Is yours like this...

1. The S U B A R U badge on my trunk is crooked. The first U is way off, and the ARU slope upward. Not to sound like a batch, but is this something I can take to the dealer? I could take it off, but I'm not sure I like that look.
2. I have an '04 sedan. Inside the trunk I lift up the floor and all I see is the cavity with the spare tire in it. My buddy's '04 wagon has a storage tray between the floor and the spare. Am I supposed to have one?
Maybe TTIWWOP. brb.

heh, i find that amusing. the U is way off. you could take it to the dealer, but you risk some monkey pulling the badge off to apply another, and messing up the trunk. obviously they would have to fix it, but you may end up without your car for longer than you planned to fix a crooked letter

Your trunk is as expected, only the wagon's get the little compartment.
How long have you had your car? It's very likely the dealer will not accept responsibility, as someone may have vandalized your car.

I've had it since aboot the end of February. I have a picture from the day after I took delivery and it is the same as it is today. I guess someone could've gotten to it on the lot, but I doubt it, because I've tried to shift that bugger back and it won't move.
Honestly, I have to point it out for other people to notice, but it's just one of those things.
edit: thanks for the clarification on the trunk. Just wondering since I had a tray in my Legacy and it was kinda useful.

mine are fine, someone could have rebadged it a while back and put the letters on crooked.

I'm just like you, that emblem would drive me insane.
But, (probably like you also), I'd be so worried a bone head at the dealer will just make it worse I'd probably just debadge the car myself and not bother.
You could go to the dealer and talk to them. See what they say and ask how they would fix something like that. I'm pretty sure they would have to order new letters, because once removed they won't stick back on.

if the dealer accepts responsibility, make sure they put a whole new nameplate on the back. when they get the new one all the letters should be lined up straight on one peice of adhesive and all they have to do is remove the adhesive backing on each letter and stick it on straight.
It can't cost more than $30 for the nameplate so you may just want to remove it off your car first, see if you like it and if not, go buy the namplate from the dealership and put it on yourself.

the first thing I would suspect is that the trunk has been repaired/replaced or repainted at one point and when they put the letters back on they put them on crooked.

my emblems started to rust so i took it to the dealership...they replaced it but they used a flathead to pry it off and now i have scrape marks...
| Snowphun | 05-09-2004 01:28 PM |
That's odd considering they're made of plastic.

My 90 Legacy sedan had a storage compartment. It looked very similar to the wagon's.

Damn, I was hoping no one would bring that up. Ever since I noticed it, that's been on my mind. I bought this brand new from the dealer, it did have 19 miles, but that seemed fine to me. I got it from a dealership I trust and that has a very good reputation.
Whoever brought up checking the history, how can I do that?

there are some online sites to do it using the VIN number, it costs like $20... search on google for "car history report", you should find them

Its easy to debadge the trunk letters. All you need is a blow drier and some floss. Some gasoline for the removal of the excess sticker residue.
you heat the letters up by using the blow dryer and then you use the floss to remove the lettering sliding the floss in between the letters and the paint. JUST BE CAREFULL NOT TO KEEP THE HAIR DRYER IN ONE PLACE FOR TO LONG YOU CAN BLISTER THE PAINT. Just move the hair dryer from side to side. when the letter/s are of all youll need is some double sided tape and viola. You can either fix it or remove it all. Just remeber to clean the paint extremely well other wise when you replace the adhesive it may not stick very well for very long.

You're thinking of CarFax. It will never pull up something like this. CarFax rarely has any accident reporting unless they involve DMV making a change to the title (as in salvaged).

If you bought it new from a dealer, then you shouldn't need to worry. The trunk could have been damaged during shipping and replaced by a drunk person. If you have to know for sure, take your car to a well respected body shop. Then have them look at it and tell you if they think it has been wrecked.

Can I melt the glue enough to just move that one letter?
| Snowphun | 05-10-2004 08:29 AM |
Yes. Then try putting it back on. Read up on the process, you want to use dental floss.

Relax, you're car is fine. Those suggesting the car was damaged are worrying like grandma's.
Mine was exactly the same as yours; same U even. I considered taking it to the dealer, but then I said screw it. Debadging the trunk is the first mod I made, and I've never regreted it.
If you want something to obsess about, just wait till you start collecting stone chips

Yeah, it's stupid to worry about. I'll probably end up just debadging it. As far as the stone chips, I'm pretty well adjusted to getting those since my last Sube was the same way. I think the only thing I have to worry about now is how long I can hold off on the AccessPort!
