Had a great time in Jamaica with ACP, special thanks to Doug Gore for making sure Mr. Meaney could get us to all the great spectator spots! Looking forward to Rally Jamaica 2007!

Awesome scenery and some serious cars. Thanks for sharing!

How did the rally compare to North American events? Were there more or less advanced cars? Good organization? What was ACP doing down there, just having fun or doing some TV?

A few of the pics were good, but that gallery was mind numbing! I had to give up after randomly clicking on 10 or so and finding 2 or 3 good shots. It needs thumbs, or it needs to be culled down to just your 20 or so best shots...

Jamaica looks beautiful.

Looks like they had quite the crowd too.

There's always some dork in a tall "Dr. Seuss" hat.

Where in Jamaica was this held?
bluetwo 12-27-2006 09:54 AM

Very cool pics man.

Thanks. :)

Nice pics! Looks like a really fun event. I read that in past events all the locals usually dominate the europeans that participate in this race.

So is this a Andrew Comrie-Picard look alike? I'm sure that they have a few of those kicking around all over the world!!! ;)

You have to remember, 2006 was the first year I myself was involved with Rally, so the first question may be better suited for ACP to answer, he will be back in the shop here tomorrow, so I will pin him down and ask. To me however, the event was run very well, everything was on time, and the entire event seemed to be very smooth.

There were a lot more EVO's at this event than US events, that is for certain! As well, three ex-WRC cars made the event very interesting, as I had never seen WRC cars up close and personal... I have some video of the WRC Focus I will make sure to post later today, it was a cool launch to watch!

ACP and I went down for the week, for some R&R and of course the rally! We got a lot of planning done for next year, and we are 95% sure we will run Rally Jamaica next year.

Sorry about all the pictures, I will make sure to pull the best ones out and re-post them for all to see!

Very nice crowd, and yes Jamaica is a beautiful country that sometimes gets a bad rap. We stayed in Trelawny, Kingston (Rally HQ), and the last two days in Negril. We got to see the entire Island, very nice... who wants to go next year? HAHA

Rally HQ was in Kingston, most of the stages were within 1-2 hours driving distance from the hotel.

It was time for a change, we will still try and get the Pro RWD car to the track this year if we can get it finished, but Rally is truely a fantastic way to test and R&D new parts... not to mention a lot of fun.

We are looking forward to the RA 2007 season for sure...

After looking at all the pics, I was relatively sure of this. I recognized the hotel / club in one of the pics. :) I'll aim to go in 2007, it'll give me a good excuse to get back to the island. :D

Very nice!

We will have to plan a NASIOC / EVO M trip... we may just have to stay in different hotels :) HAHA

You should check out Port Antonio, if you've never been there. I like the area in and around Portland.

Personaly, I love the hills (mountains). Mavis Bank FTW!!!

This was my favorite picture I took at RJ 06, right afterwards I got pelted with a lot of small rocks... luckily, I turned my back quickly!

well, it's time for cpd racing to go there. can't let acp have all the fun, cus that's definitely the best vacation for a rally enthusiast i can think of.

Keep coming guys.
There was word that Tommi Mackinnen was suppoesed to be there as a special guest driver but some time conflicts and 9-11 got in the way (some even said another WRC focus was to appear from the UK but apparently crashed at RGB). RJ is a always fun and entertaining with the Bajans and Jamaicans going at it and the overseas competitors getting in there licks :)

Hey are you going to fuss at a 400K WRC Focus that jumps the start? If it did indeed jump the start? Remember 90% of racing in Jamaica is on a privateer basis and 100% of competitors endure significant expense to compete and remain competitive.
