Remove the headlights and pop them out from the inside.
FAR easier than using a screw driver from the outside, and no risk of taking any paint off...
It is REALLY easy to remove the headlight, just pop the grill out and like three bolts holding in the headlights...
Need any more help let me know...

I just lift up and yank outwards but thats because I have sheity aftermarket clears that dont fit right anyways... But when I took the stockers off I used a screwdriver wrapped in a rag...

Ok, here is what you do:
Find a longish flathead screwdriver or something simlilar and wrap it in a thin cloth or material so it won't scratch the paint.
You have to slip the screwdriver in between the sidemarker light and the fender wall from the top(you might have to pry it open alittle before you can get it in there).
There is a metal clip thing holding the light in place and you have to push down on it(from the top) with the screw driver to get the light to pop out. When you put them back on or replace them they just pop back it.

You know the directions are in our owners manuals!
But taking the headlights off and getting at the sidemarkers from the inside would work also, the owners manual gives the pry it with a screwdriver directions that i posted above..

Yeah, i read those, but i tried prying(not from the top) and i actually chipped the paint a little.

remove the headlights.
| krave | 05-09-2002 03:17 PM |
there is a clip towards the top right of the sidemarkers..get a flathead screwdriver with a rag around and there is a place to insert on the top right of the sidemarker..just pop it out

side markers
this is good, i guess i got lucky and took me less than a minute.. all i did was push the whole side marker upwards, push from the bottom of the marker. this made the clip compress and then i just pulled from the bottom of the side marker outwards and.. bam done no screw driver, no chipping no remove the headlights... give it a try..

DO THIS... NOT ANY OF THE OTHER ABOVE SUGGESTIONS. Sheehs you other guys are nuts! If it wont come out easily, push UP harder. Do NOT use a screw driver, even covered.
Of course, you can ignore my advice and expain the missing paint however you want :)

I have had no problem using WRXracer's method on two cars. Didn't even need a screwdriver. Just pushed up from bottom and pulled out from the top. Maybe they're tighter on some cars.

I just did mine last weekend, just take off the grill and pull out the headlights. If you take your time you'll be done in a half hour at most.
| tytlyf | 05-09-2002 10:21 PM |
ok, this is real simple,
Push up on the light, hard if it's not budging.
And pull out from the bottom.
I put some clear corners in, and cant believe how easily these come off. Kinda worried someone gonna just come up and grab them right off.

No screwdrivers, no headlight removal
tytlyf is right on. Just push in on the marker light with your palm and pull up. The "spring" at the top of the light will compress. Then I just grab the bottom of the marker with my fingers (using the same hand) and pull out. I've done this tons of times. Takes two seconds for each one.

i just got my markers today and i wanted to put them on asap so i thought about just trying to pop them off. worked better then i thought. i just pushed up from the bottom with a screwdriver and pulled out... *pop* right off.

New Side Markers
I'll be putting my new side markers on as soon as they
come in. Sounds easy enough. Push up and pull out.
I don't trust me with sharp objects around the car anyway.

That's what I did. No problem. I guess I got that great "rock climbing fingertip" strength! I PULLED up on the bottoms and out they came. Screwdrivers anywhere near the exterior of the car makes me nervous.

Don't use a screwdriver and you don't need to take the headlights off.
Do what the other posts said and push up on the bottom and pull the bottom out. If it is difficult to push up on the bottom, get some rubber gloves or something else that will give you a little better friction and try it. Mine were very difficult to move with my bare hands and when I used rubber gloves, they popped right out. No risk of scratching the paint.

Just realized I said push up from the bottom and pull out from the top. I meant pull out from the bottom. Like the other folks keep saying, it only takes two seconds and you don't need a screwdriver.

I changed mine in about 45 seconds each, hehehe.

My method:
1. Purchase a pair of Zerosports carbon fiber fender vents from vendor of choice.
2. Make an appointment with local Subaru dealer body shop.
3. Drop off car for the day ('cuz they're installing a spoiler, too)
4. Pick up car.
5. Pay the man for 1 hour of labor on each side.
6. Listen to stories of having to remove lights and I think he said part of the front end.
7. Thank goodness I didn't attempt this myself.
8. Enjoy.

My GOD! Are you all THAT mechanically incompetent that you can't figure out how to take a sidemarker lens off? How many of you does it take to change a lightbulb? Jebus!

1. Life is too short to do the things that you can pay other people to do.
2. I make enough money to support #1 as a philosophy.
3. I have absolutely zero desire to drill holes in my car.
4. When the instructions given include "wrap a screw driver with a cloth and very carefully pry it off," um, no thanks. I don't want to screw up such a visible part of the car.

Dude, you just push up on it! That's it! It pops right out!
Oh well, justify it any way you need to... I'm behind you all the way man.
