JDM Side Rain Visor

Since the WRX interior are really load in freeways, will installing the JDM Side Rain Visor help on the interior road noise?
| Kontradictions | 08-01-2005 03:59 PM |
doubt it, but i will let you know when i get mine on tomorrow!
| paperchasin | 08-01-2005 03:59 PM |
nope...they add more noise....
| subywrx | 08-01-2005 04:33 PM |
In that case that's out.
| MattDell | 08-01-2005 05:12 PM |
Most road noise in the WRX comes from the lack of enough sound deadening under the body. Personally, I'd rather deal with the noise than have extra weight.

Yes they do help....a little!
Mine do but you have to have the window open just a little bit and its not very loud @ all.
I wouldn't go as far as saying they add more noise. No more than the Damn mirror noise i can tell you that.

I installed mine a couple months ago during the massive rain downpour here in California. It's a great mod, but in my opinion, yes, it does seem more noisy than when I didn't have them on. It depends on who you ask I guess, but the general consensus from what I've read on the boards is that it does increase noise.

I would have thought the added noise comes from the frameless windows rather than the lack of sound deadening. Maybe it's both. Who knows?
To answer your question, suby, like the others have said, mine added more noise as well. But, hey, they look cool

Sorry about the hi-jack... Just curious, but do these visors use adhesives to stick to the outside of the car, or do they somehow fit underneath the rubber trim?
| 02R6 | 08-01-2005 10:30 PM |
The visors use both an adhesive strip and a number of clips (maybe five or something, they fit under the rubber trim).

I installed a set and can vouch that it either adds a bit more road noise or amplifies the existing noise.
As far as it being a rain visor? It's about the only one you can get for our frameless windows. It does not really work as well as those aftermarket versions for other cars. On a rainy day, If I open it more than a 1/4 inch I can still get wet.
It's somewhat stealthy and looks good.

Anyone stocks these in the US or do you have to order from Japan?

gruppe-s.com & cc-b.com (where I got mine) both can get them for you.

No instructions were provided with the visors I just received for my wagon. But I suppose they would have been in Japanese had they been.
Would someone be please be able to give me a few hints as to how the visors should be oriented and where the metal clips should be installed?
Many thanks. :)

Just pull down the rubber on the windows just a little bit...not all the way.
Then, the metal clips pinch the Plastic to the Frame ( i never used the 3M tape because its tough to line up straight) of the car door's and then theres one clip a tad bigger that screws into where you would remove one of the screws in the metal window run.
Easy.
The blk clips when turned the right & only real way, snap into the metal window track and provide a "J" shape that pinches the Visor (normally combined w/ the 3M tape...but not 100% needed). The Tape will leave a Nasty film if you ever remove them and sell them.

Thank you!! Hopefully I can finish from here. They supplied me with four different styles of clips.
Edit: After looking and fitting the clips to the visor, I figured out where they go. As for the pair that get screwed to the car... is the screw easily accessible? And there is a pair of really small clips that go at the very front end. But I can't figure out how they attach.
Darkness came quickly this evening. Hopefully tomorrow I can get them affixed.
Thanks again.

Success!! Thanks Mrfairlady! You're correct. It was easy.
I generally overthink things, and then find it a breeze when actually doing the deed.
Used the clips as the locators and structural holders. Then grabbed hold of the adhesive's plastic cover, pulled out gently on the visors and pulled the plastic up and away from the window "frame". Then firmly pushed the visor to the car to seal the gaps.
As for the usefulness of the visors, I do most of my driving on 55 mph roads (sometimes I even drive that slowly), but I like to drive with my window cracked to get fresh air and some circulation above what the vents can provide.
I drove around a bit today and found that wind noise from my cracked window is less with the visor than without. For my purposes, I believe the visors are going to be worth the purchase price.
They had better be because it took nearly four months to get them.
Thanks again. :D

No prob...its easy to make them Way more complicated w/ the way the japanese CLips work installing those things.
The ones for my Type-R were a tad harder (had to cut some seal off) than the STi but same concept...clips "click" into the Window track and pinch the visor.
Wind noise I thought was lower on my STi as well. Most peopel say its worse then before.

Definitely worse than before. Makes sense, too, as it's just more bulk sticking out into the flow of air.

The visors imported from Europe come with good pictorial OEM instructions, so I'd choose those over the JDM ones. Make sure your vendor doesn't skimp on the packing, as they are about 5 feet long and don't like to be crushed/bent in transit; my box came sandwiched between thin sheets of plywood, which worked great!

Is this added noise with the window up or down?
I would think it's noisier with window down, but quiter with window up.

i have them on my WRX because in japan it seems as if they come as a standard option. i think they look ugly and personally cant wait to get rid of them. they dont block the rain whatsoever and they are possibly one of the dumbest things to waste money on. im glad i didnt pay for them. to each his own though.

I bought them in 2003. I have to say it looks nice on certain colors. It complimented the looks of my WRB WRX.
As far as wind noise? Very minimal if any. I get more wind noise and whistle from the front corner of my window near the side mirror. (That drives me crazy, I just crank the music)
As far as keeping rain out? Because of the way it tapers around the top, it's only useful up to 1/4 inch to be completely rain free. 1/2 inch and your going to get hit with a few rain drops. +1/2 inch and your going to get mad and feel this doesn't work and try to justify why you bought it. :)
If you are a smoker with tinted windows and it's raining? Forget about it. Your cig will catch a few drops and you will possibly burn your tint.
It doesn't block the suns rays due to it being so thin unless your tall and your head hits the ceiling already.
I think most of us are all use to the original Vent Visors they made for other cars. the ones you see on pick-ups and just about every car. Now those work great! Too bad they don't make one for the frameless Subaru window.
I'll give it a 10 for looks, 4-5 for effectiveness, 3 for ease of application.
Just make sure you reinstall the rubber window seals correctly.
...........Just a users point of view.
