haha! All that is fun stuff. But from the spectators' point of view, the cars were going sooooo slow! I know a lot of the drivers had a lot of trouble putting down power because their just wasn't enough traction. :(
DCRallyDave 11-01-2002 04:23 PM

Traction

Pro Canadian & International teams using C5s and appropriate snow rallytires vs. NEDiv Clubbies on gravel tires on slippy stage surfaces. Go Pro for a show in snow.
Pinochle 11-01-2002 04:26 PM

Haha! Got any more rhymes up your sleeve?

But seriously, there's prorally and there's clubrally. Gotta represent them all. It's people like us that eventually turn a club event into a pro event! Let's persevere and make every event elite! :D
DCRallyDave 11-01-2002 04:40 PM

Event status

And a national event into a WRC round. It would be too cool if the WRC came to N. America and that is why we need to support Charlevoix.
Kha0S 11-01-2002 04:46 PM

DC, and Pinochle... I'm with both of you. :D

I have nothing against the folks who went up to Charlevoix, and I'm happy that you guys provided to a turnout that might get it upgraded to an FIA event! You have no idea how much I'd love to have a WRC event within a day's drive of my home.

Similarly, I think that a club level event has a completely different appeal -- workers get much better exposure to the event and its underpinnings, as well as increased driver/codriver availability... supporting regional club events helps keep the grassroots base of rally alive, and keep events and competitors feeding up from the bottom.

In a day and age where specialstage is full of threads about the simultaneous over-commercialization and under-exposure of rally, international events like Charlevoix help expose the sport to the rest of the world, and local events like Great North Woods let people get into the sport for a lower price and more accessible events.

My hat goes off to everyone who runs or works any rally, as we all bring something a little different to the table, and each and every one of us furthers the sport with our own contributions.

DCRallyDave 11-01-2002 04:55 PM

Not a ProRally Snob nor elitist

I'm with you. I've been event chair of half dozen rallyXs, a couple rallysprints and a clubRally myself and gone to work other organizer's events as well.

Hopefully GNW and RIC don't have a scheduling conflict next year.
Pinochle 11-01-2002 04:57 PM

Good call Andrew!

Everyone here rules! :D
Pete 97 GS-T 11-01-2002 05:50 PM

I was there. Got a bunch of pics if you didn't see 'em already.

Pete 97 GS-T 11-02-2002 10:49 AM

Were you one of the guys in the Peugeot? Or at the end of stage 2, or standing with me on stage 1?
Pinochle 11-02-2002 11:02 AM

Haha! I was in the broken Peugeot!

Pinochle = P = Pat = Patrick. :D
Pinochle 11-02-2002 11:03 AM

Stage One, I think you were standing with Billy and Ben.

I in the area with Rob and Kate. :D
