How to put a 52mm guage in the left vent of an 05 STi?
Hey all -

I'm going to order one more guage for my car - EGT and I'd like to relocate my oil temp guage to the left vent of my 05 STi. I have autometer nexus guages - 52mm. Does anyone know of a kit or a way to install the guage there? I did a search but nothing looked too promising..

Thanks!
Jeff

tell u right now......a 52mm gauge will be too small for the AC vent hole.I did mine and put in a 60mm gauge. It will look flush once u put the AC vent back on.Now to make it stay there is a different story.Pm me and i can let u know on the details....

I already have the 52mm guages... Id really like to install one more guage... No one makes somethin to put a 52mm in my vent??

They do sell the air vent which was made to put 52mm gauge in it but I don't think they make it anymore. I think it was made by Omari.

it was made by tcg

nooo.. don't doooeeett!!

Jeff, either get a stick-on "omega" shape holder, or wait for 2 more gauges and get a triple hood in the middle.

Why do guys respond saying they know how to make it fit, but want you to PM them? Is it some kind of big secret they don't want to share to everyone?

I used the dremel and cut it to make the 52mm gauge a tight fit, it looks good and was free.

they don't want everyone using their big-HP-gaining tricks!

How did you dremel the vent? Do you still get some air flow through whats left?

Or... get the little gauge pod that jamie sells. I don't remember the website offhand, but if you PM her, she'll point you in the right direction.

PM Subygal and ask her for her upper dash gauge pod
ekw 06-20-2006 03:44 PM

for the Subiegal single gauge pod go here

then click on "For Sale" on the menu across the upper part of the page.

Yea right now thats my second choice that is fast becoming my first choice. I found that awhile ago. If I got that Id just relocate boost up there as it would be closer to my line of site anyway..

good call.. you will regret putting it in the ac vent if you use the ac...
essteaeye 06-20-2006 05:12 PM

I dont regret losing my vent, the car is like an ice box with the a/c on. Once the entire car gets to the right temp I turn down the fan and relax.

Jeff[/QUOTE]

I still get air flow through it as the gauge doesn't block the entire vent. As far as how to dremel the vent I used a drill bit type multi cutting bit that looks like the knarling on a weight lifting bar.

Modifyd, do you have a pic of your setup?

I'm looking to do the same thing to my STI as I had in my A3. Check out the vent holes around the gauge... fully functional still.

I don't have any pics but it came out similar to your pic of the gauge in your audi.

Bumping an old thread.

I want to do this myself, modifyd did you take the vent out to make the modifications or did you just leave it in place and hack away with the dremmel? I figure if there are shavings they will just blow out eventually

im interested in this as well. seems like a clean solution to mounting the boost gauge. now i just gotta get the guts to install it.
djerickd 12-06-2006 10:21 AM

I've started on this for my 52mm DDS3 display. I ditched the idea of mounting it in the vent ball, what I did was remove the "ball" altogether and set it aside. I then took off the silver trim ring and fabbed a guage mount that fits behind it and is glued into place. the mount was a lid from one of my girls beuuty products but, any 3" round piece of solid material will work. I dremmelled it to fit right inside the trim ring then dremmeled a hole for the guage. I then painted the mount in flat black so it looks like the guage is kinda floating right in the center of the vent. I blocked off the airflow inside the dash with a piece of foam so I get more flow out of the other vents. I will have pics up soon.
