Window tint = Rice?

Hey guys! I had my windows tinted 35% all around a while back, I'm beginning to think it looks a little ricey and plus the job isn't too great. Do you think I should remove the tint from the front two windows and leave the back three tinted? Doesn't the Sti come with the back three tinted 15%? Thanks! :)

Nah, tinting has some practical purposes as well. It'll keep your car cooler and it also makes it harder for people to see in, thus protecting your valuables. Shiny/colored/design-ridden tint is a bit ricey, but that's just an opinion. I'd say if the tint was applied poorly, do it over agian. But not because it's ricey, but because your car deserves better.

What about the platinum mirror finish tints... Kinda nice in pictures, but in person I think it looks kinda tacky.

Good tint is not rice... The key word is "good". I have 20% all the way around and think that just the back 3 windows tinted looks wack. I want to go even darker, but I'm short on funds.

That titanium tint, the real stuff, not the super-silver crap people put on hondas... is awesome. I'm talking the stuff that is black with a hint of silver. Reflects something like 95% of UV rays... keep your car nice and cool.
Wi is supposed to be 0% windshield, 50% front windows, 35% rear windows... but I had a car before that was 18% all around and I never got pulled over, so I think I might tint my wrx fairly dark.
Always go to a good installer with a good warranty.

I think when you tint the windows it takes away the emphasis from the car, so you could say I'm not a big fan of it... but I can't hate on it.

I've often thought about getting window tint. But the mere thought of getting pulled over and hassled by The Man turns me off.
If I were to do it I'd have to be able to get the same tint all round. Which is illegal in these parts.

Tint = not rice unless it's some whacky ass tint job with funky colors or something. Even if you're at like 5% i wouldn't consider that rice... more like "ghetto" or "pimp-style" :p

If you leave your car out in the sun ever, I say get/leave the tint. It will help keep your rear seats from fading and help keep everything inside your car from burning up. Yeah, your car will still be really hot when climbing in after it's been sitting in 90-degree sunny weather with the windows up, but with some tint and a window-shade it's no where near as bad.
I personally think if something serves a useful purpose, it's not "rice". If you put some huge ass spoiler on your car and never take it over 80mph, or you put some Hot-Wheels graphics and neon lights all over, that's my opinion of what constitutes "rice". Tint? Not rice.

Tint has been around since the late 70's. First in spray form then in Film form. I owned a shop for about 4 years and we did local cars by word of mouth. no advertisement. There were many reasons to add tint.....from the UV angle to the "I'm tired of strangers following me home" thing.
If you park your car outside long enough the suns rays can fade your interior, primarily the rear seat backs and shelf. This doesn't happen over night...It takes a few years. If you are always in a parking garage you won't have to worry about this.

Otherwise Tint is not equal to RICE.

I have 30% in the front and 15% in the back.
You can't tell too much the difference from the outside and I have the 30% not to get bothered by the cops.
I have had it for over a year and not had a problem yet... well some idiot put a tiny scratch on my passenger side front....
Anyhow, I love it!

I just don't get it...
When I see a rice wrx (WRB with blue tint, blue led washer, some low quality dual tip exhaust, 0.1 inch drop, 18 inch chrome rims and some APR spiler) most of the time its own by a white guy...
And I just don't get it how that name RICE comming from...

And one was a Pinellas Park police officer - and they are not known for being nice during traffic stops.
When I moved to NJ I was told that the driver and passenger windows were not allowed to be tinted when I got my first inspection - not sure why I see so many tinted but... - so I just tint the rear three.
I bought my car in December - first mod radar detector, second mod was when I visited Florida was three window tint job. I only get my windows tinted in Florida - they can't afford to get a bad rep for peeling and bad materials. Oh and while I don't think dark shades of tint are rice - I also look for the shop with the most rice outside. Rice shops do do great tint.
