Japanese License Plate: On or Off?

I've had this Japanese front plate on my Impreza for awhile and I took it off one day and it almost looked decent. Not completely sure though.
It gets a lot of comments from everyone but with it on, the front end looks kind of "busy". But to me, it doesn't look completely right without it either.
So, which do YOU think looks better? On or off??

Keep it unless you can order a bumper without the license plate mount.

How often is the car driven in Japan?

Probably the same idea as a Euro plate on euro cars.

Euro plate ya say? I ended up getting a plate custom made from the UK. (gt Graphics), it matches my US plate number. Anyway, I got that mounted up front, looks a little different with the blue UK bagde on the side instead of the red Zoll german tourist plate.
Hoping that using my actuall numbers, cops will look the other way a little bit.

The Japanese front plate is not too bad

Thats a really nice GC you need to drop a EJ207 in there ;)
But for the plate....if you have a authentic JDM theme/conversion (sans RHD) then yes. If not then no, it just becomes rice.

I vote OFF.
it looks cleaner without it.
Also wouldn't it block out or disturb the airflow in to the air dam? I'm sure this isn't too big a concern.
keep it off. it looks better that way. my 2 cents.

While I like the look, it's something that I would laugh at if I saw it on public streets in America.

I vote for on!!! if not, dremel the holder out.
Ihad to install mine on an Evo bracket (on bumper, on top of fog cover) due to my FMIC

looks cleaner, off, looks cleaner. I spent ten years in Japan, but don't need a Japanese plate. I've been in Hawaii for three years and still don't run a front plate (required). It's in the trunk and not in the way of my FMIC.

I have my front plate on my dash of my 95. It was to cold the night I had to put the tags on so I just put it on the dash.
It's been there for a week, and I haven't been hastled yet. I have a feeling I am only going to get gruff for it if I get pulled over for something else. It's Required for a front plate in MD, but I see lots of people with the tag on the dash. If you get pulled for no front plate, it's a $50 ticket.

keep it

Does nothing to make the car go faster, you don't need it.
But I still say keep it;)
It just looks like something out of Tokyo Extreme Racer. Your car is otherwise very down-to-business looking, and I think the Nippon plate is a cool touch.

it looks good both ways.... I would keep it off for awhile to give it that clean look... then you can always put it back on... I have always liked "outsider" plates.. but I think I am more keen on the European plates.. cuz they are longer and thinner..

what are your local laws regarding front license plates? around here, we're are not allowed to run without a front plate, and it has to be your registered ones, so cops pull over people with foreign plates, confiscate them, and it's a $100+ ticket for our troubles :(
someone is going to flame me for this but if u are going to do it, do it right! u need a real japanese license plate, not a fake one... it's a pet peeve, sorry, but fake stuff just gets to me :alien:
i bought my jdm plates from ebay. here's an example of a real one that's being auctioned off right now:

I vote LEAVE IT ON~!!! atleast you have choice....in NYC its the LAW~!!:D :D :D i wish i could remove mine since my 02 wrx is black and the NYC license plate is white so it somewhat looks like a rabbit's two front teeth are sticking out....haha if you can picture what im saying.....plus if you ever get a FMIC we have to make our cars look like an EVO (the plate to the side)....
| Brad Nely | 02-15-2004 12:23 PM |
If you have to have the real one, you can at least make the plate smaller........

The rims are 17X7 BBS RK's. They are my absolute favorite rims and I was very fortunate to find a great deal on them.
Thanks everyone for the comments. It's a close race, but right now, Keeping it on is favored more than taking it off. Keep the comments coming!

Keep it on until you can shave the bracket.

On if you lived in Japan, off if you don't. This jdm craze has gone far enough, now we need their license plates:rolleyes:

I bent the top 1" back to a 90 degree angle, then mounted it "under" the bumper with the original screws, right into the plastic.
No problems so far. I got 2 tickets for German plates on my GTI Vr6, so this is as far as I want to go.
A fellow GTI owner actually CUT the top off of his and did this.
