Has Anyone Shaved off their trunk keyhole?
Kind of a weird idea, but I have an actuator to pop my trunk from remote and the handle inside the car in case my battery dies.
I'm wondering if anyone has debadged their trunk and shaved and filled the keyhole?
I might just paint it bodycolor for now and see what I think, but i wanted to see pix if anyone has done this.
Thanx!
Bry.

I think that would look really good, especially if you have a completely debadged trunk...
If you paint the lock body color post some pics of it so we can see how that looks...

So if the actuator dies, every time you have to open your trunk, you have to open your car, get in, and pop it. Completely impractical if you ask me unless youre afraid someone is going to pick the lock and that likelihood is slim and none. If thats the case, you might as well do your car doors too. Id leave as-is.

i dont think BrysImpreza cares what you would do, he asked for pics not opinions

I know it's pointless, but so is shaving your door handles off or debadging your trunk, for my purposes it's cosmetic, I almost never use the key to open it anyway.
It was just a thought as to something a little different.
I'm going to try painting it first.
Next I'm going to remove the antenna and fill the hole. I had an internal antenna on my last car and it got better reception then the stock one did. It's the little details that make a car look cool. :D
BTW Thanx Schleppy / RexWag!!! It's rare when someone has a nice thing to say about anything on this board lately, kinda sad :(

I don't understand, what is "shaving door handles"? I assume this to mean removing them, but what do you replace them with? Bondo? Can someone please explain this -
Thanks:confused:

Someone shaved their trunkhole before. I remember it was a red GC8, forgot whos it was though but it looked clean. :) Sordid Philosopher, "shaving" means making it totally smooth, like nothing was ever there. Check out the Scooby of the Week. (Or is it Scooby of the Year  ) He has shaved door handles. To open it you need some sort of remote to pop it open.

Oh and to shave stuff, you need to take it to a bodyshop. They'll fill in the whole with fiberglass or something and sand it everything down till it's totally smooth, then paint over it. You need to take it to a good bodyshop though, or else it'll look like crap. Pretty common carshow-car mod. :)

Thanx! I was digging around looking for that Steel Blue Mica RS from Puerto Rico that had the handles shaved down.
If I do fill it, I have a guy who does excellent work, he painted my hoodscoop and SYMS bumper

FYI people don't "pick" trunk locks. The easiest way to open most trunk locks without a key is a screwdriver and a hammer. Most of them will just pop right out with a little force, then, if that doesn't push the metal bar that opens the lock enough to open it, you just reach in with pliers and pull it yourself.
Trunks are VERY easy to get into. If you live in an area where this is likely to happen, trunk shaving is the best way to make your car look good and solve the problem. Or, at least on GC8's, you can reach in with your hand into the trunk lid (when it's open) and pop out the locking bar from the lock itself so that the keyhole can't get access to it.

Bry, you mentioned an internal antenna... How's that work? Is that one of them antennas that wraps around the windshield? Like how is that installed and stuff? Sounds pretty interesting.

I am planning on shaving my keyhole cuz its looks so out of place on my debadged trunk lid. I never use it anyway and just open the trunk with the level inside the car.
Do you guys have any ideas how much it would cost to shave it?

Bankheist: Thanx for the correction. I'm a bit retarded due to it being exam week (no sleep)
Hazdaz: Exactly, one of the windsheild dealies, it only cost like $30 and I picked up better reception.
And here's the bumper:

Vestas, is your RS really yellow? Post some pics up! I'm not trying to hijack this thread but it sounds like there some really badass GC8s in here! :D BrysImpreza, looks good. :) Do you have any other pics? It's kinda hard to make out since your car's black.

A what? Speaking of shaving, I also remember seeing pics of a silver GC8 that shaved the indented horizontal line off the trunk. That was interesting.

countersunk meaning it never sticks out past the body plane... like most cars

I'm getting a Cf deck lid without the key hole.
I think it will look better w/o it.
I've never used my key to open it neither.
O' and yes I am going to paint it to match my color!

Remote Trunk Pop
I see you mentioned you want to shave the key hole because of the looks and because you have an actuator to pop your trunk. Do you have info on how you did this? I tried doing a search but could not find anything.
I would love to be able to remotely pop my trunk. Can this be done with the stock keyless remote?
Thanks for any information.

Nope it can't be done witht he stock keyless, I put in an aftermarket alarm / keyless entry.
It has 2 extra options for either
1. 30 Second Headlight Turn on
2. Window Roll up / Down
3. Trunk pop
I just bought an aftermarket actuator to put in and rig up to my alarm. There's been more then one occasion that I've had tons of stuff in my arms and needed to pop my trunk, so this will make life alot easier.
The keyhole removal, just aesthetic.
